AD 1163: Establishment of Yedingham Priory in England. It was a Benedictine priory in North Yorkshire, England dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was home to Benedictine nuns from 1163 to 1539.
AD 1165: Nobuhito became Emperor Rokujō of Japan at the age of less than one (8-month-old), making him the youngest emperor to ascend the throne in Japan's history. Konoe Motozane became his regent at the age of 22.
AD 1166: Summer – Henry II of England invades and conquers Brittany to punish the local Breton barons. He grants the territory to his 7-year-old son Geoffrey. Henry II enacts the Assize of Clarendon, reforming English law, influential in the development of jury trial in common law countries worldwide.
AD 1167: King of England Henry II prohibited English students from attending the University of Paris. Most of them came back to England and helped the development of the University of Oxford.
AD 1168: April 9 – Emperor Rokujō of Japan is deposed by his grandfather, retired-Emperor Go-Shirakawa, after an 8-month reign. He is succeeded by his 6-year-old uncle, Takakura, as the 80th emperor.
AD 1171: October 17 - King Henry II invades Ireland and lands with a large army of at least 500 mounted knights, and 4,000 men and archers at Waterford. Henry commandeers merchant ships as part of his invasion. He claims the ports of Dublin, Waterford, and Wexford, and promises the Irish chieftains protection if they will acknowledge him as their overlord. Henry is recognized as "Lord of Ireland", traders are invited to Dublin where an English colony is set up.
AD 1172: Summer – Emir Nur al-Din begins a two year war against the Danishmendids. He creates a buffer zone between the Syrian realm and Egypt. Meanwhile, he releases Count Raymond of Tripoli for the sum of 80,000 dinars.
