National animal

Nebula:
Hm...the old Nebulan animal is a dragon, but there's a referendum taking place on whether or not it should be replaced with tardigrades. The upside is that tardigrades are actually real. The downside is that not enough people actually know what they are.
Speaking as a RL voter and not as Kannex, I think that's a huge waste of money and paperwork.

As the gavel would drop on formalizing that resolution you'd hear a chorus of chain saws and screaming trees.

The farmed and domesticated Sydian Honeysheep is one of IndieGirl's primary food sources. These animals, however, are all-but-extinct in the wild, due to the brutal population decline during an 8-year famine which began in 2008. This widespread reduction in numbers is also exacerbated by the Sydian Honeysheep's docile, timid nature, characteristic long-winded bleat (which sounds eerily like parts of the second guitar solo from Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb, a trait which, in a prime example of Darwinian evolution, also made the animal far more easily tracked by predators,) and its noticeably ginger coloring. The Sydian Honeysheep is actually a very loyal companion, when domesticated and treated as an equal, but the breed does tend to exhibit a strong anti-authoritarian streak, and is not very good at spelling when cornered or anxious.

Paperwork? Nebula has mostly switched over to digital.

But have all your people, their libraries, all their schools, etc. everywhere that your national animal is mentioned? Most places though switching to electronic still use print media for a number of things.

The Imperial animal is the Jaguar... tho we dont usually use it to represent us tho it can, but the Golden tree of life is very sacred to us... and very important to us... we like our Sacred Tree of Life....very intensly... like ready to go to war over it. lel
