The Kingdom of Arrandal

Three years ago in the Kingdom of Arrandal a devastating civil war came to an end, a which has torn the nation apart for fifty years on nearly endless conflict. Cities and countryside’s were left devastated as the royalists fought the seditious element. The last battle of the war was won when the rebel leader, Iskaya Bathory, was captured. A hollow victory as no reigning monarch sat upon the Emerald Throne. In that time the crown of Arrandal has changed hands nine times as central authority broke down. The last king to hold the throne was Aeric II, who died at the Battle of the Three Bridges, leaving only a daughter of ten years old to take up the authority.

Now, at the age of fourteen, Agatha Valtaren, has been deemed old enough to rule in her own right. The regent, Gaelan Marishkov II Lord Paramount of Estenmark, has prepared a grand coronation for the Queen and has invited the leaders and dignitaries of the world to attend. This will be the first time that foreigners will be allowed into the inner regions of Arrandal for over five decades.

The city of Bravondy after extensive reconstruction has once again been taken up as the capital of Arrandal and the coronation will be held in the restored Sepulcher of Anastasias. Those wishing to attend will have a chance to meet with the queen following the coronation at a special reception to be held at the royal palace.

Those wishing to attend must fill out this form to allow the Arrandalian government the time to prepare accomadations.

The queen of Arrandal looks forward to all those attending the coronation, and are happy to see so many nations extending their arms in friendship. We will endeavor to meet all requests. To those wishing to bring their swords as part of their ceremonial dress this is not only permitted but encouraged.

Some nations have expressed their concerns with security and we wish to help alleviate those worries. Nearly two thousand guards provided by the Azure Dawn, the finest standing force in the nation, have the privilege of guarding the Sepulcher of Anastasias and the the surrounding city will be patrolled by the Arrandalian armed forces and Bravondy police.

To the President of SAA Canada, we regret that the Sepulcher is not equipped with air conditioning. The building is over 700 years old and has not been renovated for some time. But you will be pleased to know the September air in Bravondy is quite brisk. We hope this will not stop you from attending.

To the representatives of Techislovakia we will gladly permit a camera crew (this will be the first time a coronation will be recorded), as long as our own officials may inspect your equipment before setting up. Is this acceptable?

The city of Bravondy had not been this alive in over half a century. The city had seen its fair share of fighting during the war, but the last three years had gone a long way in restoring its magnificence. The scars of war could still be seen in the number of buildings and landmarks being rebuilt, the uninhabited areas on the southside of the city, and the sheer amount of damage to the old city bridge. Yet the people were hanging up streamers and flying the Arrandalian flag. An air of festivity was about. Markets were packed with wares, businesses were opened and selling goods, the roads to the Verdantlands were now filled with citizens coming to witness the coronation. Vehicles laden with produce and building materials passed in and out of the city, and while there was still a large military presence and frequent patrols, people had began to feel that the fighting really was over.

All eyes looked to the great edifice of the Sepulcher of Anastasias, the gothic construction towering over the city. For here was where the coronation would be held. The church was the religious heart of the kingdom, where the greatest kings of the realm had been coronated and anointed with the holy oils. The last seven kings had not, as the city had changed hands and the fears of attacks had driven them to be anointed in safer locales in the south. Those who might be leery of a fourteen year old queen could feel better that her coronation was in line with tradition and her ascension was legitimate. Arrandal would have a monarch again.

And the world would know that the fighting was over and that peace had returned to the land. The airport was to reopen within the week and soon foreign rulers and despots, dignitaries and ambassadors would be arriving to view the spectacle, to look upon the girl who would be made a queen, and to hopefully see the kingdom's strength and know that here was a nation that would make a good friend and strong ally.

Feeling the deceleration from Mach 1 Sebt watched Andrea carefully as she gripped the armrests of her chair, whilst he usually preferred to take the Hyperion as his mode of transport he felt the Wolves flagship, arguably one of the most distinctive and deadly vessels on Eras, would be a little overwhelming when introducing himself to such a young ruler but he was a pilot, to him flying the speed of sound was a daily occurrence before becoming Khan "Are you feeling any better?" he asked, knowing his wife wasn't as comfortable in the skies as he was, she shot him a dirty look "If the divines had meant for us to fly they'd have given us air tickets..." replying with the same line her grandmother always used. Sebt placed a hand on hers, squeezing it reassuringly as she cursed in her native Antillan, the light was short, even if Andrea didn't particular enjoy the speed they travelled at and they would be at Arrandal soon enough. He smiled, reaching to his side to pour her a few shots of one of the weaker meads Wolfsea was famous for, not enough to impair her but enough to take the edge off, she accepted the glass and took a mouthful, already starting to feel better "I needed that..." she sighed, squeezing his hand in return.

As Raven-1 received permission to land the large delta-winged aircraft descended, taxiing elegantly toward the pre-arranged reception area. The aircraft came to a stop and the underside door opened, allowing for the staircase to descend, first the Imperial Guardsmen emerged, taking up their positions before Sebt set foot on the tarmac, helping Andrea down the last step before the party made their way towards the reception.

(The capital is centrally located and though near a river not large enough to accommodate a ship. You can arrive at the coastal city of Mysthaven and then travel by train to the capital.)

Duke Niklaus was rather excited and honoured, the first meeting between someone from Seitch and the outside world in as long as anyone could remember, the Theocratic leaders of his nation, the Bene Gesserit, determined it was time to stop fearing the outside world, and being the Duke considered the most pure blooded he had been selected. He nervously fidgetted with the box that sat between himself and his wife Duchess Agatha. "Leave it alone Nick" she snapped as he fidgetted with the silver handle for the millionth time.

"Sorry" he said sheepishly as she placed a reassuring hand on his.

"We're here Sir" the female driver informed them, she was a member of the Bene Gesserit too, or at least its military arm, the Truthsayers, she'd been attached to Duke Niklaus as his security, and more importantly the eyes and ears of the Reverened Mother who was the real power in Seitch.

"Thank you Clara" The Duke said as he checked his tie was straight and fiddled once more with the handle, earning himself a playful smack on the wrist from Agatha. She kissed his cheek and gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. "Have I told you that you look beautiful?" he said to his wife as they exited the car.

"Once or twice" she said as she linked arms with him, the polished wood and silver box held in her husbands hand.

"Hello" the Duke said, "We're here from Seitch, I'm Duke Niklaus, this is my wife Duchess Agatha, we wonder if it would be conveniant to present our gift to the new Queen?" he asked as they arrived at the venue.

The coast of Arrandel seems to peek over the horizen. The general and the 170 crew of the destroyer are working furiously. They do not bring their guard down as SAA Canada is still at war. They begin to raise the flag of SAA Canada over the ship. The shore is still about 20 minutes away when the general is awoken. Ugg... I hate timezones... The general thinks. He woke at what would be 5:30 in SAA Canada. He looks over the map of Arrandel and finds Mysthaven. "Ok, we have rented a part of the dock for 2 weeks. Plenty of time for you to all tour the capitol when we get there. Your hotel room keys will all be given to you. Next sunday at 7:00 A.M. sharp, you better all be here or I'm leaving you in Arrandel." The general says to his sailors. Suddenly one collapses onto the deck. "Dammit! Someone get this guy to the ship doctor!" The general exclaims. The sailor will suvive, but how SAA Canadians handle heat is wierd. Their climate never ever exceeds 35 degrees celcius, and 97% of the population has ancestors that lived there over 350 years, so whenever they overheat, they can pass out unexpectedly. At least the air is crisp, like the Arranels said it would be. The man was probably from the far north, where it is a lot colder. "Ok men. Remember to be carefull. Every once and a while maybe go into a nearby shop and cool off. I want us to return back with 170 sailors." The general says. He takes a step off the boat, followed by his guards. Every 50 steps he has to stop and pour a little cold water over his head, but he is fine. He gets on the air conditioned train. Goodness! How am I going to make it through a corination without passing out. No... It will be fine The general says to himself.

A little later the general gets to his hotel room, and collapses from exhaustion, the air conditioning turned to 20.

"Your majesty."

Princess Luna awoke just as the sun was nearing the top of the sky. She had been on an EAF jet which was scheduled to bring her to Arrandal.

"Yes, Captain?" Luna asked as she sat up.

"We will be approaching the airport shortly" The officer responded.

"Thank you. I will make sure to be ready by then."

With that, the officer saluted and left the room.

The plane had landed at approximately 0900 hours, and Luna was now walking with her two guards through the capitol city of Arrandal. She took time to stop and admire many places she hadn't heard of, but she still made quick pace to her hotel.
In the hotel room, she went over the schedule to make sure she hadn't missed anything, and bid her guards goodnight. They would be sleeping in an adjacent room.

Deputy Prime Minister Julien Whobrey walks to the bridge of the Shuttle.
"Are we almost there yet?", says Julien looking outside.
"Yes, sir."
Julien nods and walks back to his seat. Next to his seat are the seats of the Royal Guards. The guards are fearless and was trained from the age of 13. The guards wear crimson red helmets with red robes.
"Sir we are here."
The shuttle lands on the landing strip and the door opens. The guards walk out then Julien.

The Arrandalian train, along with its newly attached royal carriages, neared ever-closer to Bravondy. Having barely spoken for most of the journey to Arrandal, the young prince Mero was snapped out of his daydreaming by the sound of a wooden box being placed before him on the table at which he sat. He moved his eyes away from the scenery that sped by, looking down at the lacquer box. On the face of it was his families crest, imprinted in gold, but with a new first name imprinted beneath it - his.

'What is that?' he asked. His royal assistant, Wyllam, cleared his throat and stood up straight.
'This is the Imperial Crown, your grace.'
Mero leaned over and gently lifted the latch and opened the box. In it sat a golden crown, adorned with jewels. It was the least grandiose of the royal jewels, having no fur adornment for comfort or being particularly large. It was intended for royal duties - small enough to not be a burden to carry on ones head but glittering enough to still capture the imagination of any die-hard royalist.

'This is my father's, where is mine?' Mero asked almost petulantly, closing the box and sitting back. Wyllam sighed quietly and sat opposite the prince, pulling the box back toward him.
'Your crown is at home, with the other family jewels. This is the Imperial Crown, it is to be worn by the ruler of our nation.'
'My father is the ruler of our nation.' Mero said, his eyes following the scenery outside. Wyllam had been through this song and dance before with the newly orphaned and newly ascended Prince.
'Your father is no longer with us, your grace' he paused, hoping that would somehow soften the blow 'and as the remaining member of our family, the crown is now yours to wear. I will grant that you have yet to have your coronation, but that is neither here nor there.'
A whistle blew at the front of the train that alerted the pair that they were soon going to arrive in Bravondy. 'The new Queen is expecting you. We shall arrive shortly, I think it is best if you adorn yourself quickly so that we are not late. Please.'

Mero sighed and stood up, taking the crown from the box and moving to the standing mirror in the far corner. He placed the crown upon his head and looked at himself for a long while - dressed in formal garments with a shining crown on his head, one could be tricked into believing he was a King and not a frightened boy-Prince heading out on his first royal duty. The train pulled into the station and his companions began to file out, carrying with them his belongings. He looked at himself one more time and began to notice the dullness he often saw in his father's eyes once he became king. The Imperial Crown may not have been heavy, but the burden of it was.

He stepped out to Bravondy and immediately into a carriage that had been sent to collect him. A member of the Queen's staff greeted him politely as he helped him into the carriage.
'Welcome to Arrandal, your grace."

We look forward to having Prince Salman of the Syrixian Empire attend the coronation of Queen Agatha. Let our two nations enjoy peace and prosperity.

The arrival of all the dignitaries was an exciting event for those who had been chosen to be part of the greeting party. Due to the war few outsiders had come to Arrandal and this was a chance to learn of the rest of the world and its people. The head of the welcoming committee was Peter Artois, the chancellor to the queen. He had served in his role for the entirety of her regency.

The first to arrive was the Khan of Wolfsea and his wife. The chancellor greeted them first in Arrandalian and then in Mercanti, affording him all the respect he and his wife were due. At the end of the greeting a band played the national anthem of Wolfsea, and then two children of the royal court presented the couple with cloaks of purple, gold, and silver with the arms of Wolfsea embroidered on them.

Afterwards a carriage drawn by two white stallions was drawn up and then transported the Khan and his wife into the city to the lodging that had been provided for them at Walconstalf Manor, the personal home of the Lord Paramount of Ritterhold. The manor had all the finest amenities and luxuries. It was a large and sprawling estate, with multiple wings and nearly seven hundred rooms, each with their own lounge and kitchen if needed. A dozen servants were provided for each guest to attend to the every need of the visiting dignitaries.

Next to arrive was Duke Niklaus of Seitch and his wife, the Duchess Agatha. They likewise were greeted, first in Arrandalian then in Mercanti, followed by their national anthem being played and then being presented with cloaks with the arms of Seitch embroidered on them.

When the Duke asked if he could present his gift to the queen, Chancellor Artois answered, ‘The Queen is in seclusion until the coronation. It is tradition for the soon to be monarch to spend the preceding days in prayer and contemplation. The gift can be presented after the coronation at the banquet that will follow, or if you prefer giving it to her in a private meeting, I will arrange for that.’

Then the ruler of Seitch was transported by carriage into Bravondy and their rooms at Walconstalf Manor.

Next came the ruler of SAA Canada, Shawn Kenald arriving by train from the coast, who received the same greetings and gifts. Unlike the preceding dignitaries, he was transported to his rooms by car with the air conditioning at full. His rooms were likewise prepared by being cooled down.

Next was Princess Luna of the Equestrian Commonwealth. She was greeted and received her gift, and then she requested to tour the city and its sites. Chancellor Artois smiled and offered an escort to show her around and answer any questions of the city’s or kingdom’s history.

Then came the Deputy Prime Minister of Northern Scovia, Julien Whobrey. The greeting was extended, the national anthem played, and the gifts given. After which he and his entourage was transported to his rooms at Walconstalf Manor.

The last to arrive was Prince Mero of Aulita. He was greeted and granted the gift and the Chancellor made sure to express his condolences for the death of the Prince’s father. ‘It is always hard to lose both a parent and a leader. The queen asks that if there is anything she can give you to help in these trying times, to not hesitate to ask.’ The Chancellor said.

The Rose League delegation had landed in Arrandal and both Solveig and Seran were looking forward to the festivities and meeting the future Queen. Since this was both a diplomatic event and a royal event, both heads of state had opted to wear their military dress uniform befitting their rank in the Rose Armed Forces, in this case both held the rank of major. As the plane slowly taxied towards the pre-arranged reception area, Solveig and Seran were chatting...

Seran looked over at Solveig, "so Arrandal... I can't say we know much about the country, its people or its customs. It's been very walled off from the outside world for the most part."

"Well you can't really blame outsiders for being wary of Arrandal. They have been at war for nearly the past fifty or so years. Or so our intelligence community claims based on the quickly compiled history that they put together.", replied Solveig.

"That's true... I am glad though that the other Tribune's saw it fit to send me on this little trip as I'm the one in charge of Andalucian cultural affairs... At least this way I can give a more critical opinion on the nation's cultural customs and document them so the people back home have something new to read and learn about.", said Seran as she turned to look out the window.

Solveig started laughing, "and there you go... always excited and happy when you get to visit and meet people of a nation you haven't been to before. You sometimes remind me of a kid in a candy store... you see wonder and excitement all around you whenever you are visiting a foreign country that isn't Kalti."

Before Seran could rebuke Solveig's comment, one of the Kaltian guards let them know they had arrived at the reception area. Both rose, adjusted their uniforms and ceremonial swords and headed down the steps of the plane to greet the welcoming committee from Arrandal.

Sebt smiled as he got comfortable in the drawing room of Walconstalf Manor, it always struck him as a little funny how ostentatious people outside of Wolfsea could be. The Khanate Palace, admittedly due to being an ancient structure, had not been changed much beyond the amenities and his office overlooking Crescent Bay. He mused quietly to himself, Wolfsea had been an isolationist state for a century until a mere two years ago and, since then, had returned to its past eminence upon the world stage, still it would be impolite not to give the young queen some advice. He sipped at the brandy his host had served, it was strong-tasting but lacked a suitable kick for a Wolvesh but then the stronger brews of Wolvesh Mead were, somewhat disparagingly, regarded as "A mixture of honey, drain cleaner and rocket fuel" by a fair few critics across the region. Sebt heard somebody at the door, not sure whom was without.

Many months on, the mention of the death of his father - and by extension his mother - still caused the prince to stiffen up. A comforting tap at the small of his back from Wyllam reminded the eighteen year old of his whereabouts and he bowed respectfully to the Chancellor. 'Thank you for receiving us, Chancellor' Mero replied in Arrandalian, as previously rehearsed 'And many thanks to her majesty for her condolences. The honor of being invited for her majesty's coronation is more than enough. A short time away spent at Walconstalf will be very much enjoyed, my mother the former Queen spoke very highly of her younger summer visits in her youth.'

His attendants received the gifts on the prince's behalf and showed them to him before carrying them off ahead of him. The Prince waved politely and smiled as best he could at the crowd that had gathered, some waving small Aulitan flags, before climbing into the carriage with Wyllam to head for Walconstalf. Wyllam began to brief the prince, first on the presence of the former isolationist Wolfsea representatives and then of the Rose League, all of whom the nation of Aulita was at the very least on friendly terms with before the military rebellion unsuccessfully attempted to overthrow the monarchy and murdered his parents.
'That was quite the reception, very dignified' he commented to the prince.

'Yes,' he quietly agreed as he resumed his distant stare out the carriage window 'You wouldn't think our nations had been ravaged by war or military coups.'
