silly off topic; furthest you've ever went just to go to a resturant/eat.

I'm a budding foodie or you know just fat and like to eat whatever.

But we've been known to go over an hour to go someplace. (Sometimes you get tired of the same stuff in your immediate area)

We are on our way back from such a trip now. Just went an hour 1/2 to go to a German Resturant and i drank some good german beers.(not driving so its good haha) Its not just any German resturant it has some popularity to it; It has been featured on Man Vs. Food with adam richmond on the travel channel and the Govenator Arnold The Terminator schwarzenegger has been known to go there when coming in for the "Arnold Classic" bodybuilding competitions.

After thr first Harold and Kumar movie came out, my kids begged me to take them to White Castle. The nearest one is, I don't know, about 150 miles away. They didn't believe me when I warned them the food quality was sub-par. Ah, the profitablilty of product placement. So, yeah, I drove from Pittsburgh to Columbus to go to White Castle.

I went all the way to London, England to drink at the The Southampton Arms. I was over in the UK and Europe to do an SAA (Skill at arms - that is, a cavalry competition - this is stuff like tentpegging, etc.,,, and not 'reenactment'). I simply had to go to this bar with a bunch of the other riders in the competition so that we could get really pissing drunk and puke right in front of Buckingham Palace. You know, just for the hell of it. And then there was that little piss-house in Poznan, Poland at the the World Cavalry Games a couple of years back. Poznan was never the same. :P

Other than that, about an hour away is the infamous "Egg Roll Station" in Columbia, South Carolina which has the ultimate Kimchi that will literally eat the glazing off a ceramic bowl. :D

GBM, you said youve been to WVA? Huntington is like 45 mins away from me. I've been known to go there for Hillbilly Hotdogs, CrackerBarrel and Five Guys.

Hillybilly hotdogs also featured on TV.

West Virginia is one of my favorite states, but I've never been to Huntington. Last fall I was in Beckley. Stopped at the New River Gorge and Summersville Lake. Too pretty for words.

For those who haven't been to Summersville, the major geological feature is a high, rocky peninsula that juts out, giving a panoramic view of the lake. I drove out to the end of the road and thought I'd stroll out to the rocks. It had been a long time since I'd last been there, and I seriously underestimated how far it was to the point. Actually, I thought it was right there, but it ended up being a 3 1/2 mile round trip. So, I got out to the point. I was just in time to watch the sun set. It was lovely.

Hold on. SUNSET??? Within minutes it was really dark. No ground lights out there, nothing. Now I have to mention for the entire week prior to this, we had been holding Walking Dead and Supernatural marathons. So, on my hike back I'm imagining zombies and demons behind every rock. Yeah, good fun.

It's not strictly speaking distance, but I've spent about an hour riding a (motor)bike around a roughly 10 mile radius around my parents house in the past looking for somewhere cheap open at 9pm on a Sunday. Had about £3 (about £1 of which was in coppers/5ps) to find enough food for 2 of us to eat...ended up buying a snack box in KFC iirc.

Ah the joys of parents randomly deciding to go out and forgetting that a) We were both skint and b) There was no food in the house :P

EDIT: I thought I'd add as I've remembered - the reason my parents were out was because they'd ended up about 120 miles away in search of coffees and going "Well, we're here now, x place is only 20 minutes away, we could go there". They'd only intended on going out for a quick ride :P

When I went on vacation several years back to Tennesee, we took an hour detour out of the way to stop in Corbin Ky. Where the Colonel opened his first KFC its like 1/3rd operating KFC resturant, 1/3rd of a muesum with models of what the first KFC was like (apparently he had a gas/petrol station to you "£" talkin folks, and a motel) and 1/3rd a shrine to the Colonel known as Sanders.

Great Bights Mum:

Foolish children, I hope they learned their lesson. There is a reason that only stoned people seek out White Castle.

Not far at all :P

I mean, the furthest was probably an hour or so away. But that's simply because to get from my house to downtown Toronto via transit can take a while...

When I was in Ecuador we walked 15 kms through the forest and then canoed another 10 kms to get to the small town of Misahualli for a burger :P

In terms of driving somewhere, I'm not so sure. It was fairly routine for my family to drive nearly an hour for dinner when we lived in the country.

Lol, I've had "Aussie" burgers that were burger with egg and pineapple on top. They were quite good.

Lord Nwahs:
Is Outback even really Australian?

A google search says no.

;~;
I have a cousin in Wollongong who said they opened an Outback. Very funny that our fake take on Aussie cuisine would ever go over there. Kind of like Taco Bell in Mexico. Of course they had to change their slogan for that. "Make a run for the border" was too... I can't think of the word I want.
