AD 340: Constantinople, capital of Emperor Constantius II, becomes the largest city in the world, taking the lead from Rome, capital of his brother Constans I.
 
AD 354: The Roman Calendar of 354, an illuminated manuscript, is drawn up and becomes the earliest dated codex.
 
AD 358: The last universally binding decision, of the Great Sanhedrin, establishes a fixed Hebrew calendar.
 
AD 360: The Huns invade Europe by the thousands, spreading terror as they take over territories held for generations by Alans, Heruls, Ostrogoths and Visigoths.
 
AD 361: A Julian the Apostate coin is issued. It is now kept at the British Museum, London.
