Defender Awards
Planning for the 3rd Annual Defender Awards has started, with the main topic of debate being possible additions to the awards, and the re-naming of individual awards. Due to Northern Chittowa's retirement, the awards will be run by Sedge this year. Nominations are due to open in late December, though further updates on this will be distributed closer to the date.
And the awards that are handed out are getting a facelift by our very own Kobold. Kobold is a master with graphics and will undoubtedly do a top notch job re-designing the awards.
A Word With The Arch Chancellor
Spotlight on The FRA
The intent behind this interview is to give our Arch Chancellor, Sedge, the chance to speak out on the recent events you all have undoubtedly heard about and seen involving the Founderless Regions Alliance.
You all have seen and read the GNN issues on Lazarus, and the interviews with John Ashcroft Land and Evil Wolf. This will be our opportunity to provide our perspective, and shed light on what has been happening.
Joshua: I would like to start off with Lazarus. We've heard Evil Wolf's and JAL's accounts on Lazarus. I would like to hear what your thoughts and impressions are in regards to the invasion of Lazarus and the subsequent liberation.
Why did the FRA decide to pull out of Lazarus?
Sedge: The FRA pulled out of Lazarus, because Lazarus did not make any effort to defend itself. Lazarus has several allies, notably The Rejected Realms, and Lone Wolves United, yet no effort was made to contact them for assistance in defending the region. Additionally, several members of Lazarus either had their own World Assembly nation deployed elsewhere, or had troops under their control deployed elsewhere. Examples include Dezzland, and the Black Sheep Squadron (under Evil Wolf's command) being involved in the invasion of FRA member region Central Europe. If Lazarus members would rather invade FRA regions than defend themselves, they obviously don't particularly care about defending their own region. For this reason, the FRA saw no reason to commit troops to a region that didn't want to save itself.
Joshua: This brings us to the situation in Central Europe. Central Europe was invaded by a coalition of invader forces from TWP, The Black Hawks, and Gatesville and subsequently left the FRA. Central Europe left the FRA because of threats from Gatesville, and the actual invasion itself.
What is your perspective on the Central Europe invasion? Were the threats from Gatesville and their actual involvement in this exaggerated?
Sedge: Gatesville had very little involvement in the actual invasion, which was carried out by TWP, TBH and One Big Island. Their troops simply piled in after the region had been invaded. I told Central Europe that Gatesville didn't have the capability to invade a region where there is an active delegate, because they don't have a significant amount of updaters, and I stand by this.
Joshua: Is there anything else you would like to share or say about the Founderless Regions alliance before we conclude this interview?
Sedge: Not particularly

The Region of Central Europe has withdrew its membership, however an embassy has been established instead, and I will make an embassy request for FRA if it hasn't been made already.
I will start a ranking system similar to that of the FRA Rangers for our ambassadors to encourage participation next week.

The Rangers have been very busy and active in the last month, defending and liberation regions from the hands of invaders and imperialists. In the last month, the Rangers have travelled to:

Also in the last month, Sir Lans was promoted to Brigadier General, Klopstock to Colonel, Delta Golf Sierra to Lieutenant, Foolands, Kobold and TripleKo to Staff Sergeant, and Joshua to Corporal.
Assembly Affairs
A proposed 'Defence and Intelligence Pact' between the FRA and the World Democracy League was turned down by the FRA, due to a desire to get to know the WDL better before considering closer relations.
A proposal has been made to edit the Charter to require member regions to post a list of their members who are signed up on the FRA forums, to assist the administrators in their job. It was suggested that rather than being added to the Charter, regions could simply be encouraged to do this.
The Assembly has also been notified that Peaceian is considering a merger with Equinox.
The following law has been passed:
Finally, the Charter has been edited to require Deputy Cabinet members to be from FRA member regions. Previously, this was only required of the actual Cabinet minister.Restricted Areas Law:

3rd Annual Defender Awards
The voting period of the 3rd Annual Defender Awards has ended, we are all eagerly waiting for the results. Expect another update soon covering this story.
The Fellowship of the Defenders
Talks has begun between the FRA and the Federal Alliance of Nations in the FRA Independent Assembly about more cooperation in the field of defending.
The Two Treaties
Last month the FRA started two cooperations with non-regional defender organizations. Both the Defender's Club of Liberalia and the the Crusaders of Justice of Equinoxian Axiom Guild signed Military Liaison Pacts with the FRA, January 3 and 27. The treaty gives the two organizations right to share and exchange mission information with the FRA.

Some comments
Joshua did a narrow victory against Silentvoice for the invasion spotting Ananke Award. However the runner-up Siletvoice did spot the invasion attempt of Rajahland, which was awarded The Operation of the Year Award.
The Anarchotopia Award for the most successful organization in preventing invasions was acquired by the FRA, again. While 00000 A World Power took home the regions' equivalent, the Eagles Disobey Award.
The Crusaders of Justice of the Equinoxian Axiom Guild may be awesome, but they still got defeated in the race to become the best newcomers of last year. The winner of the Newcomer of the Year Award was the FRA Arch Chancellor Kobold of Fidelia.
Karputsk and Pope Lexus X had the most appreciated conversation, a funny stanza about the NationStates' United Nations to World Assembly change, and for this they shared The Best Defender Quote Award.
The raiders
The Worst Invasion of the Year Award was awarded to the invaders participating in Egypt and The North Pacific for epic failure, or as the name of the award suggests, worst invasion.
The Meltdown of the Year Award is awarded to the meltdown, the total anarchy, destruction, inevitable mayhem, implosion, or call it what ever you want of the year.
We can still smell the epic failures of the The Last Kingdom and The New Revolution, both given The Meltdown of the Year Award, due to another tie.
However, the opposite award to the two above, The Blackbird Award, for the best raider organization, was awarded to both The Black Hawks and DEN.
Congratulations, you are half way through this update
The Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Sir Lans foe a lifetime of dedication to defending. While the The Updater of the Year Award was given to Falconias for his enormous work on updates.
However, the big winner of this edition of the Awards are Numero Capitan, the only one receiving the double amount of prizes than the others. The EuroSoviets Award for his IP craziness helping the defender cause, and the Dipes Award for his services to the intelligence cause.

Following the introduction of a new Charter, it is regrettable that we must announce we are no longer using embassies as a means of communication. As a purely military organization, we find very little use for them. Instead, we strongly encourage anyone who is interested in embassies with the FRA, to pursue consul with one of our many member regions. Our member regions from this point onward shall be conducting all of their foreign affairs through their own embassies.
If you are interested in reading our update or blog, you may Private Message Arch-Chancellor Falconias and request to be put on a mailing list, and we will be more than happy to update you on the happenings of the FRA.
However, despite the closure of all the embassies, we still highly encourage you to bring your updates to our forums. We enjoy reading them, and we like to know what's going on in the world of NationStates. My week isn't complete without reading about the latest incident in which The Black Hawks invaded a region under our nose, haha!
