Tickets available on Saphos Stock Positioning Moves next year​

Luxury railtour company Saphos Trains is offering rail enthusiasts a rare chance to ride on what would normally be Empty Coaching Stock (ECS) moves from Crewe to London Euston and return in the early and late hours on Thursday 12th February 2026.

Named The Positioning Move (1), the train will depart Crewe at approximately 03:30, will be formed of MK1 stock, and is to be hauled by an AC Electric Locomotive.

Class 90 in InterCity livery


The train is expected to run direct down the West Coast Mainline to London Euston.

Once the train arrives in London at around 06:30, the coaching stock will then be used on the Fearless Express Railtour with Class 50 Diesel No. 50050 ‘Fearless’ and then the Cumbrian Mountaineer Railtour with A2 No. 60532 ‘Blue Peter’.

The return leg of Positioning Move (1) will depart London Euston at 23:55 and arrive back at Crewe at 03:00 the following morning.


Standard Class and First Class seating is available on this train. Tickets for Standard Class are £50 per person, First Class tickets are £75 per person.

There will be no open Buffet Car facilities on this service.

Passengers wishing to travel on the Fearless Express railtour and Cumbrian Mountaineer railtour will need to purchase separate tickets to travel on these trains, which are also operated by Saphos.

East Lancashire Railway to welcome Flying Scotsman in 2026​

The East Lancashire Railwayh is to welcome A3 No. 60103 Flying Scotsman in 2026.

The famous locomotive will make a visit in June thanks to the National Railway Museum and Northern Steam.

On the 5th, 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th June, the locomotive will haul trains to Rawtenstall, whilst on the 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th and 12th June, the locomotive will be on static display.

The ELR played a part in Scotsman’s restoration when it returned to steam in 2016, and on the 5th, 6th and 13th June, passengers can enjoy a dining experience behind the locomotive.

Tickets and timetables will be available on the ELR website soon.
