Proposal: New Flag and Coat of Arms

My sincerest apologies for the gravedig, but I'd like to, politely and without intention of offense, ask for an update on the status of the new graphics.

From what I can see, the theme appears to be done and is on the Test Forum. Even now we've used the old seal to issue government statements such as that of the statement on TSP's coup.

I'm not worried about those specific seals (EG: the Ministry seals) as I could find someone to make them or I could make them myself, but I would like to inquire where we are on implementing the new theme after these past few months.

With respect to forum skins, there are two different things you are talking about.

- The first is updating the current theme (TNP Aqua) to use the new Coat of Arms. This requires simply updating the following three images:

I was neither involved nor asked to get involved in this update, so I am not sure why I am brought up. But if someone can provide me with the original Aqua version of the above images (the ones that were not using any TNP insignia), I can edit them to use the new CoA, likely during this coming weekend.

- The second is creating an entirely new skin for the forum to use. Even though this effort started simultaneously with the CoA change campaign, it has nothing to do with it. It is about a comprehensive forum redesign.

This completely new skin is something that Lennart, mcm, and myself have been working on. It is visible on the testforum as "Theme3". It has progressed a lot, but it is far from ready. For instance, the current header is a placeholder, and the are many image and color inconsistencies in pages other than the index page.

This second effort is going to take time, for two simple reasons: first, making a fully new skin takes a lot of work; and second, I can only invest a small amount of time in NS. I believe I have been completely clear and transparent that my time is very limited, and a good chunk of what time I do have is taken away by the need to maintain much of the technical infrastructure TNP uses (and this thread only includes the public stuff).

Therefore, the new skin is going to take a long time before it is ready. If that doesn't work for you, then you will need to find someone else to work on the skin.

Regarding the seals and other insignia, I recently updated all images I have control over (dispatch headers and footers, WADP banners, Executive Staff banners). These have also been updated in all places that were using them, including dispatches, spreadsheets, scripts, and forum threads. Finally, The Northern Light has finally had its flag updated.

This leaves the various departmental seals. Unfortunately, I don't have control of those files, so I can't do the updates myself.

I've found all the seals except for the following, which I will need: (Or atleast I'll need their mottos)

You can wait for an actual reason for as long as you like. I don't believe there was one, other than it being a low priority thing since y'know, it's not like we've lost any other visual representations of our community or government. I'd advise reining in your impatience.

As it stands, the various seals will be updated automatically as soon as the files are on the server. The executive staff badges have been updated. The Icon for the forum has also been updated.

The theme may actually take longer. I don't actually know. (This being the new, custom dark blue theme on the test forum)
 
I haven't forgotten about the new thing, but it is not a first or even second order priority right now. Even though I greatly prefer it to TNP Aqua, as r3n said, it still needs considerable work before I intend to install it.

All seals have now been updated as well. You'll start seeing the new version in the various official documents.
 
I've noticed the masking badges below each person's profile picture still have the old seal on them.

Not whining or anything, just pointing it out.

I'm not sure I like the new seal with the old header - the old seal had some bright blues that harmonized with the blues behind it, but this one is much darker and doesn't seem to fit as well.

I might see what I can do to adjust the colors of the background image a bit to see if that helps at all - ideally enough to fit with the new seal, but not so much that the rest of the skin seems out of place.
 
Le gravedig again. Close if you want, but I'm just wondering; any updates on the progress of the theme? (The new one on the test forum that's, from what we've been told, a WIP)

Mcmasterdonia was/is the admin responsible for the theme. He has indicated that he'll attempt to spend some time on it when he has a chance to.
