The North Pacific Welcome Dispatch

In the TNP Executive server, r3n came to us offering to set up a system which automatically posts the following on a weekly basis: https://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=1013189

It notifies people who have joined that week, who read the dispatch and become involved. It's another form of outreach, along with telegrams.

I came up with this draft of a dispatch:

Welcome to NationStates and The North Pacific (TNP)! It may seem a bit overwhelming at first, but in time you will find it to be a wonderful world that you get to be a part of! To help you reach that point, we wanted to let you in on a few tips that could really give you an engaging experience in The North Pacific. Just click the chevron ([>]) and you’ll warp right to where you want to be.

Please note that some of these steps require an account with The North Pacific’s forum, and unfortunately it is rather difficult to skip that step and do many of the fun activities here. But it’s easy and you’ll be right on your way!

[>] Join the Regional Army!
Does a sedentary life bore you? Do you wish for action? Well, your region would love to hear from you; join the North Pacific Army (or NPA for short), one of the most active and longest running military forces in NationStates. It's a great way to build camaraderie with your fellow soldiers and develop a name for yourself in the region, as well as meet prominent members of other regions when out on operations.

[>] Get Involved in the Regional Assembly!
The Regional Assembly (or RA for short) is our lay-legislative body. All citizens can participate immediately, and it’s a great way to get started in a legislative or judicial career. Even registered residents can participate to a certain extent. If you have ambitions to be Speaker of our Senate, or a future Chief Justice, participating in the RA is the perfect starting point!

Thoughts?

Apply for Citizenship!
Once you have registered, the next thing you want to do is apply for Citizenship. This will allow you to fully take part in our community. Being a citizen has many advantages; you can vote, participate in the legislature, and you can really call yourself a North Pacifican.

Introduce Yourself!
The next thing you want to do is introduce yourself. Start a thread and say "hey!" -- let us know a little about you and what your interests are. We'd love to hear from you! You'll blend right in when we know who you are.
It's a bit presumptuous, not to mention repetitive and contradictory, to be telling people what they want to do and given that it specifically states earlier in the dispatch that 'none of the following is required.' It'll annoy a certain type of personality. One we don't have enough of as it is.

Get Involved in the Regional Assembly! The Regional Assembly (or RA for short) is our lay-legislative body. All citizens can participate immediately, and it’s a great way to get started in a legislative or judicial career. Even registered residents can participate to a certain extent. If you have ambitions to be Speaker of our Senate RA, or a future Chief Justice, participating in the RA Regional Assemblyis the perfect starting point!

I don't like the use of 'lay' here. It confused me a little, despite knowing what was meant. Go figure.
Perhaps use 'non-technical,' or some variation, or leave it out altogether?

The use of the word 'Senate' is both misleading and an Americanism, of sorts. My own alterations are duplicative, but I can't think of a better, and more accurate, way to phrase it.

[/pedantry]

The "New Foundings for the Forum" TG template has some concise and well-written bits in it that you might incorporate.

Also that same template would no longer be necessary or would, at the least, become repetitious, as well.

After some discussion with Siwale, I implemented a different approach for this:

Rather than post a new dispatch, the handbook maintainer script daily updates a list of "Today's featured nations" in the frontpage handbook dispatch.

This list is that day's new TNP nations (either new foundings, or nations that moved into the region).

That way, all of these nations automatically get a notification, they are pointed to the already existing most relevant dispatch, and we don't need to keep spamming new dispatches that duplicate the handbook's information.

Let me know what you think.

Read it over. Looks good.

A general question for anyone: I'd like to see Deputy Ministers listed in both the appropriate dispatches, as well as here at the forum.
In addition, the SC members should be listed in order of the LOS, imo.

Any idea who I should talk to about those?

Ah. My mistake. I'd based my previous suggestion on the erroneous assumption that the vote on the new LOS had concluded several days ago.
