Map Conversation Thread

I agree, but you know. I get more money from any land/sea imports having to first pass through Eumenor, so I'm happy. I'll speak to him about RPing it. Thank you for understanding!!!

I have a question, does Eknorvia as a whole make sense geographically?
Y'know huge mountain ranges which the capability to hold a very large city and a giant lake right next to it?
And also Arid desert just across a small ocean in Azkay.

I would love to do an RP of the annexation of Osship after the conclusion of the story known as URGENT BULLETIN. It would, naturally, be set in the past.

Nierr, if I fail to do this, please duly remind me.

Anyways, I skimmed your previous posts, and there was a small bit in which you said you would re-edit Osship. Thanks a bunch.

(Side note: If Lord Lore responds to this I'm going to kill myself.)
You do not need to comment about Lord Lore constantly because he was opposed to the existance of Osship

It brought me to extreme lag whenever I clicked it. I can't find this "Anaron post".

Can you tell me what it says?

That's terrible! I was using the phrase jokingly. It appears he was telling someone else to do it, as if it was a diss. Which it is way more than.

How dare he say things like that?!

(P.S. Don't respond, let's end this convo here since it's technically threadjacking)

Nierr:
I'm not overhauling them, but I could certainly do a few of your requests. It's now on my list. Any preferences for moving New Amalfi?
Quite an... uh... interesting conversation I see everyone's been having. As a result, this was buried underneath a few pages' worth of discussion, but I'm glad that Nierr responded to my request before it all erupted. On the subject of that response, it seems to me that you are bringing about lots of change to the map. Considering that the map seems like it will look a lot different, and that the spot I initially was hoping Amalfi would go has been taken, I'd like to ask you what you would suggest. I have a few spots that I have in mind, but none of them are really popping out at me.

Also, I'd say that Syrixia's comment about killing himself could quite easily be taken as an insult. In fact, I'd be surprised if Lord Lore wasn't insulted. And, for that matter, I don't think that we should ever joke about either suicide nor murder.

Hi, Nierr

I see that you are fixing the map and going to provide layers, which is cool because I can use it then for GNPTA(ebay like supranational trade organization).

I ask that you please keep the Koneko, Kusari, and Nyan-Nyan Isles. They function as refueling stations for the GNPTA(much as RL Pacific Islands do), as well as strategic points of interest. (Nasania is a mix of Japan, Nepal, China, and Bhutan)

I also ask if you will consider the geography of Nasania when considering the new map. Along our northern border is the Nozan Sanchi Mountains and the South and McM borders have the combined Nikorayama-Oziya-McM Mountain Range as well.

Thanks,

Also may I ask what projection this map is? I presume it was an equirectangular map. Also does the TNP map comprise an entire planet (like some alternate history regions) or a section of a planet(like the old TNP map from several years ago)?

Nasania, that's...actually a cool thought. What if TNP was an alien planet? It certainly doesn't look like Earth. WHAT IF WE'RE ALL ALIENS?

No idea. He shared it in the GNPTA thread around a few days to a week ago. I had to share it! Ask him perhaps?

I just did some calculations and the current scale leaves the map quite small. Doing the math, the surface area of the map comes nowhere close to the size of the earth (510,072,000 Km2). Infract the entire surface area of the map using the current scale is a mere 67.14% of just the land area of earth. (5000x5000x4=100,000,000 Km2. The surface area of the land on earth is ~148,940,000 Km2)

Agreed. As I said, I always imagined TNP as, well, what it is- a large archipelago of islands in the NORTH PACIFIC. Though I imagine it to be smack in the middle of in the real world North Pacific, which personally would look really cool.

Well just two things. That is limiting SOO much and makes little sense. A.) That completely boxes out any nations that want to work outside of the earth cookie cutter model. And B.) that makes no sense if that is what you are going for cuz that makes the region most of the Pacific Ocean. The Pacific ocean is 165,250,000 Km2

It's a piece of land on an earth-like planet which does not comprise the entirety of the known world, but does comprise generally the entirety of the interactable world. Doesn't have to be OUR earth.

Our map is our map. The current scale works for us. The map works and that is all that matters. I trust the cartographers to do their job and understand its implications.

I am just trying to get an understanding of why and how things work and some reasoning behind it all. But All I seem to get are a string of excuses that make little sense and what boils down to "Becuase that is how it is". People can't ask for realism and etc but then have no rhyme or reason behind other things.

Nierr, could you please notify me or send a TG to me where your new claim is? I forgot where you posted it. Will put on map next update after the update I release today. Thanks.

Why are you trying to either continue to edit a warped and destroyed file or to edit a remake of the map that is not finished?

Because the officially appointed cartographer has not commented on it, and in her absence, I shall continue to update the current map.

So you are just randomly claiming all power over the map due to the absence of cartographer? Given your personal objection over a disagreement with your claim doesn't that seem a little... how do I say it, biased?

Syrixia:
2. I will be making no such change. The statement existed in the square you're referring to before I even started updating this map when Alunya went absent. As I am but an assistant and Alunya is the officially appointed cartographer, you will have to discuss this with her. As such, it will remain there until she comments on the subject.
That wasn't a request. That was me asserting my rights as the owner of the map, something I created and therefore have rights over. TNP's rights over the map extend only as far as I allow it to.

I am inclined to agree here. I have drawn maps for people before and licensing is pretty clear. Even without a stated license on the map Nierr owns the IP, and since TNP is not a legal entity as well it can not claim copyright over the map.

I actually didn't think of it that way. I'll be sure to edit the square once more in the next update.

Hello all.
Can I just ask, why are we continuing to edit the current map, when all edits will have to be transferred onto the new one anyway?
Also I am slightly worried about the amount of custom islands. Unless they are geologically justifiable (e.g. on a plate boundary) we need to think about whether they should be placed.

I second this.

I third this. After I add Kalti's new islands, that's the last I'm gonna do for a while. I won't be removing islands but I will be enacting a stricter island policy.

I believe that accepted islands should be edited by the cartographer to meet the geographical requirements of the map.

Agreed. Some are ridiculous and very unrealistic. I also think we need to think very carefully about who our cartographers actually are.
I would like to ask what is going on now with the new map, and when it will be replacing the current one. I would also suggest that all processing of claims stops at this point until we have transferred to the other map.
Thanks.

I have many days off this week (as opposed to last week when family events and work conspired to cause my work to slow to a crawl), so there will be movement on the map. I'll have to redraw the claims again because they are very different from what they are on the current map, however there are many nations on there who aren't active on this forum and I think that we should look into removing them. That would free up room for newer claims as a lot of coastline has gone and would enable us to properly see just who might be active enough to use the map.
