Blood and Gold (planning and OOC)

Xentherida:
Gonna write a post, and my main ship is the Vasa, if it were built properly. Heck, I even have a poster of that ship in my room, from when I visited Stockholm.

Quick edit, I need someone to be on bad terms with. At this point, a slightly crazy king is in charge (King Carl IV, who is the leader until the Despotoan Coup) and a weak prime minister who basically does what the king asks. In this case, it's ravage the ships of enemies, especially those with colonies, who exploit the wealth.

My first post will be the beginning of Gustav Bengt's (I'm putting a revamp of the Xentheridan language with more emphasis on Swedish) career in piracy, with his wealthy family giving over the Vasa for privateering/piracy for him to use and become the hero of Xentherida, etc.
You can get involved in the war in Nebula if you want, don't know who you'd want to support but I'll let you pick :)

I love the design of your pirate flag, Ceretis, but I have a feeling it's going to look awfully phallic from afar.

I'm going to reply soon, I was out drinking all of yesterday...

@Ceretis, which port are your character at?

I might not be able to post for a day or two, still having to sort out some IRL stuff (medical and having to deal with the DWP, won't go into details but it's stuff that needs sorting.)

The Rose League entered a golden age of peace and prosperity in the early 1700's. There wasn't piracy per say amongst Kalti, Callaici and Andalucia as there were privateers who protected the shipping lanes amongst the three nations from outside threats. Maybe I'll join in but for the time being I'm going to sit on the sidelines for this one.

... A navy?

Privateers stole things from people; I wouldn't hire them to protect shipping lanes. Harass them, maybe.

Probably should have phrased it better but in the 1700's, all three nations had a standing army alongside a naval force while the merchant organizations had their own merchant fleets (trade fleets). They were protected by private individuals / groups who's role was legitimized by the governments. Similar to how privateer / letter of marque worked but in a slightly different context / setting to fit with the fact that this is NationStates and a work of fiction.

Ceretis:
Got it, for some reason I had Despota history being earlier in my head. Updated. Did you post the Despota updates in the history thread?
Posted.

Depends. We'd most probably harass shipping lanes of either side, depending on what sort of ideology they have. What are the rebels fighting for, and the government trying to enforce? Xentherida was capitalist, democratic, etc.

I had in my head they're nearing the brotherhood's island near modern Kannex but aren't quite there yet.

I think the design of the flag would fade to more of a line when seen from afar rather than gaining a wang-tastic appearance. But even if it does look phallic from afar to some, though I don't think it will, isn't that demoralizing to the ships that are about to lose to the pirates? I mean really... if you can't escape being captured and who know what else by a bunch of guys flying a phallic flag.

It's mostly a power struggle, but the Lords are feudalistic, whereas the rebels' financial backers are free market merchants with hopes of reforming the system to suit their interests.

In that case, I'd most probably support the rebels. I would also like to post my pirates raiding the feudalist' ships, taking treasures. What sorts of treasure/booty would be on their ships?

Military supplies almost exclusively; guns, powder, ammunition, cannons, rations, troops, etc. Not much financial goods excepting perhaps diplomatic vessels.
