The SSV Ulm 1846 Journal

Christian Gmünder: "Offenbach will be a decisive game".
"It was clear before the season that they would be playing at the top," says Christian Gmünder. He watched the 3:1 win in Freiberg, was still the U19 coach at the Spatzen last year and most recently coached at 1. FC Schweinfurt: "The fact that they did it sovereignly was already impressive." In Christian Ortag, Ulm have "the best goalkeeper in the entire league. The budding soccer teacher certainly trusts the Ulm team to win promotion and would be happy for his former club, but estimates that "Offenbach will be a decisive game to avoid a possible final match" because on the last matchday of the season, May 27, the team goes to Steinbach. It remains to be seen whether the 43-year-old is right.

Hans-Peter Füller: "I am very optimistic that they will make it".
"It would be nice if they could decide it beforehand," says Hans-Peter Füller, chairman of the Donau/Iller soccer district. He, too, was in the stadium for the 0-0 draw against Homburg and plans to be there against Offenbach. "Everybody has a dip in them sometimes. Now they're back on track." He says the region could do with a third-league team - and the soccer district would also be happy to see the next step taken by its sporting flagship. Füller is optimistic that the number of spectators will also increase once again. Will the Spatzen make it to the top? The district chairman says, "Yes, definitely."

Alright, let me translate all of that.

"Marsch-Treff 11.00 Uhr Rathaus" --> March meeting point at 11 o'clock at the town hall of Ulm. (We have planned a fan march to the stadium)
"180 Minuten Alles geben" --> 180 minutes, give everything you have!
"2 Endspiele" ---> Two Endgames (the last two matchdays await and are very important for the promotion battle)
"Sa. 20.05. 14 Uhr Donaustadion" --> Saturday, the 20th of May, 2pm in the Danube Stadium (That's the matchday and time)
"Heimspiel gegen Fulda" --> Home match versus Fulda

It is a fan march planned to the stadium in the last home match of this season, for the promotion!

And for anyone interested.

Here are the highlights of the match with unfortunately german commentary. (But you don't really need that. Most of the time it's just useless chatter)

You might remember my posts here about the Match against the VfR Aalen.

Well, here is now a crazy good cinematic video of the match. Enjoy!

Here are five reasons, why the SSV will get promoted:
1. the pressure
Much has been said about him. The pressure that weighs on the successful - the Ulm team is used to it. With the exception of one match day, they have consistently led the table. That players and coach Thomas Wörle know how to deal with the role of the hunted was shown a few weeks ago. When under pressure, the team delivered. After a slump, the team went on a winning streak - with five victories in a row. That gives confidence. "Since we've had this pressure situation, our team structure has strengthened once again," says captain Johannes Reichert. The prime example: Sunday's 3-2 victory, which the Ulm team won after Stuttgart had twice equalized penalties.

2. the support
Game after game, Wörle highlights them: the fans, the spectators, the backdrop. "Great that so many spectators have come again" and "That also gives us a force on the pitch," are sentences that then fall. Compared to the opening game after the winter break, when 3500 spectators came against Hoffenheim II, the number has risen sharply. The team can rely on the support of the stands in the last two games. Probably more than 10,000 will come to the next home game against Fulda - and several fan buses have already been announced for Steinbach. It's not just the number that counts, but also what comes from the stands: and Ulm, a team in the regional league, has made substantial gains in this area in recent months.

3. the experience
Ulm are the most consistent team in the Regionalliga, which is mainly due to the experience they have on the pitch game after game. Coach Wörle has always relied on defensive stability - and his success proves him right. The oldest team in the league is not easily rattled and is experienced enough to win games of patience. That's a big advantage in the decisive games.

4. the statistics
A 2:0 win against Fulda and a 2:2 draw against Steinbach are the results from the first half. That makes four points - and that's all it would take now. Ulm is the strongest team in the league at home and away. The scores are almost identical. Home: 16 games, 35 points, 26:12 goals. Away: 16 games, 34 points, 27:10 goals. The balance is right, the team can rely on that.

5. the last game
When an experienced player like Thomas Geyer, who has put the ball in the net five times in his professional career, scores the decisive goal, it shows how high the motivation is and how great the will is. Every player knows about the responsibility - and they are all 100 percent ready to do their part. "We want to perform as a strong collective," is one of the elementary building blocks of Thomas Wörle's idea of the game. This collective can also be relied on in the last two games.
