General Assembly Resolution #233 “Ban Profits on Workers' Deaths” (Category: Social Justice; Strength: Mild) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.
The General Assembly,
Acknowledging the importance of creating fair conditions for insurance between the employer and the employee;
Yet worried that GA Resolution 233 ‘Ban Profits on Worker’s Deaths’ fails to provide these laudable conditions;
Rejecting the premise that life insurance on key employees constitutes a "profit", rather than a necessity to allow the company to continue operating while it deals with the loss of that employee;
Therefore affirming that there exist legitimate reasons for corporations to take out life insurance policies on employees for which they are the sole beneficiary;
Confused by the requirement in Clause 2 that the employee choose half or more of the beneficiaries on any life insurance in their name, even if the insurance is entirely paid for by their employer and therefore does not in any way affect the employee or their estate;
Adding that this mandate effectively requires employers to pay for double the value of the life insurance for which they are the beneficiary, making any such purchase impractical even with the consent of the employee;
Concerned that requiring an employee to exclude their employer as a beneficiary for at least half the benefits of their life-insurance policy unjustly affects those involved in small family businesses, such as cases where an individual's employer is a family member who that individual legitimately wishes to receive their inheritance,
Asserting that each member state has the right to interpret whether international corporations “act as a force for good,” rather than have such a political premise defined by the General Assembly; and
Trusting that life insurance policies can be adequately legislated by individual member nations in the absence of the target;
Hereby repeals "Ban Profits on Workers' Deaths."
