This is called gravedigging. Find the date of the last post prior to posting in them. OOC Spam threads are fine to gravedig, though they may just die again. It's not fine to do so in other areas.
So, if someone told you to do this without explaining unofficial policy regarding dravedigging or, more importantly, is just letting you stumble around in the dark without direction and knowledge, then you're listening to the wrong person, whomever they maybe.
