Repeal "Radiological Terrorism"
Category: Repeal | GA#289
Proposed by: Ostrovskiy | Onsite Topic
Replacement: None

This World Assembly,

Aware that within its database of resolutions, there are bound to be many resolutions which have flaws, and furthermore many resolutions which are so fundamentally flawed as to not be worth keeping, and believing GAR#289, "Radiological Terrorism", to be one of the latter,

Confused by the near-circular definitions of Clause 1 of #289, which constrain radiological weapons to those made of radioactive materials, but are otherwise reliant on each other, making them near-meaningless,

Rejecting the claim that radiological weapons do not serve any "practical or effective military purpose" when, indeed, there are many use cases in warfare for radiological weapons as a means of cutting off an area, for example,

Noting that #289 explicitly does not provide any restrictions on nuclear weapons, and that furthermore member states are permitted to obtain nuclear weapons under GAR#418,

Aware that the radiological aspect of nuclear weapons serves as one of their primary features, and believing that it is pointless to legislate on radiological weapons while leaving an obvious carveout for the most widespread and damaging use of said weapons,

Hereby repeals General Assembly Resolution #289, "Radiological Terrorism".
