Map Discussion Thread

Syrixia:
Delia Point will probably have a more Welsh culture.

@Sadakoyama: Or you could use Google translate for German. I do.
I don't like translators: "My hovercraft is full of eels" :)

Besides, it's a burden on the reader to have to run everything through another website, it breaks up the flow.

In RP terms, the Sadakhan would be speaking a polyglot mishmash of a dozen languages, like the "Cityspeak" of Bladerunner: http://bladerunner.wikia.com/wiki/Cityspeak

*I* don't speak those languages, so I just write in English. You can insert a strategic word or phrase for flavor, like I used the Cajun "Nanan" (godmother) in chapter 4.

Google Translate tends to be inaccurate for anything more than single words. Plus, you run the risk of the other people in the RP having no idea what you're saying, which can be an issue if it's an important detail that they should know OOCly. It's just my opinion though, no need to go spreading it around.
I agree; it is role play, not role work. :)

Yeah, you know, that doesn't actually work. You could have a creole, but you can't just mash all the words and grammars of every language and expect it to work.
English as we speak it now contains words from French, Russian, Spanish, Japanese, Latin, Greek, Chinese, and even Nuahtl (Aztec). And lots of others. It does work.

English is a Germanic language. Loanwords don't change a language drastically. The grammar and core vocabulary of English is still very much Germanic. English isn't just a mash of different languages, you know. It doesn't work.

Words, yes. Grammar, less so. Creoles and Pidgins tend to be derived from two main mother tongues, not several. They also aren't the most stable of linguistic situations, being rather prone to morphing.

Not that it's impossible, necessarily.

English grammar has changed a lot from its Germanic roots. And yes, it is very much prone to morphing.

My point is, it's not a mishmash of languages. Even creoles tend to be based grammatically on one mother tongue and semantically on the other.

At any rate, I could design for you a simple conlang if you'd like.

Thanks, but I'm comfortable in English. :)

In RP Sadakoyama is not an original culture with its own language.

Probably the wrong topic for this conversation though.

Can we make sure we keep this clear of everything except map discussion please?

-Just a post saying I found an alternative location for Delia Point incase Seb does claim the southern point-

-Just a footnote below the main part of the post saying that I can submit the claim on Sunday, along with a story-

TrueSebland, I'll ask the same question that got brought up last time... Show an RP of why you need islands that are so far away from your main claim. Your main claim is down by Andulus and you are claiming two islands by me (Kalti) which is almost the other side of the map.

I have no issue with them but the reason that Sadokoyama has little research stations around the map is that he role plays with them and waited a while after his main claim before asking for more land.

Edit: For example, if you want that military base and trading post by RPI and Kalti, do a role play with the two of us where we allow you to build on that land. True, neither of us own it but they fall in our sphere of influence and are very close to our main claims.

The trading post near your nation was supposed to make trading with you easier and the one near Ceretis would make trading with Ceretis much more easier aswell! The military base was created, because of Nebula's aggression and if another war started we would have the advantage!

Make that inb4cartographer. I am perfectly capable of moderating my own subforum without using purpletext.

Cut the meme spam shit.

I'd prefer you not to do it at all, or at least not in topics like these.

Decision on your additional claims will be made shortly.

Is that your land on the new continents? If so I've done it already, just need to upload really.

Guys, I'm sure it would be easier to check the next map update and point out things he missed rather than needle him to see whether he saw your claim (which he likely did, no matter the sea of purple).

Considering I posted in your topic about it, I think its safe to assume I did see it, though.

The same concerns I raised there still apply though, and I am not convinced by your explanation, as the mountain ranges would have to be large enough to be snow capped to the effect you talk about.

They are snow-capped. They're large mountains; Mt. Delia, the second largest mountain in Syrixia, is among them, for example.

20
billion?!
Was about to say... of the nation's on the map currently I think we are all in the low ballpark of a few million (maybe in the low hundreds of million for the larger nations).

I used 1% of my NS population, so ~54 million. That's 139% of California's population in 110% of the land area; but Academy City is very high density, being a virtual arcology.

Syrixia has around a population of 76 million, due to many moving there thanks to the global military reach of the Empire and the global economic reach of the Republic and Most Serene Republic. Even such a high population pales in comparison to the one GBM is proposing for her nation.

:tb3:

Plus, no offense but if I may add, she implies her nation's name is just Great Bights Mum. How is that a nation name? Perhaps Great Bight? As in, like, an island? A bight? There could be a few islands, with the main island being Mother Island, or colloquially, Mum Island. The capital could be there.

GBM is going on the map. I will find somewhere appropriate.

Calm the feck down.
