Map Discussion Thread

Kalti:
Nierr... do you have any update on that new continent and when it will be added to the map? I'd like to make the claim for Andalucia but no worries if it will take a little bit of time as I plan on going with the territorial RP for a while.
I'd like to know too! Just for curiosity.
Not that I'd use it.

It's an ongoing discussion hampered by my own inabilities to adequately make time for it. Things progress, but slowly. :P

Claims

The small white portion. I am assuming it is not claimed.

Sorry, just had to comment.

From what I understand, Ceretis is planning to expand into that land, though he hasn't done it yet. I think you should talk with him, so that this doesn't set off any flames if you gain this land. Then again, it may not, but it's better to not risk it.

Just my :2c: .

I just sent a PM to him on that topic. I would have started that RP sooner to expand but I've been traveling constantly these past few weeks.

Hello! I would like to claim a location on the map, and hereby submit an image for consideration by the Cartography team. I understand that you would prefer the border to be done in white, though I hope this will do.

Well, it looks like I'll have to find another new location for Rhuvanland.

(Unless he decides to move it due to Rhuvanland, but I doubt he will...)
Alright, I think I'll be defending my claim here since I filed it earlier, and the RP has long been in session. I'll be updating my claim with East and West Rhuvanland later today, like around 7:45 PM EST.

We are farming the question out to Bels due to conflicts of interest. But there are three points.

A.) This is your second claim and first claims generally take precident.

2.) You yourself asked us to halt the claim, you can't both say don't add it then backtrack and say you own it

III.) In reality your RP doesn't necessarily cement an area. The only thing shape, size and etc are even mentioned really is in the image in the OP.

Yes, but the area was chosen because of a previous post you made. You said Ryccia's island was too far away so I chose the way that was possibly the shortest length of sailing from Syrixia. It's as close as one can get. Also, I didn't say don't add it at all. I said wait to the next update, by which the RP should be near over or over, to add it.

Ok, it's my job to adjudicate this claim dispute. There is no formalized method for this, so I'm going to consider the following criteria;

1. Order that the claims where made in
2. Existing claims; size, location, number
3. Extent of claim

In general, I believe that the claim made first should receive first consideration. First come, first served has to be the general rule. In regards to existing claims, first time claims should receive consideration over secondary claims in general; however where someone wishes to extend their existing claim into adjacent territory this should be judged on the same basis as a first time claim. Thirdly, where there are two conflicting claims the smaller claim should generally be given consideration over the larger claim.

Finally, I reserve the right to take into consideration other factors according to my own whim when making my decision.

According to the three criteria I have established, this matter is tied;

1. Syrixia
2. Bluezone
3. Tied

Syrixia made his claim first; however, this is a secondary claim for him whilst Bluezone has made no previous claims. Their claims are also largely of the same size (going by Syrixia's latest version).

As such, I have chosen to rule in Syrixia's favor due to the fact that he made claimed the area first, and has established an IC basis for such a claim. Whilst this is not his first claim on the map, the fact that he and several other players have an ongoing roleplay centered around this area is signifigant.

Thank you, Belschaft. :D

And, as I said, Bluezone, there are two other areas to choose from that fit your history. Or, if you want, you could edit your nation's history like I did when my old islands were deleted!

It was my understanding that you define your own nation's geology. What's to prevent Bluezone from claiming a spot and saying it has mountains in it?

The physical map. Bluezone could claim mountains but they would be smaller than any of the ones on the physical map.

No, I will not be updating the physical map to add user defined mountain ranges. The map will be updated when the new continents are added at a point in the future - these will include new rivers, lakes and mountain ranges.

Nierr, I am mostly done with the Tir na Andalucia territorial expansion role play (just a few minor things to wrap it all up). I'd like to make the claim to have it added to the map however is part of a new continent the cartography team is discussing / working on adding. Do you (or Lore) have any time frame of when the new continents will be added?

I didn't have a time frame before but now I'd say before the end of May for new continents. There are a few details to work out and then I'll have a drafts before drawing in the final additions.

Thanks for your patience Kalti.

An update on this: Drafts have been passed around the map team and I've received some feedback. The process is annoyingly slow but is ongoing.

No eta for new landmasses because that would just be setting people up for disappointment.

Hm... I need to be more active.
But how? I find the roleplay guides to almost be overly making it hard to get started.

If you apply for Citizenship (which has almost no required responsibilities, just don't commit any criminal acts, which are easy to avoid), I'm sure you'll get a Mentor from Home Affairs that can teach you about RPing within a few days. Alternatively, contact Andrew, Bootsie, or Cascadia about Mentoring; I'm sure they'd be happy to set you up with a Mentor. If you already have a Mentor, ask them for assistance.

^Agreed. My inbox is always open...full, but open. :P

P.S. Sorry to the cartographers for intruding...I'll be leaving now.

:ADN:

You're not intruding and you contributed positively to the discussion. You're fine.

So I checked out the physical map, and I noticed that several island groups are missing.

As far as I can tell, the only big ones missing are Kalti and Cronaal, but there might be a few smaller ones.

Missing islands will probably be added to the physical map with the new landmasses.

Of course the eta on that is sometime before Ragnarok so they may be added before.

Should I indicate where some features like mountains are as the physical map shows land height?

literally just mountains and rivers.

Nierr:
I have no idea what you're asking...
I think he's asking if he should define the geography of his nation... where mountains and rivers are... or leave that decision to the cartography team.

If his nation runs through any features that are on the physical map (e.g. through one of the mountain ranges etc etc) then he should rp that as being part of his nation.

Everything else is up to him.

I was asking because my nation is a custom island.

Quite. Which isn't my problem. My problem is that it's wasted work if, as Syrixia says, Cronaal is going to be divided for "1 to 2 updates". So I'm going to get rid of the division in three weeks time? Why should I, therefore, add in the division?

I was thinking about that too, it seems like such a waste.

Because then it wouldn't be geographical canon in the region of The North Pacific.

What is on the map is the geographical canon in TNP. If it's not on the map, it's not canon.
