Repeal "Compliance Comission"
Category: Repeal | GA#390
Proposed by: Solringen, Co-authored by: Walkabout | Onsite Topic
Replacement: None

The General Assembly,

Believing that member states can choose to comply with the General Assembly within good reason and faith,

Noting that the General Assembly has at times passed laws that may make member nations insolvent, inoperable, or outright overthrow their governments,

Confused that the Compliance Commission can accept findings from states outside the World Assembly (WA) and apply them to fact-finding about nations within the WA, when these external nations are not bound by the same burdensome regulations of those in the WA and thus would gain a significant rhetorical advantage on influencing Compliance Commission policy,

Perplexed by a discrepancy within GA#390, which requires member nations' police forces to create a liaison point to provide evidence to the Compliance Commission and yet explicitly states that the resolution "does not grant it the ability to enforce or compel warrants, subpoenas, or judicial action," thereby rendering the requirement extraordinarily inefficient and wholly dependent on the voluntary compliance of member nations,

Convinced that messages regarding the passage of legislation will continue to arrive at the doors of national leaders without such a burdensome and wasteful commission,

Certain that member nation security forces will continue to cooperate with the World Assembly to the extent that it benefits them and their citizens without this wasteful commission’s meddling,

Hereby REPEALS GA#390 “Compliance Commission”.
Note: Only votes from TNP WA nations, NPA personnel, and those on NPA deployments will be counted. If you do not meet these requirements, please add (non-WA) or something of that effect to your vote. If you are on an NPA deployment without being formally registered as an NPA member, name your deployed nation in your vote.

Voting Instructions:
  • Vote For if you want the Delegate to vote For the resolution.
  • Vote Against if you want the Delegate to vote Against the resolution.
  • Vote Abstain if you want the Delegate to abstain from voting on this resolution.
  • Vote Present if you are personally abstaining from this vote.
Detailed opinions with your vote are appreciated and encouraged!

There is certainly a case to repeal the Compliance Commission on national sovereigntist grounds. Unfortunately, this resolution follows a trend of ideologically natsov proposals that do not make - in many cases, perfectly legitimate - ideological natsov arguments in the text. As a result, these resolutions tend to contain serious errors of fact, logic, or interpretation. The arguments in this resolution are so vacuous and stupid that I will be voting against in spite of my general sympathy for national sovereigntism.

AGAINST

Edited to include reason: I personally have nothing for or against national sovereigntism. However, this particular proposal goes far beyond ideology. Becoming a WA member-state means that your nation and its government have agree to comply with the resolutions of the General Assembly. Getting rid of the Compliance Commission would, essentially, make the General Assembly, and the WA as a whole, utterly toothless and a paper tiger. International law in NS would be rendered meaningless, and nations, just as in RL, would do as they please against their own people and against other nations. This resolution isn’t merely an attempt to empower nations to decide matters of policy, it’s a manifesto and a desire to erase the WA itself from existence. This is a resolution I will be staunchly opposed to, full stop.
