2020 - Progress! :)

I decided at long last to start seeking a location for my model railway project.

The best place with enough space would be in the loft of the house, a lot of railway modellers choose this space.

I realised that a lot of work would be required to do this.

I started essential repairs to the chimney breast and walls, this continued through the summer and it got really, really hot up there.

The roof would have to be insulated and some sort of temperature control would be needed.

Undaunted I carried on with the maintenance and repairs.

But I still needed something to run my trains on in the meantime, even if it was just used for running in and testing.

So I built a dual circuit layout on an 8' X 4' board.

Here is the track diagram..........

2021 - Food For Thought

I had made a lot of progress on the loft.

I then thought that at the end of the year I would be turning 60.

My wife, Cleopatra, is older than me and she was starting to struggle with the loft ladder and I thought how was I to future proof this, my legs will eventually not be so good as well, especially spending a lot of my time on my knees on cold, concrete hanger floors and hardstanding's.

I would need a ground floor layout.

The only place with plenty of room was the garden.

A lot of railway modellers use garages or sheds

The conditions are similar to loft layouts, but at least they are on ground level.

I watch a YouTuber called Barry Davies, he's in his 70's, he has a lot of passion for his model trains and has given me some good advice and tips.

If you're interested this is his YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChVzVVov7HJOrrZ6HRvV2GA/featured

His layout is in a 16' long shed.

Just found a video on YouTube featuring the Barry & Penarth Model Railway Club Exhibition 2022.

This was the first time in three years, that the Barry & Penarth Model Railway Club was able to hold their Annual Exhibition.

It will be held this weekend the 2nd and 3rd of July.

It was an honour to be invited to cover the event by Geoff Cox, and also a Big thank you to Chairman Tim Haines and his staff for making Mrs M and I so welcome.

There were some excellent layouts on display covering all the gauges, and some well stocked trade stands from all over the UK, so why not pop along tomorrow and enjoy what's on show.

Beaver Creek - HO Gauge - Alan Toulcher

Beaver Creek is a fictitious branch in northern Canada, with only two passenger trains a day each way, consisting of one coach and a four axle locomotive. A Proto2000 caboose brings up the rear of freight trains made up from a selection of Kadee, Atlas and InterMountain. All are fitted with Kadee knuckle couplers which give hands free remote coupling and uncoupling (most of the time). The layout is controlled with the user friendly NCE PowerCab.

All locomotives are fitted with Zimo (preferred) or other decoders. Some have sound installed by my good friend Bernard Baker. I hand made the pine trees using ¼" dowel, rubberised horsehair and static grass.
