I'm reviving the currency thread popularized by Xentherida because Economics is fun.

Q&As
Q: What is the IBU?
A: The IBU, or International Banking Unit, is a measure (not a currency) that is used to measure the relative inflationary and deflationary rates of various international currencies. It is determined via an aggregate of the strongest currencies on Eras and, for the purposes of RP, is equal to one OOC US Dollar. (Props to Sil for coming up with the concept.)
Q: The most valuable currency is the best currency, right?
A: ...No. Currencies that are widely used are those that are the most stable. This means that it is relatively immune to changes in value. Currencies that are hyper-valuable (say, 0.25 currency units to 1 IBU) or hyper-inflated (10,000 currency units to 1 IBU) are generally not widely used because they are generally subject to large fluctuations in value.
Q: How valuable should my currency be?
A: Depends. If you are a State built primarily on natural resources (like oil), your currency will be very valuable and a small amount of it will be worth a single IBU. If you are a State with poor monetary control or a country with a generally unstable economic environment, your currency will be really devalued and have a much greater currency-to-IBU ratio. If you are a nation like the United States or EU, with incredibly good monetary policy, your currency will be close to the US in regards to how valuable your currency is. Please, folks, don't all be like the United States and have your currency accurately reflect your nation's economy.
