AD 1163: Establishment of Yedingham Priory in England. It was a Benedictine priory in North Yorkshire, England dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was home to Benedictine nuns from 1163 to 1539.

AD 1164: A commercial treaty grants access to Almohad-dominated ports to merchants from several European powers, including Marseille and Savona.

AD 1165: Nobuhito became Emperor Rokujō of Japan at the age of less than one (8-month-old), making him the youngest emperor to ascend the throne in Japan's history. Konoe Motozane became his regent at the age of 22.

AD 1166: Summer – Henry II of England invades and conquers Brittany to punish the local Breton barons. He grants the territory to his 7-year-old son Geoffrey. Henry II enacts the Assize of Clarendon, reforming English law, influential in the development of jury trial in common law countries worldwide.
