Acceptable Words List

[me] beats her head against a wall after reading every post to the thread.

My predecessor had fairly strict ideas on how voting should take place, and what can and cannot be accepted. This change in voting structure is meant to loosen the voting style (slightly) so that counts such as "Yes" like Eluvatar's in the last vote, and Grosseschnauzer's "Ja" vote in the Security Council are counted toward what the intended citizen wanted to vote for and assist the Speaker's Office in knowing what they mean. I do like some of the ideas, but I could not tell if some were joking or not, so I'll just give my list to see if you were or not.

Present (Abstain)
Meh (Abstain)
Nein (Nay)

Al Behd is little more than transposition from English. If you want to speak in a constructed language, at least pick a well developed one :P

In all seriousness though, I think "Yes," "For," and "Aye," should be treated as equivalent, "No," "Against," and "Nay," to each other, and "Present" can be treated as equivalent to "Abstain" in the Regional Assembly.

Thank you Elu for a serious response to my search for acceptable words and so the OP is updated to reflect the official acceptable words which will take effect at the next vote.

All of my suggestions were deadly serious. all of them.
Mine were as well. If German, which has 89 million native speakers, is allowed, then I insist that Arabic, which has 295 million native speakers and is the or an official language of 26 countries be permitted.

I would like to point out that my vote on the Superfluous Election Prevention Act has been counted as invalid in contradiction with the Acceptable Words List. I did not capitalize more than the first letter, nor did I put a full stop before my vote. I was also careful enough to avoid both capitalizing the first letter and using a full stop (in which case the Speaker would have rightly considered my vote to be invalid).

The acceptable words were not included on that vote, and hence, for not posting aye, nay, or abstain, your vote should be and is invalid. The OP of all votes under the AWL were changed to specifically state that you could you AWs.

Do not agree.

Why wouldn't they have been? My vote was cast after the AWL was published.

Because, if you read the OP of the vote, it states you can only vote aye, nay, or abstain. That was the last vote of the old OP before the AWL was put into place.

The fact that this thread was not a joke suggests that the world will be ending fairly soon. Goodbye common sense, hello Nanny State.

Not only that, it show that the whole system is so rigid that even the obvious can be excluded by an anal-retentive application of the rules.

Remember, the law is the servant of the people, not the other way around. We are slipping into the condition of existing only to follow the rules without regard as to any logical and rational flexibility.

The next thing, we'll have grammar police and a region-wide civil war over whether or not to use British or American Orthography.

But isn't this the list of acceptable words? :tb1:

He's right you know.

But I think a grammar police for the forum would have be a good idea.

Would I be able to plead insanity in the Fiqh if I murdered the official with their own broomstick?

Hm, I'd need to hire a team of expertly trained squirrels for that.

I have squirrels. I can have them trained and ready to remove that broomstick in no time.

I'd like to formally suggest "Yeah," "Yep," "Sure," "Yessir," "Of course," "Absolutely," "Alright," and "Alright, alright, alright" for aye, "Nah," "Nope," "Of course not," "Not a chance," "Absolutely not," and "Boo" for nay, and "Meh," "Eh," "Don't know," "I don't know," "Dunno," "I dunno," "I don't care," "I do not care," "Don't care," and "Frankly, I don't give a damn" for abstain.

My first act as Acting Speaker shall be to approve the words "Yeah," "Yep," "Sure," "Yessir," "Of course," "Absolutely," "Alright," and "Alright, alright, alright" for aye on the Acceptable Words List, "Nah," "Nope," "Of course not," "Not a chance," "Absolutely not," and "Boo" for nay on the Acceptable Words List, and "Meh," "Eh," "Don't know," "I don't know," "Dunno," "I dunno," "I don't care," "I do not care," "Don't care," and "Frankly, I don't give a damn" for abstain on the Acceptable Words List.

EDIT: I've also added "Aw, yeah," "Damn straight," and "Heck yeah" for aye, and "Heck no" for nay.

The use of this acceptable words list will be discontinued for all RA votes after this post; I will instead be simply accepting single functional equivalents of "aye," "nay," and "abstain." The vote OP template shall be amended accordingly.

Cascadia:
Does this mean I have to update my votes, or will they be acceptable until the next vote?
All votes cast with any word on the Acceptable Words List is valid on any ongoing RA votes. So, no, you don't have to change your votes. :)
