Map Discussion Thread

But... the map is already flat... it even started like that, so it isn't a projection at all. Sure, ICly it would be a projection, but OOCly, it's a perfect map. I don't understand the point of re-projecting it, especially when it moves my nation so far from where it actually is...

No, not really. The map isn't perfect, if the world was in the shape of a sphere (which it is) if you were to magically unfold the sphere into a flat piece of paper then you would get something different. Unless of course, the TNP world is flat and by the time you reach the edge you fall into the underworld.

You misunderstand. Let me state again: ICly, the world is a sphere, so, yes, the map is imperfect. OOCly, however, the map was created from scratch not on a sphere, but on a 2D surface.

Please don't explain maths to me like I'm an idiot. I know perfectly well that doubly curved surfaces can't be flattened. I could also live with less sarcasm.

New continents have been added.

Claims Map
Physical Map

A note about them: Unlike the main continents, where you're free to define your climate as you see fit, these new landmasses are largely much warmer, more desertous and less hospitable. Any colonies you try to set up will therefore be much smaller than on the main map and much more expensive for your nation to maintain. There isn't much of use that doesn't require serious groundwork to make viable.

At some point, yes. When? I have no idea. I have time coming up away from work so maybe.

Nierr... As my puppet nation of Tir na Andalucia has been role played out already on one of the new continents, what size constraint am I looking at? Between the size of Kalti and Callaici or smaller than Kalti? I'd rather clarify before making a claim and going back and forth on determining the correct size.

My new colony will probably be on one of the new continents.

EDIT: Yeah, no. I'll stick to my original location. However, I do think we should all look into colonies on the new continents as well, albeit smaller. I think this would be acceptable, even for people who already have colonies. Just for colonizing the new continents' sake.

The new continents aren't just for colonies and protectorates etc. They're also for new nations <3

-Just putting this on the discussion thread so I don't get hounded by the Purple-

Sytarenne, I thought you weren't allowed to post on the Map Claims Thread for, like, a month.

I swear it was for additional claims only. I'm not expanding, I'm just moving my nation because I never liked my claim and I only used it because there was no other better place

And BTW I still don't understand why I randomly had just been banned from colonizing. I'm guessing its for being a "lemon" by asking too much questions and land

In that case are you going to note this somehow for any new nations that arrive and will assume these areas to be lush garden paradises?

Sytarenne:

It wasn't. Besides which, if you can't post in the claims thread about your own claim, you can't post in the thread anyway, as talking about others' claims in that thread is not allowed. That is why this thread exists: for discussion on the map.

Syrixia did it to me ._.

Below: Thats the exact same excuse I used lol. But I'm guessing it will be accepted anyway. Should have relocated from The West Pacific to the North Pacific when the new continents came out! Darn D:

and Syrixia said it was way too much land when I tried claiming the same area, so I'm guessing its probably denied

That's why I waited until now, when there's more land and people can pick different land. I don't think anyone wants the land anymore when the new continents are out

Sytarenne:
By the way, how do you 'appeal?' (No offense but if I see a purple word again I will scream)
Since you obviously didn't read Nierr's post:
Nierr:
You may appeal this via the part two of the Arbitration and Dispute Resolution section of this post. Please do so in a new topic and uninvolved RP mods will address it. Further appeals to the Fiqh courts or to a special panel containing either the Minister for Entertainment or the Delegate will be open to you following that process.

I'm just saying if you unfolded a 3D sphere of the TNP Map then it would look something like that. Thats why the peirce quincuncial map was made, not because it was some nerdy guy who just wanted to make a cool-looking map projection.

I know, but how exactly. Is an appeal just putting a new topic and saying "i want to be able to have a map claim -inserts link-"

Post a new topic stating that it's an appeal. In it, explain what happened and why you believe the appeal should be granted.

Great, now because of the new colonies more then 5 nations are trying to mass-colonize all the continents.
If I was an RP-Mod I'd stop them because that's really not the point of having a map.

This makes no sense.

If all those nations made SEPARATE colonies that would be bad. You fail to mention it's all condensed into one joint-controlled area.

So 5 nations are planning to control one humongous continent all by itself when it's meant only for more space? Seems legit.

By the way -- Appeal is here

Compare the claim Syrixia showed in the OOC thread to the map including the new continents.

Sigh. It still makes zero sense to just start an organization to colonize new continents meant for an entirely different purpose 5 minutes after they were added.

Hmm. That's actually a good point. I don't actually have a solution to that thus far. :s

Sytarenne:
Can I get a reply on the appeal please?
As Nierr and I were both involved in giving you previous cautions, I have PMed Bootsie, the remaining RP mod, with a link to the appeal.

Seriously, be patient. The forum doesn't run at the speed of light, as we all have lives.
