OOC: RP Brainstorm Thread

I spontaneously came up with an idea; here's the setting.

Preparations for a nuclear test are in action, and an observation crew (including multiple crews of varying nationalities) are examining the bomb in preparation for detonation. Suddenly, a terrorist group kills the guards and takes the group, along with the armed bomb, hostage. They then threaten to detonate the nuke on a location if their demands are not met. After a brief standoff, the terrorist group members are eventually killed/captured in a fast-paced liberation by a special forces group.

There an be variations to the story, but this is the basic idea. Feel free to propose any changes or alterations to it.

If anyone's seen Strike Back, that's the sort of theme I'm going to go for, although it won't rely heavily on that. Evil, renegade group with a powerful weapon. A coalition of nations pools in their strike teams to kill the terrorists, free the hostages, and prevent a disaster. Again, alterations to the idea can be proposed, and are welcome.

I am good with that idea variation. Since the ship I'm using for observation is a Royal Confederation Forces ship, both Oiche na Ruin and the Guild (my nations special forces groups) can be called upon in a time of crisis to either the ship or to ships nearby.

Hm, I read it as nobody besides RP mods being allowed to post in the thread. Apologies.

Sorry, added a bit at the end to make it clearer. Feel free to post, just remain on-topic.

Are you thinking of taking your test threat in this direction, or a different one?

Sadakoyama could very easily have one of our Agents in the group; they are like the Operative from Serenity.

No, not this current test, although another test (obviously smaller) would be more likely. And I have an idea relating to this.

Even after the fall of Despotoa, there were rumours of those who still followed its ideologies. The occasional terrorist attack was committed; a bombing, the assassination of a high-ranking official, the taking of hostages. However, in recent years, the group has died down. Although evidence shows that this particular group - The Despotoan Disciples - may be planning an enormous attack.

The setting would probably be in the desert of the Silvia Peninsula Colony, which is a designated (small) nuclear testing ground for nukes with a yield in the kilotons.

Essentially, they would take control of the nuke and threaten to launch it at Blackwater City unless the King and Prime Minister both stepped down, and allowed to leader of the TDD to take charge in a totalitarian rule. However, secret planning between a coalition of nations lead to the eventual assault on the group of terrorists, and the subsequent shut down of the group. This can be done in the style of the Order of the Loyal take-down; a storming of the group's HQ in Aridia (the old capital of Despotoa).

However, for this to work, either your agents will need to die, or not be present. Either way, they could not hinder the plan, which would've taken months of planning. Sniping shots, and then a rush. Everyone present would be held hostage. However, your agents could make an attempt, and potentially overrun the terrorists, but then be overpowered when a squad of reinforcements arrives. It could be a dramatic point, when your agents take control.

But again, this is merely a spontaneous idea, which probably will be prone to alteration.

I'm comfortable with that scenario.

An RP where a nation begins an empire, partaking nations slowly get taken over and turn to their nation's colour on the TNP Map temporarily and then at some point, there's a catalyst that sparks a revolution..

No, it wouldn't be centered around you or Nebula, you've had your spotlight. Certainly not me... Maybe Kalti or Kannex.

Soon.

But it will have to take a while. I'm currently reading Behemoth by Franz L. Neumann. You may see authoritarianism arise in Pelhafor or Kannex in the future.

Nebula, I will let you play the Pelhaforan rebels only if you make posts as long as mine, and RP according to the general plan.

Definitely try to post more than usual.

I'm thinking of it. A successful campaign for independence would be grassroots, moderate, and conciliatory to both the Catholic majority and the Protestant minority. Can't be communist or socialist; at best they are social-democratic. There will also be extremists on both ends, committing acts of terrorism. Independence and revolution aren't coming to Pelhafor overnight. The actions of the radicals will push the loyalists into negotiating with the moderate nationalists. There might be some violent militia activity in the countryside, but nowhere near the level of the 1970s communist insurgency. The majority of violence will be in the cities, committed by rioters, militias, and terrorists. This is generally what will happen. Remember that the Pelhaforan Liberals (the loyalist governing party of Pelhafor) are still bound to honor the results of the recent independence referendum to some degree in future negotiations.

Hm, I think that's pretty much it. Surprise me.

Have you played the Battlefield 3 campaign? It's very similar!
