Guess the country

Without looking it up, I have a feeling it may be Ghana. I'm pretty sure Ghana was the first British african colony to successfully (and peacefully) gain independence anyway.

Not Ghana, it's around the corner, though.

Uhm, yes, sorry for perhaps not being clear enough.

I was talking of a multiparty, fair, open election to change the head of state peacefully in Africa AFTER decolonisation...

Btw, the country changed names in 1975.

Benin. Best country ever made. Hold your praise.

My country, and yes, I do claim it, is sometimes described as the "Land of Fire".

You may now begin guessing in vain, you pitiful possessors of pedestrian perspicacity.

No no, I was serious!

Fedele was right, Benin is correct...

Fedele, I was referring to the first thing I found while searching "Land of Fire": a japanese manga!

Tierra del Fuego? Well, not so much "sometimes", as "in Spanish".

Iceland, incidentally, is the "Land of Fire and Ice."

Hah.

Azerbaijan. So named for cracks in the earth with natural gas pouring out, resulting in weird fires.

Is it Greece? I know they had some controversy over government officials discriminating people Who weren't registered as Greek Orthodox.

Thank God it wasn't Greece. As a Greek I would have been worried! :)

I'll say: Indonesia. But only because I know they have their religion noted on their ID cards.
