Why would you want to know?

(It's sort of compulsory until 14, after which you get a choice whether to take it or not)
 
Is that why most Americans are terrible at it?

(I think I took it once when I was ten.)
 
Shouldn't some knowledge of geography be good for anyone?

(I personally know of the 50 states of the US after following US politics like crazy. In contrast, I can't even tell if a certain district in Singapore is in the east or west sometimes)
 
Can anyone presume to know what's good for everyone?

(State capitals are next.)
