ARCHIVED: The Rhuvish War

Rebels retreated slowly, laying down heavy fire as they went. Air raids lacked the power to terrify, and any sound of jet engines above would be followed by a massive artillery barrage into the air.

As the Guslants were in Bürheim securing the area, Rhuvish soldiers secured the coasts, and the Syrixians pushed towards the capital district. The Alzenstadt Circle was finally broken by the rebels thanks to both attrition and death on the Syrixian side, and the rebels were now poised for an attack on Alzenstadt. Meanwhile, Syrixia began her trademark bombing runs on socialist positions across Rhuvanland. Meanwhile, in Dunorion, the rebels became surrounded by Syrixo-Rhuvish troops...

"Abandon Dunorion!"
A massive rebel retreat began. Rebels began pushing out of the city in a coordinated retreat.
Meanwhile, saboteurs remained in the city, along with explosive charges, ready to make the government victory pyrric.

Meanwhile, the rebels began to charge into Alzenstadt, with the Syrixians not far behind. Forcibg quickly through the outer city, the rebels took over most of the Alzenstadter suburbs, taking a few offices and shops here and there. The Syrixians, meanwhile, had pushed their way in a line through the Federal State to Alzenstadt, and were just outside the city.

The rebels set up a defensive line in preparation for the Syrixian attack. Meanwhile, tanks began to push deeper into the city from all sides. The Nebulan commanders never bothered with a pronged assault when an attack from all around would do.

Meanwhile, in Bürheim, the Guslant commanders met inside the Forward Operations Base that was just recently constructed. Inside, they were seated around an electronic map of the city. Alicia and Mikita were standing up, and Mikita was holding a GusNet tablet. "Ladies and gentlemen, after discussing with High Command, we've come up with a strategy we believe has no flaws. Nicknamed the Trident, General Akerman plans to force her way west toward the Rhuvish border. Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Delford will head south toward the shore. Finally, we will have General Scottsfield head north to try to regain lost land by the Allied powers," explained Mikita. Akerman stood up as she began dividing the commanders up into their respective groups. "Okay men, I want all of you in position in the next couple of hours, I do not want failure as an option," ordered Akerman as the commanders began to exit the Operations Base.

"Lieutenant Nowe, prepare my helicopter in case of an emergency retreat. I'd hate to start a losing streak and not have a way back to Pigletville. Alicia and Ayuda, make sure my strategy book and the classified Guslant war information makes it onto the helicopter as well. Lieutenant, your only standing orders are to guard this base and prepare for a retreat if that is necessary," ordered Akerman. Alicia looked to Nowe, who was wearing the lieutenant insignia. "Burns, come with me. We must begin mobilizing immediately," ordered Akerman one more time before she exited the base, followed by Alicia.

Meanwhile, in the Augustus Town harbor, the Guslant Gold prepared its departure for Rhuvanland, along with the other huge warships that were going to make their way around the Guslant strait. The doors to the ships began to close and the embarked on the journey around the strait.

Nebulan spy satellites spotted the Guslant mobilization, and the following message was sent:

"Do keep in mind that if you intend to enter the Faibuaizu, it's in your best interests to avoid fighting a Nebulan-backed group."

"We don't plan on declaring war on your nation anytime soon. Rhuvish sovereignty is all we care about, and these rebels and these rebels only are what we are concerned about. I will not allow the rebels to win this war, nor will I allow a declaration of war against Nebula," said Lieutenant Nowe.

The rebels continued to work their way through the streets of Alzenstadt, reaching the Bundesregierungspalast, the government palace of Rhuvanland, and surrounding it, as well as taking over more of the outer city and a few mid-city streets. However, in the south of Rhuvanland, the anti-socialist coalition was gaining ground. Each side now had around 50% of all Rhuvish land, and the Syrixians had just reached the city boundaries of Alzenstadt.

The tanks didn't hesitate. Clouds of smoke and dust soon surrounded the palace. Occasionally gunfire would ring out as an exposed Rhuvish soldier within the palace would try to take as many rebels out as possible, then be gunned down.
Meanwhile, snipers and rebels with RPGs began firing on the flanks of the Syrixian advance.

The Hiskjriaanii air strikes continued, this time concentrated with helping the Syrixians advance further into Alzenstadt. Gripens and Eurofighters danced around the steel towers and high rises and swooped down on the rebels below, then arcing nearly straight up to come in for another pass. Within minutes there was a channel open for the advancing Syrixians, and the planes once again headed north to repair.

(OOC: again, is this godmodding? I kind of feel like it is...)

Fighting was chaotic in the Federal State. Syrixian forces poured into Alzenstadt, plowing their way to the inner city and the Bundesregierungspalast, which was surrounded by rebel forces. The Federal Guard was trapped inside, but ready to defend the building to the last. However, unless the Syrixians broke the defensive circle and reached the building, the Guard could not successfully defend it. Meanwhile, outside the Federal State, both the rebels and the anti-rebel coalition used pronged attacks to plow through the other's territory. Pro-rebel uprisings also occurred in the far southwest of Rhuvanland, further adding to rebel territory. However, while the rebels pronged their way through southwest Rhuvanland, reaching the coast west of Bürheim City, the anti-rebel coalition's pronged attack was carried out near the middle of Rhuvanland, cutting the rebel territory in half.

The rebels, desperate, began bribing pilots and subsidizing jetliners to get troops across the gap. The flight was dangerous, however, and detours over empty land were brought into use to minimize risk.

Meanwhile, the outer walls of the palace were reduced to rubble. While the main force struggled to keep back the Syrixians, the rebels began to storm the palace and the Rhuvish troops stuck inside.

Since the Bürheim amphibious invasion, the Kannexans had allowed the Guslants to take the larger role in securing the state. Kannexan involvement in Rhuvanland numbered about 40,000. A fourth of this number served on sea and in the air as part of the Rhuvanland Naval Task Force. The rest were divided evenly among the 1st Marine Division and the 5th Army Infantry Division.

The 1st Marine struck northern Bürheim in coordination with Guslant forces, cutting off what had been known as the Red Bürheim Corridor. Standard Marine tactics guided their movements. Ground-attack helicopters bombarded rebel positions in forests and burned-out cities as panzers rolled into the streets and blasted away communist opposition. Patrol boats raced up and down Bürheim rivers, establishing control of the basin.

Near Alzenstadt, the 5th Infantry saw heavy combat in the hills west of the capital city. Kannexan troops managed to establish a foothold in the northern bank of the river that cut through the city northeast to west. Large howitzers pointed at the hills and fired unceasingly like rolling thunder. Metal rounds struck unseen targets over the ridges, making smoke and fire. In a three-pronged attack the Kannexan mechanized infantry cut into rebel positions. Tanks and armored infantry carriers advanced. Bombers zoomed past and dark exploding smoke and fire erupted from rebel positions like blooming flowers. Helicopters were close by, pouring machine gun fire into rebel positions. Once the hilly towns west of Alzenstadt were captured, the flanks of the rebels would be threatened.

Rebels with machine guns and tanks, made by Nebula, retreated slowly and stubbornly. Every advance by the international coalition was hard-fought. North Cronaal had begun shipping more advanced weaponry in as well, getting aircraft across the border to the rebels. Nebula had also put Shei Ren under rebel administration, and missile strikes from there were becoming common. The war was escalating.

As the fighting continued in Alzenstadt, the international coalition gained land in Monamien and far eastern Rhuvanland. The Syrixians in Alzenstadt pushed towards the Palace again and again, finally reaching it after four bloody attacks. This, combined with the recent anti-rebel gains made the soldiers' morale skyrocket, however it was not to last. By the time they got inside the palace, they were in stunned awe. The walls were covered in blood, the bodies of the Guardsmen scattered across the floors. Rebels suddenly appeared out of every entrance one could think of. With the help of grenades, some were even literally coming out of the walls. As fighting continued, authorities in the Belfruger city of Kälenburg, de facto headquarters of the socialist rebellion, sent out this message:
A Proclamation:
comparrhuv.png

-A PROCLAMATION-

While the war, fighting for the sovereignty of the workers and all the people of Rhuvanland, has not given us as much land as it once did, we have, today, reached a landmark in our history. Fighting against the imperialistic forces of the "Federal Republic of Rhuvanland" and their international cronies, we have shown today that the people cannot be silenced! The people and their spirit are immortal!

Today, the Federal State has fallen into our hands! Today, the first step to a final victory is ours! However, now, at the starting line, we are raring to go. Today is the day the people's voices ring out into the skies and the workers cheer! The Red Star, shining above our movement and those who give their lives for it, has united us and will continue to mold us into the strongest force the world will ever see!

It is with this triumphant victory over Alzenstadt, the heart of our Motherland, that we proclaim the foundation of a new Rhuvanland, a better Rhuvanland; a Rhuvanland ripe with the golden fruit of equality for all and no interference from the imperialist, money-grubbing cults who dominate the rest of the world! The Socialist Federal Republic of Rhuvanland, the People's Rhuvanland, has been born!

The single communist lifeline to red Alzenstadt was along the Alzen River, which approached the Federal State from the northeast. The right wing of the 5th Infantry turned east from its northward assault and sunk its fangs into the Alzen River lifeline. The center and left forces of the Kannexan forces held their ground, warding off communist attempts to retake the city from the west. Kaiserliches Heer forces ambushed rebel transport boats on the river as helicopters scoured the area for rebel troops. With the help of Rhuvish anticommunist guerrillas, Kannexans gradually secured the towns upstream from Alzenstadt.

Shei Ren. Gray waves clashed against the rocks. Water splashed onto the rough cliffs above. Here, hundreds of years before, explorers came and wrung their necks here, when their boats hurled into the rocks and splintered into bits. Stormy clouds above stormy waters. A hundred feet above the ground, bombers raced above the sea to above land. Steel raptors guarded from above.

In the Shei Ren, all missile launch sites found themselves under attack. First, anti-radiation missiles wrecked Shei Ren airbase radars and jamming systems. Then JDAMs guided themselves into airbase main towers and defenses. The second wave of bombers came and sprinkled cluster bombs on airbase runways, missile silos, and flight-lines. The third wave cleaned up anything that was left over.

North Cronaal has declared war on Kannex. The full force of the North Cronaal navy began its counterattack on Shei Ren. Ten squadrons of fighters began their attack on the Kannexian fighters while the fleet began to draw in closer.

Having destroyed their targets, Kannexan aerial forces withdrew from Shei Ren before the North Cronaalians could reach them. As there was much time between the attack on Shei Ren and the North Cronaalian counterattack, the Rhuvanland Naval Task Force was able to realign their formation in response to the new hostile elements. The majority of Kannexan ships remained undetected in the Syrixian Strait.

As the North Cronaalian forces drew nearer, Kannexan nuclear submarines laid traps and attacked Nebulan surface ships and submarines. The submarines especially aimed for aircraft carriers. They struck with vengeful force before sinking in the depths of the ocean. As the presence of a submarine necessitated lengthy anti-submarine measures, the Nebulan fleet was delayed as the Kannexan fleet realigned themselves and prepared for the counterattack. At the fringes of the Kannexan naval formation, Kannexan corvettes and destroyers had began attacking their Nebulan counterparts.

Chancellor Torsten Kesler declared it a necessity to "combat international communism and the red powers that dare disrupt the world order. It is our duty to defend peace-loving free nations against the scourge of communism." Nearly unanimously, Congress voted to declare war on North Cronaal. Chancellor Kesler called upon Kannex's allies to do the same.

From the harbors of Manhatt, Könighafen, and Chemna, squadrons of ships set sail for the open sea, led by a young admiral.

Protests broke out in Wallei Provincial University and other campuses across the nation. Young students in ties and gray-suited uniforms shouted with banners and flags. As Kannexan involvement in the war deepened, many left-leaning student organizations took to the streets. Some were socialists or communists. But many were Peace Democrats -- the Democratic Party itself was split among those who supported the war and those who didn't. Many protesters shouted against "KANNEXISHER IMPERIALISMUS" and the "KRIEG GEGEN FRIEDEN".

In response to the submarine attacks, North Cronaal sailors heaved hundreds of depth charges over the side. Meanwhile, helicopters took off, carrying missile launchers to Shei Ren.
Back in Nebula, the Socialist Party schismed, and the Democratic Socialist Party formed. The main difference between the two parties was that DSP leadership was totally against the sort of foreign entanglements that Malachit had dragged Nebula into. The DSP was gaining popularity, too. Many prominent politicians were announcing their shift.
And on the other side, many politicians who had not switched were calling for increased military size and further Nebulan actions in the war. Malachit began to feel the pressure.

Sonar readings from forward ships combined with satellite images confirmed the locations of the Nord-Cronaalisch fleet. The submarines continued to wreck havoc in the enemy naval formation, torpedoing important vessels and holding up the fleet. Just then a swarm of missiles, like a plague of wasps, flew over the horizon and struck the Cronaalisch fleet. The missiles in the air were mirrored in the sea by torpedoes and low-flying missiles that struck the hulls of enemy ships. The runway of the aircraft carrier flung multi-role jets at top speed; Hornets raced in the air and bombed enemy ships. Missiles and Kannexan helicopters hunted down Cronaalisch aircraft. After the initial Kannexan aerial attack, the Kannexans had held aerial dominance in the area.

If Kannex does not withdraw from Shei Ren immediately, the Nebulan government will declare war. This will almost certainly lead to nuclear deployment.

In other news, Nebula has tested our first thermonuclear bomb, with a yield of 20 megatons.

Shei Ren has attacked friendly forces in Rhuvanland. Until Shei Ren ceases its missile attacks on Kannexan and allied forces and North Cronaal withdraws its naval forces, the Kannexan attack will not cease.

A proposal, then:

North Cronaal will withdraw from Shei Ren, as will Kannex. Shei Ren will return to its former status as a Nebulan protectorate, and Nebula will not use it to launch missile attacks on Rhuvanland, on pain of starting a nuclear war.

Formerly rebel, now-government soldiers, in a wave of destruction, pushed through Rhuvanland, once again gaining land. Surrounding the Kannexan regiment near Alzenstadt, the government soldiers leaped upon their adversaries, dealing huge damage to their garrisons. Seizing many Rhuvish naval ships as well as large groups of Rhuvish soldiers formerly working for the FR Rhuvanland, the SFR Rhuvanland's army slowly became larger than the FR's. Taking back lands on the far eastern coast and in Monamien, as well as a swath of land surrounding Alzenstadt, the government once more began to push towards Dunorion and Bürheim, inching closer to victory. However, resistance from the international coalition and the loyal remainder of the FR Rhuvanland's armed forces was staunch, and victories and defeats were won all over Rhuvanland by both sides. However, the push to Dunorion and Bürheim continued.

"Herr Kanzler! Wir müssen die Kommunisten schon angreifen! Jetzt ist unsere Chance!" an Army general clad in a green service uniform demanded. As he banged his fist on the table, the medals that hung from his breast pocket shook and reflected the piercing white light of the otherwise dark room.

A balding middle-aged man in a suit stood from his chair, protesting. "Wollen Sie eine atomare Apokalypse? Kannex -- und die ganze Welt -- sie werden nur Tod sehen, wenn wir einen Angriff erwählen. Wir brauchen Gelassenheit, meine Herren! Herr Kanzler, bitte Nehmen Sie die Abmachung an!"

The two turned to Chancellor Kesler, resting his chin on an upright arm at the end of the table. "Herr Kanzler, was Sagen Sie?"

The Empire of Kannex must be sure that Shei Ren is completely disarmed, for the sake of security. North Cronaal and her allies must immediately cease the shipment of arms to the insurgent forces in Rhuvanland.

Government forces continued to push towards Dunorion. Taking the city easily, they then moved on to Bürheim, ready to wipe out the last remnants of the Federal Republic. However, little did they know that the international coalition had something planned for their supply lines.

We are still awaiting a response from Kannex on the Shei Ren deal.

Meanwhile, Nebula has declared the Red Bloc, an economic and mutual defense organization between The Watching Nebula, North Cronaal, SFR Rhuvanland, Shei Ren, and the remnants of the Ryccian Worker's Army.

The Empire of Kannex must be completely assured that Shei Ren be disarmed and not used against the legitimate government of Rhuvanland or other international forces in the region. To this end, the Kannexans will perform checks. In addition, North Cronaal must stop sending weapons to the Rhuvish rebels.

In response, Syrixia has declared the Blue Bloc, an economic and mutual defense organization between the nations fighting in Rhuvanland: the Helmebaine Powers and Guslantis; the latter being included if they wish to join.

North Cronaal will withdraw completely from the Rhuvish War. Nebula will regain Shei Ren. We will keep defensive troops there, but rest assured that we will not attack, on pain of nuclear war.

Wonderful. We hereby announce our intent to groom Shei Ren into a self-supporting state, as we believe that it is time for it to join the international stage, with its mineral resources and industrial potential.

Meanwhile, as SFR Rhuvish forces captured the small surrounded area to the east of Bürheim, they prepared to converge on the main part of FR Rhuvish territory. Suddenly, however, a Blue Bloc attack on SFR Rhuvish supply lines occurred. However, airdrops as well as new supply lines continued supply exportation to the front. This did not mean the Blues were going to give up, though. Attacks continued as the SFR Rhuvish continued to switch their supply lines and get supplies to the front. It was a wild goose chase, but the SFR Rhuvish were still advancing.

The Emperator had worded the deal carefully. Nothing forbade Nebula from sending supplies.
That said, Nebula could not just pour supplies in. If a Nebulan plane were shot down, nuclear war would ensue. Only border airports and bases could be used, and any action to disable these--- even temporarily--- could cut off the supplies.
Of course, the bases were very well defended, but it doesn't take much to stop a runway from operating...

Sera paced along the catwalk, she hesitated momentarily after turning to face the command desk. Sebt and Andrea had gone to San Antilles with their newborn daughter to get a few months of time together, making her Acting Khan. She adjusted her uniform, a Lieutenant Commander of the Armada, and made sure the Khanate seal was prominently displayed on her left breast pocket before sending a signal to Vist and Akerman.

"We have a signal from Wolfsea, sir." said a clerk to the Minister of Defense. "Acting Khan Sera, Imperial Military Khanate of Wolfsea." Vist looked intrigued. "Put her on the line! This could be interesting." he said. The clerk activated the SyrNet connection and brought Sera on the channel.

Sera cleared her throat, well aware she lacked her brothers imposing air "Minister Vist, as you're probably aware I am currently the Acting Khan, however my brothers policy remains in effect, where will our peacekeepers be required... We can have our fleets prepared for their deployment by morning, all we require is data on where the fighting is at its worst." She finished abruptly, not sure how well she came across.

((ooc: Not sure if I mentioned but Sera is rather attractive and buxom so she might be a little hard to take seriously at first glance.)

The rebels were digging supply tunnels throughout Rhuvanland. Although these were still incomplete, they provided an easy way to get supplies to the front--- time-consuming, but with a decent chance of success.
Meanwhile, in the north, the airbases continued to operate.

The communist rebels found themselves defied and sabotaged in every corner of Rhuvanland, especially in the north and the west. Tanks and vehicles were attacked; the tunnels were discovered and flooded. Communist commissars were ambushed and killed in town squares and communist troops were shot at in the woods. Anticommunist guerrillas, trained and often accompanied by Kannexan special forces, spearheaded covert operations against the red forces.

Similar to their actions in Shei Ren, Kannexan aerial forces struck with a furor. Anti-radiation missiles destroyed what primitive tracking systems the rebels possessed. Control towers felled. Runways broken into unusable craters. Planes wrecked into unsalvageable pieces of metal. A no-flying zone had been placed over rebel-occupied Rhuvanland and only friend forces were allowed over this area. Planes smuggling anything were struck down immediately.
