Heavy Metal Takeover in the Inner Cities
Cities and towns across Prydania continue to see the fruits of reconstruction following the end of the Civil War, but that doesn't mean peace has returned; many urban Prydanians are complaining about a lack of peace and quiet!
The heavy metal scene has exploded (figuratively) across Prydania's urban centres since the repeal of Syndicalist culture and curfew laws. Prydanians are now free to stay out as late they like, associate with whoever they like, and express themselves creatively however they like. And loud, aggressive rock is how urban Prydanian youths have taken to all three. While this is often celebrated as part of an outgrowth of a booming cultural renaissance following the end of the Civil War others see it as a troubling trend.
"It's hard to get a good night's sleep sometimes" Marianne Greve of Hadden commented.
"The pubs are all open to the early morning and sometimes the music just doesn't stop.
"Nothing in how we conduct business violates the law" Benny Thorup, manager of the pub and music club known as Saxi's in downtown Hadden, stated.
"If nearby residents think we're being too loud then they're free to call the police so they can make their own judgments.
Some, however, say it's not so simple.
"The police rarely ever agree to send anyone out" Central Hadden Community Association President Filip Hjorth stated.
"Police were very heavy handed under Syndicalism. There were curfews, and even if you didn't violate those playing the wrong music or even going to the wrong places in town would get you arrested. The government doesn't want to encourage that anymore. They want people to feel free again, so the police won't actually get involved unless a statute is being broken."
Mr. Hjorth says he understands, but says residents have a right to a peaceful night's sleep as well.
"The kids have the right to play what they want, but not so loud the peace is disturbed. I hope the government and find a balance here."
Hadden, Keris, and Beaconsviði are considering zoning laws to regulate where late night music can be played and the proximity to residential areas, though some clubs have vowed to oppose them on the grounds that they violate freedom of expression.
These potential laws are still in the early debating stage.
Anne Ulburg Elected Prime Minister of Kanada
Anti-Crown agitator Anne Ulburg of the Liberal Party was elected Prime Minister of Kanada today. Both her opponent, Lars Haaroldson, and Empress Grace offered their congratulations, though how Ulbrug plans to govern Kanada within the Malorian-Kanadian Empire remains to be seen.
"Of course we have a wonderful friendship with Maloria-Kanada" Prime Minister Magnus Brandt said when asked for comment on Ulburg's election.
"And my government is committed to cooperating with all of our allies, regardless of the governments they elect. Now with that said, Prime Minister Ulburg will have to prove she is committed to working constructively with us, and the rest of Kanada's allies, much less the Malorian half of the Empire. The PGU and Bergum Pact are built on principles of mutual respect and cooperation. I sincerely hope that the new Kanadian Prime Minister realizes this and proves to be more constructive in office than her influence was prior to her election."
The Kanadian Liberals and Prydanian Free Democrats, of which Prime Minister Brandt is a member of, have traditionally been seen as parallels of each other. The events of the Prydanian Civil War and Ms. Ulburg's ascension have taken the two parties on divergent roads as of late.
Absalonhöll was asked for a comment from His Majesty on Ulburg's election. Ms. Ulburg has been an outspoken critic of the Sevreyn family, a family His Majesty is set to marry into with his marriage to Empress Alycia of Norsia.
Absalonhöll responded by the releasing the statement "His Majesty congratulates the people of Kanada on a successful election and congratulates Ms. Ulburg on her victory."
