Name The Currency

A material world. Isn't that what this is? If it is, then consider the currency we now have before us (all).

What should that currency be called? I suggest "NP"s, standing for "Nectar Points" (the British amongst us will most likely know what I'm going on about).

IMO "Norpacs" sounds like a military defence alliance. ("The US is proud of its leading role in N.O.R.P.A.C.S.")

Since this is a virtual currency, I like the term "norts".

I myself would favor "borrowing" (stealing) currency names from great civilizations of the past...

e.g. dinari

But that's just me.

How about the drachma? If we're going for historical names. Or something less Greek and more Roman: the denarius.

Let's see...what else have I got...other cool real currency names:

tolar
riel
dobra....

Nah, we need an original. Maybe...the flem, or flemming ( 'alf a flemming, and eight for the fruitbat), or t'norp, or...or....I got nothing. I'll ring in on this later after it's not so much...morning...anymore. :pinch:

How about pre-decimal British currency?

4 farthings = one penny
2 pennies = one half-groat
3 pennies = one thruppence
4 pennies = one groat
6 pennies = sixpence
12 pennies = one shilling
18 pennies = one shilling and six pennies = one helm
24 pennies = 2 shillings = one florin
30 pennies = 2 shillings and six pennies = one half crown
60 pennies= 5 shillings = one crown
120 pennies = 10 shillings = Half a Sovereign
240 Pennies = 20 shillings = one pound
252 pennies = 21 shillings = one guinea

Simplicity itself.

Hey don't knock the overly complicated pre-decimal system, it won us the war. Why else didn't the Germans invade? They're so efficient.

Vorsprung durch techno techno techno techno!

Beforw I waded through all of those suggestions, the thought had occurred to me to name the currency after Magicality in some way.

Yes, I know the Capital city is already named for them....so what? It doesn't mean we can't use the name as the basis for the currency/

:agree:

I like that idea :eyeroll:

I resist the urge to smack you only because this information is helpful in reading earlier British literature.

*Hersfold says "Screw that" and smacks Flem anyway. :fish:

And personally, I think Schnauzer's idea is the best so far in this entire topic. And it's the only one so far to get more than two votes.

The "Rouge"? Eh... kinda has bad connotations, and people might think we're dealing in lipstick if someone spells it wrong.

^ As far as I remember the currency is just 'credit'.

I looked for relevant things for the actual North Pacific and found:

North Pacific Gyre

In short: "The North Pacific Gyre (also known as the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre) is a swirling vortex of ocean currents comprising most of the northern Pacific Ocean."

Gyre is a surprisingly fun word, and should be used somewhere.

I like gyre, I think it's cool. We should use it somewhere if not as the currency.

Be sure to remember that 1 old Penny = 1 1/2 New Pence!

(I'm showing my age)

I say we name the new currency a "Tuppeny Standup" :P

How about this?

1 centile=.01 rolan
10 centile=1 curt=.1 rolan
100 centile=10 curts=1 rolan
10 rolans=1 decirolan
100 rolans=1 dekorolan
1000 rolans=1 kilorolan

Don't mind if a foreigner has a suggestion do you?

10 nàz = 1 gyr
100 nàz = 10 gyr = 1 magi

Currency Symbols
(?) or (n) for the nàz
(?) or (gy) for the gyr
(?) or (M) for the magi

I like gyre, I think it's cool. We should use it somewhere if not as the currency

so, keeping the credits from Jennifer Government, we could have:

100 credits = one Gyre
10 Gyres = One Gimble (1000 Credits)
1000 Gimbles = One Wabe (1,000,000 credits)

or...

I say we name the new currency a "Tuppeny Standup"

as in,.....

2 credits = 1 tuppeny standup
5 tuppeny standups = 1 STD.

The Gyre every time!

If only because the idea of naming our currency on a swirling votrex with rubbish at its heart is too beautiful to resist.
