I remember waking up early on the morning of 24th February 2022, approx. 0400hrs, putting on the news on the TV and watching in disbelief at the news I saw and heard.​

Russia has attacked and invaded Ukraine!​

I will never forget the exchange between the Ukrainian Ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya and the Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia.​

Aircraft losses 24 February 2022​

• Ukrainian Air Force – 24 February 2022: A Ukrainian jetfighter piloted by Dimitry Kolomiets is shot down by Russian aircraft in Khmelnytsky during the opening hours of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
• Ukrainian Air Force – 24 February 2022: A Ukrainian jetfighter piloted by Lt. Colonel Yerko Vyacheslav Vladimirovich is shot down during air combat against Russian forces.
• Ukrainian Air Force – 24 February 2022 : An An-26 transport is shot down south of Kyiv, five crewmen from a crew of fourteen were killed.
• Ukrainian Air Force – 24 February 2022 : An Su-27 and a refuelling vehicle were burned out by fire after a Russian attack on the military airfield in Ozerne, Zhytomyr District.
• 
  Ukrainian Civilian Aircraft – 24 February 2022: A Antonov An-74T with registration number UR-74010 was confirmed destroyed by Russian forces during the battle in Hostomel, Kyiv.
• 
  Ukrainian Civilian Aircraft – 24 February 2022: A Antonov An-124 with registration number UR-82009 was confirmed destroyed by Russian artillery during the battle in Hostomel, Kyiv.
• Russian Air force – 24 February 2022: Russian officials acknowledge the loss of a Su-25 in Ukraine operation due to a pilot error.
• (3) Russian Air force – 24 February 2022: Video footage from the Kyiv reservoir showed two Russian helicopters targeted by Ukrainian MANPADs, one is shot down and fell into the water, another helicopter survived enemy fire. A Russian attack helicopter Ka-52 was damaged by MANPADs fire and successfully landed. One Mi-24/35 Gunship lost.
• Russian Air force – 24 February 2022: A Russian An-26, registration number RF-36074, crashed in Voronezh region, Russia, killing an undisclosed number of occupants.

Aircraft losses 25 February 2022​

• Ukrainian Air Force: An Su-27 is shot down over Kyiv by Russian S-400 air defence system , the crash damaged a residential complex. Its pilot, Colonel Oleksandr Oksanchenko, was killed.
• Russian Air Force: Ukrainian forces attack the Russian Air force in Millerovo, destroying at least one Russian Su-30SM on the ground with a Tochka missile salvo.
