INS’s estimate of 410,000 excess deaths due to ‘austerity’ looks excessive.

Such estimates are typical of wars, pandemics, and famines. If the economic collapse was really that hard, I don’t expect Esthursia to have recovered either economically or demographically in a decade.
It’s either the excess deaths due to ‘austerity’ and ‘recession’ weren’t really that bad and it’s an exaggerated count; or that Esthursia’s GDP per capita isn’t 53,000 IBU.

As an epidemiologist, the study likely makes incorrect assumptions and draws unreasonable/overreaching conclusions.
1. The study assumes that mortality rate will decrease linearly over time. However, it is known that as the population ages, mortality rates with either stabilise or increase. This overestimates the excess deaths.
2. The basic correlation =/= causation. Even if the excess deaths of that magnitude did happen, pinning everything on ‘austerity’ is irresponsible and does not acknowledge that there are multiple determinants to health, not just one’s economic or political bias.

An economic downturn that severe that caused that much excess deaths should reflect in the GDP that it’s impossible that Esthursia’s current GDP per capita is 53,000 IBU. From the direct decrease in the GDP because of the recession, to the opportunity cost of malnutrition, lack of education, etc… the effect should be felt for decades.

If you look at Saintonge, the effects of the 2019 outsourcing fiasco in the Coalition departments are still being felt. The current President of the Simbruins @Cédric_Majurel even said that the adverse health effects of the Coalition’s experiment will take years to undo.

Does anybody really believe economic data out of Esthursia? Multiple countries have already said they don’t trust Esthursian economic data. Even our own IRSÉE doesn’t believe them.

Neither am I convinced that their economic system will be able to generate that much wealth, 53K IBU GDP/capita, without significant trade connections with other countries. As we have seen with other far-left socialist countries, economic data tend to be fudged to make it appear that the country is doing well.

I mean, there could be a famine in Esthursia right now and they’re just inventing data to cover it up.
