"in a few moments we will be receiving a message from the Imperator on the current developing situation in Tardine. For those who are unaware Tardine is the most southern nation on Auroria, and they have recently undergone a coup, putting an illegitimate Emperor on the throne. We're going to take you live into the senate chambers."

The broadcast changes to view the inside of the senate chambers.

"As you can see the ceremony is underway, Pretorian guard units force open the doors and all the senators kneel as the Imperator comes in. As per all Imperial decrees, the traditional Togas are required to be worn as per constitutional demands. Now you can see the Imperator ascending to the throne, the consuls flank him on either side, the key is once he sits down and places his hands on the arm rests the senators are then to sit."

Augustus sat on the throne, it was gold, great lions served as the arm rests, and there was purple velvet to sit on. Above it there was a map of the world centered around the Imperium made of gold with flowing mercury water where the rivers and oceans were. Of course there was plenty of glass to prevent the mercury from spilling.

Now Augustus spoke:

Such a blatant act of violation of the rights of government can not stand, what right does this man claim to have? It is for this fact, that I intend to work with our Aurorian allies to come to a peaceful conclusion. Our continent is one that has been free of conflict for many years, however two rouge states can not be tolerated. It is for this reason that a quick response is necessary, I am putting forward by Imperial decree sanctions on Tardine. I also by Imperial decree am declaring that Mr.Danfeh is a criminal, and should he be found in any territories owned, or subject to Imperial law he shall be found and brought to trial in our courts. I now would like to speak tot he people of Tardine directly, we see the injustice that has happened in your nation. We want to help, do not let this usurper and murderer get away with his crimes. You are a strong people with much history, embrace that and cast off the chains of tyranny. To the world wide, I would like to say, use your voice and use common sense join in on the sanctions. This is the only way we can help save for violence. *DIO nos Salvet, go now and conquer."

The camera comes back to Gaius in the news room.

"Well as you can see there are powerful words shared by the Imperator. We will be breaking this down on channel XI, but now back to your regular scheduled *football game of the Ursus versus PACTOR with the current score of Ursus 38- PACTOR 7."

Snap general election finalised - Social Democratic Party win the election

In an unexpected turn of events for pundits and experts, the Social Democratic Party, who advocate for Messianist socialism, have won the 2021 snap general election, albeit by a small margin. The party secured 51.2% of all votes in Aubevijr, or 54,088,337 out of 105,641,285 votes exactly, and secured 409 seats in Aubervijr's Parliament - a majority of 8 seats.

The party, led by Johannes van der Capellen, was a part of the Commonwealth Party until its dissolution after the 8th of August. Johannes van der Capellen is due to be inagurated as Chancellor in 48 hours, and his depute, Casimir Rochussen, the same. Rudolf Verstege has made a statement to the public outside of his residence this afternoon, stating;

"I led Aubervijr to the path of republicanism for over six years, and I am proud to have directly overseen the abolition of the monarchy and the declaration of a second Commonwealth. I have fulfilled my life dream since I was a boy, and I am more than willing to stand aside for a new government, democratically elected by the people."

The Social Democratic Party, a relatively new party, invested a large amount of money into their election campaign, and made big promises to the people of the Commonwealth, which seem to have payed off. They have published a paper titled the "Alternative Economic Approach" (Alternatieve Economische Benadering), which explains the economic beliefs of the party. In short, the paper speaks of a mixed economy, and experts simplified it as 'socialism with a hint of capitalism'.

Whilst advocating for socialism, they are simultaneously a very religious party. Although Messianism is the official religion of Aubervijr already, 'de Sociaal-Democratische Partij' intend to keep it that way. The party associates with Louis (Lodewijk) Alexander Philip Perponcher closely, Aubervijr's third Chancellor, who combined Messianism with a sense of national pride/patriotism, which has dominated Aubervijr's political landscape ever since.

Johannes van der Capellen sworn in as Chancellor of Aubervijr

Yesterday, Johannes van der Capellen and Rudolf Verstege shook hands outside the Chancellor's Residence in Saint Constantijn, marking the handover of power between the two. Rudolf Verstege stood by Johannes van der Capellen in the so-called "National Cathedral" (officially the Cathedral of the Messiah) whilst he was being sworn-in as Chancellor. Casimir Rochussen was sworn-in directly after, and the two shook hands, and then parted ways, with the Chancellor and his Depute departing to the Chancellor's Residence.

Johannes van der Capellen announced his new government before midnight later on that day, which involves politicians such as Jan-Pieter van Hoensbroeck, who's father was a Viscount, as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.

Parliament met at 10:00 AM this morning to congratulate the Chancellor on his new role, as Rudolf Verstege entered the position as Head of the Opposition having last held that position on the 21st of June, 2021, when Leopold III was still the King of Aubervijr.

"In recent days, developments emerging from Tardine have horrified both myself and the government. The illegal coup which has been reported, has seen power seized by the supposed new Emperor, Werdoi Danfeh. Mr Danfeh, I will put it very simply - Aubervijr is disgusted. We stand with the nations worldwide in condemning your illegal actions, and unconditionally support the sanctions imposed on Tardine. You have brought this upon yourself and your country, Mr Danfeh.

Today, Auroria faces a crisis with this growing situation, which will grow worse day by day, I am sure. This recent crisis is cruel and abhorrent, and the statements made by Mr Danfeh should summarise this emergency. It is one of freedom, the preservation of human life and the halt to this illegal regime. We call upon our Aurorian counterparts to come together and stand against Mr Danfeh, not against Tardine, nor its people; but against Mr Danfeh alone, and whomever may support or defend him or his barbaric actions.

We are sure many other states internationally will stand with us against you. And from this moment onwards, Aubervijr shall refuse to recognise Mr Danfeh as the legitimate Emperor of Tardine. "Good evening, I am coming to you all with a special news announcement, an increased boldness on the part of Rayvostoska is to be expected. The elections of Aubervijr have come to a close, and the Socalist sympathetic, Social Democrats, party has been elected into high office. Rumors of a closer bond between the two nations are becoming more common in the Umbramandus, this would create a situation where the neighbors to the south of the sea of Constantine are becoming hostile to our way of life. Esthursia has made statements belittling the death of the legitimate monarchs of Tardine."

Gaius took a drink of his water before returning to speak.

"This can not stand, the world must know about the risk that Rayvostoska poses to stability. While the nations military is not a threat to the Imperium, they do posses Nuclear weapons. Rayvostoska also has been a nation that has threatened to commence the world wide revolution. They have established Gulags, and have replaced them with re-education facilities. Now old allies of the Imperium begin to sympathize with the red banner. This needs to end, for centuries the Imperium has kept Auroria safe from powers abroad. The little regard that these nations have shown for our effort is becoming very apparent, and perhaps it is time that we shift our gaze from threats abroad to those close to home."

The man stood up and looked into the camera.

Aftershocks: Callise still reels from groundbreaking election as political order is rearranged

Callise's established political order is in disarray as Social Credit unexpectedly wins big in the 2021 Election. For the last 40 or so years, Callise has been governed by a rough four party dominant system. The Liberals, Nationalists, Social Democrats, and Civic-Republicans have passed the mantle of power between themselves relatively unchallenged. However, following the Bannet scandal, internal dissent within the Nationalist League, and the explosive growth in support for protectionism and pro-labor politics, the Social Credit Union has won a plurality in the General Court and is seeking to form a government. As Callise adjusts to this new reality, much can be expected to change within the existing political order.

Social Credit's surprising rise in popularity was the result of three factors. First, decades of unrestricted free trade. The unquestioning support of Callise for internationalism and untaxed trade has led to a crisis within Callise's borders. Domestic farmers got underbid by their foreign competition, working class jobs were shipped overseas, and the lowest rung of Callise was hurting. For a time, this angst took it's most militant form among the Sovereigntist Caucus. However, their resolution to work within the Nationalist League served to alienate them from a working class base which were ostracized by Nationalist insistence on supporting free market economics. The Nationalist League further estranged themselves from farmers in their continued support for the Liberal Directorate. Second, the failure of either the TIC and the CTC to organize the rural working class. The neglect of these groups served to further marginalize them, especially given that many farmhands were migrants from abroad. Social Credit targeted these groups directly, and succeeded in winning them to their faction. Finally, the Bannet Principal scandal. The scandal, while horrid in it's own right, was the catalyst for a long growing distrust with the established parties and propelled Social Credit into the spotlight. These factors all contributed to the election of Social Credit, and allowed them to form a coalition alongside the Social Democrats, Left Civic-Republicans, and a variety of other left wing and nationalist parties.

But Social Credit isn't the only party that has seen drastic transformation because of the election. The Civic-Republican Party was bitterly divided in the wake of the Bannet Scandal. While most of the party wanted to leave the coalition government, a small minority wished to remain. This practical matter eventually took on an ideological character, with the long-standing issue of what the Civic-Republican Party is supposed to be being brought to the surface. Ultimately, the left-wing of the party won and they disaffiliated. This prompted the minority right wing to split from the party. This group, known as the Right Republicans, would eventually join the Liberals, leaving the left wing fully in charge of the party proper.

2021 was also an important year for Le Gauche. Having gradually grown into a competitor with the major parties of Callise, the question of the future and purpose of Le Gauche within Callise came to the forefront. At the 2022 convention, held immediately after the elections, Le Gauche overwhelmingly approved a series of candidates and proposals solidifying the control of the Left-Wing of the party. As the convention came to a close, the delegates, convening in Fontaine, approved the Fontaine Programme. Offering only minor revisions on the previous Beaune Programme, the Fontaine Programme officially renamed the Left Party into the Workers Party of Callise. This decision was to reflect the transformation of Le Gauche from a party of activists into a mass-organization of the working class. These changes ultimately led to the withdrawal and expulsion of the right wing elements of the party which would reorganize in the New Democratic Party, a social-democratic and democratic socialist party to the left of the PSD. Unlike the Workers Party of Callise, the NPD is in coalition with Social Credit.

With the future uncertain, Paul Levitch's Social Credit and the ascendant Workers Party of Callise will have to shape their own destinies. We'll keep you updated as the story unfolds.

STRIKE! TIC-affiliated SIT Tèrra and Oceanièr, SI Guèrras declare strike, 100,000 walk picket lines

As Callise gears up for the 2021 election on November 1, the Industrial Workers of Callise (TIC) is eager to remind the politicians of the duty they owe to labor. Following stalled contract negotiations with Phoenix Shipping and Freight Inc. (one of the largest shipping companies on the Phoenix Strait), the TIC staged a walkout this monday, with 100,000 members of the Warehouse, Land Transport, and Oceanic Transport Industrial Unions walking out of their workplace to form a picket line. While their demands include a 10% pay-raise for all employees, as well as greater company contributions to their pension funds, the unions also seek to flex their muscles as their affiliate party Le Gauche heads into the 2021 elections.

The strike vote took place the previous Friday. Following demands from management for cutbacks to pensions in order to keep up with the needs of e-commerce, the TIC rank and file voted to reject a contract proposed to them by management and subsequently voted to strike. This marks the largest strike in Callise since the 2000 General Strike called by school teachers, and exhibits a definite turn towards labor militancy in Callise's unions. Although initiated by SI Guèrras Local 1, SIT Tèrra Local 451, and SIT Oceanièr Local 3, all located in Beaune, strike action quickly spread to other SI Guèrras, SIT Tèrra, and SIT Oceanièr locals across the coastal region of Callise. The TIC Central Committee is currently in talks with other locals in the area to expand the scope of the strike to a General Strike, making it the first one in over 20 years. However, it is doubtful PSF Inc. would allow the industrial action to continue for that long. The size of picket lines have obstructed efforts to send in scabs and the union has already brought the company back to the bargaining table. Needless to say, the industrial action is working in the favor of the TIC.

The reaction to the strike has been mixed, in both labor and politics. The Callisean Congress of Labor has announced it's support for the TIC workers and declared small scale solidarity actions in their locals which work within PSF Inc. However, it is clear that leadership from within the union bureaucracy is hesitant about the political character of these strikes. While the Federation of Public Servants has remained quiet, the Social Credit-aligned Revenist Labor Association has offered it's full throated endorsement of the action. Paul Levitch even appeared on nightly news to defend the workers and offer his support in their struggle for a better contract. Politically, the strikers have been supported by Le Gauche (the political affiliate of the TIC), as well as the Social Democrats and Social Credit. However, strikers have faced strong criticism from the Liberals and Nationalists, who have called the strike a "thinly veiled political threat" against the reigning Directorate. These accusations were met with outrage from Hubert Bennett, candidate for Principal of Villeurles representing Le Gauche. He took to Fluttr to voice his outrage, calling the accusations "ludicrous" and demonstrable proof of the corporate masters behind the Liberals and Nationalists.

Although short-lived, the strike has become violent. Vans carrying scabs to the factory were overturned and set on fire (after those within were removed), and many more vans had their tires slashed. Le Gauche activists, in support of the strikers, went further, locating a hotel where the company had been putting up scabs and intentionally setting off car alarms to prevent them from getting sleep. Finally, violence has often broken out between private security and the picketers. In one instance, a TIC Shop Steward knocked a guard unconscious after the man had hit another picketer with a rubber baton. And as violence escalates, pressure mounts on both the TIC and PSF Inc. to come to a deal.

'Anti-Terror, Crime, Security and Democratic Preservation Act' passed in Parliament and Upper House; signed by President Van Rijckevorsel

'MOTION BY THE MEMBER;

Proposed on the 1st of October, 2021
The Parliament,
Heard the deliberation,

Noting that fascist and/or communist parties have spread terror across the world, and have launched campaigns of genocide;

Noting that fascist and communist parties within the Commonwealth have members who actively condone and advocate for these campaigns;

Whereas states globally who were under the rule of fascists, communists or other radical ideologies in the past, have banned and/or criminalised extremist parties;

Believing that the Commonwealth should follow in the steps of these nations to preserve our democratic way of life;

Believing that any possibility for the growth of radical influence across the Commonwealth should be stopped pre-emptively;

Recognising that radical parties within the Commonwealth are violent groups of hate-driven and anti-democratic people, who want nothing but to burn the system of this nation, which we have maintained since 1649;

Calls upon the Parliament to criminalise and ban any parties deemed extremist, and rule out the possibility of extremists having a say in political affairs within the Commonwealth,

And proceeds to the order of the day;

Albert de Collaert, Social Democratic Party.'

This was the motion read in Parliament which would lead to the proposal of the Anti-Terror, Crime, Security and Democratic Preservation Act (shortened to the 'PCA'), which would receive a first, second and third reading. It was then voted on, and 627 voted for the act to be passed onto the House of the People, where it achieved a first, second and third reading.

The House of the People voted on it, and approved the bill, which was signed by the President, thus banning and criminalising any parties deemed radical within the Commonwealth. The bill essentially forced 'extremist' parties to dissolve. Whether they still operated and met, was another story.

Police had now been given a justification to arrest members of these parties, and their leaders too, on the basis of 'preserving democracy' and preventing terrorism and/or extremism. Police have been tasked with enforcing the bill to the best of their ability.

Members of Parliament from all parties have condoned the act as 'a sensible way of ensuring this democracy and the freedom that comes with it is protected', and have denounced those who have condemned it. Among those, the far-right National People's Party, who were listed as one of the radical parties - who denounced it as 'immature and a suppression of our supporters'. This has been widely ignored, however, due to the incredibly small amount of support they actually have.

Aubervijr abandons pursuit for diplomatic cooperation with Rayvostoka

In a statement made outside the Chancellor's Residence within Saint Constantijn a short while ago, Johannes van der Capellen, following the ban on fascist and communist parties, announced the abandonment of (further) diplomatic cooperation between Aubervijr and Rayvostoka. In short, the statement confirmed Aubervijr had suspicions of possible human rights violations within Rayvostoka, which confirmed that there was a suspicion that Rayvostoka maintains work camps to this day.

"Further diplomatic cooperation with Rayvostoka is no longer in the best interests of the Commonwealth", said Van der Capellen - "I believe that, with the allegations being said, its too much of a risk to pursue any diplomatic ties with Rayvostoka. Knowing what communist parties and movements worldwide have done in the past, and to think that such a history is possibly being repeated on our own continent, is a sickening thought."

This comes after statements made against Rayvostoka and Tardine have increased, with the latter due to the illegal seizing of power by the illegitimate Emperor of Tardine, Werdoi Danfeh, which saw the execution of Tardine's Royal Family. The Commonwealth condemned Tardine and Danfeh following this, but stated it wanted to pursue diplomacy with Rayvostoka, and used the word "cooperation".

However, with the Social Democrats still standing against communism and strongly for freedom and democracy, analysts and experts have called it a good decision from Van der Capellen, and stated it was the "logical option", especially following the ban on radical parties within Aubervijr.

In the mean time, Van der Capellen has made an effort to ensure Aubervijr's Aurorian counterparts that Aubervijr will stand against communism, as it is now viewed as a threat to the Commonwealth's democracy, which Van der Capellen will protect.

Mortipal Finally Declared A Sovereign Country By The Eras Community!

Recently, the Eras community officially launched a statement declaring it's approval of Mortipal (A.K.A Mortipalia) as a sovereign country. The Eras community rejected Mortipalia's first application for approval because of the ongoing the civil-war between Socialist Kemitia and the Mortipalian Authority. After the recent end of the war however, and Kemitia's forced annexation, the application was still rejected because of the Capital Province (Castellano Provinciale)'s semi-autonomous declaration. After the delcaration was struck down, and the Castellano Provinciale officially named a Mortipalian province, the application was accepted.

They have for years tried to use the international communities disregard for them to shield them from their actions. They have kidnapped our citizens and have rattled the saber at us for decades. It is time that the world pays attention to them, and removes them from the LP, as they will not do the actions that was asked of them. End the facade of willingness to cooperate with them and slay the red menace. Rayvostoska Delenda Est!"

Alborough survives in-party coup
The vote of no confidence in the Leader of the Progressive Conservatives failed, but was closer than he may have hoped

It could be said that the Progressive Conservatives have been - as with most major parties, let's be honest - in perpetual conflict for a good few decades. Factions from the left of the mainstream party line have battled for control from traditional factions - for instance, the Brantley Group and Anthony Black in the Socialists, trade unions and Newboke in Labour and now Alborough attempting to fight off the Agrarians in the Progressive Conservatives. In the case of the Brantley Group, they've succeeded. Newboke has been able to fend off trade unions through tactics of "public unity, request and seize", but Alborough has always been far more susceptible to attacks - particularly as the party has been out of power since the days of Gregory Manning in the 2000s.

Alborough has also faced increasing scrutiny for his party's direction over past months - polling remains fairly dismal, and public perception, particularly among centrists, has slumped - and his choice for Deputy Leader, who is none other than Gregory Manning. Branding Manning as a "successful Conservative" has proved harder than expected, with most centrists seeing him as a radical anti-reformer who put them off the party and towards Newboke, and even major voices in the Progressive Conservatives criticising it.

The Agrarians and liberal conservatives saw their chance for blood - and missed the mark. 61% voted to keep him as leader, a crushing blow for sceptics who had, for years, claimed the tide had turned against the leader. Alborough and his supporters have in recent days played it off as a massive vote of confidence, rather than a failure of a vote of no confidence - and they're right to. Causes for celebration among his followers have been few and far between, so this is more than deserved.

The party civil war is far from over, but the battle has been decisively won by Alborough. With an election in just two months, it's a good job he did - or the election would certainly have been lost.

Cia-vesa, Ilia - At a tight vote (339-311) on Monday night the incumbent Democratic March Coalition passed a landmark piece of legislation, the Voting Standardization and Outreach Act.

Billed as a fulfillment of a major campaign promise of Premier Irenia's 2018 campaign it seeks to bring a better balance into Ilia's political system and to hopefully bring more a more unified experience across the Coalition.

Below is a bullet point of the major aspects of the legislation.

• Fixed 3 Year Election Cycles
  • A ban on snap elections
• Halting the growth of local representatives to 650
• Halting the growth of the Coalition Senate to 175
• Granting the Senate greater oversight authority over the Leagues and Kingdom
• Setting the next election to July 2022

It has yet to be seen if the reform will benefit the Socialist Union or their parliamentary allies but it does prove that the Premier is managing to hold onto its fragile caucus.

Daenath, Itrea - At a press conference last week Director Julean el Trecht of the Communist League and Assembly Member Fancisca Denaud of the Iliac Verte have announced a new political order.

Iliac Verte, a splinter group of the now defunct Union of Liberals & Greens will bolster the Democratic March by merging with Communist League in the next election. Forming the Pact of the Red-Greens (RGP), IV will get the concessions from the League that the Liberal-Democrats refused. Verte will maintain its HQ in the Icetian city of Nicasca while the League will maintain its traditional HQ in the Itrea city of Daenath with a joint office opening in the City of Ilia. el Trecht and Denaud will act as Co-Leaders of the RGP with Ilia's first Split-Leadership party.

Good evening everyone I am John Hank and this is the DKL ( Democratic Kingdom of Lesta ) national news, today is a tragic day for the kingdom as a terrorist attack has recently happened. Today at 1:34 PM on Aldrich street in the Capital city of Elgar terrorist attacked the royal family's convoy while they were out touring the city and going to charity to help the poor. The attack began around 1:34 PM while the royal family was on Aldrich street, when a small SUV loaded with explosives ramed thought the barricades and went straight for the royal family's limousine. Luckily the royal guard and police officer with the royals recognized that this car was loaded with explosives and shot the driver.

When the driver was shot his body moved the steering wheel and made the car go towards a small shop. The shop was closed for the tour luckily were it then exploded severaly damaging the shop and the surrounding area.

After the SUV explodeds a number of vehicles came through the barricades and terrorists that were posing as bystander took out weapons and stated firing at the convoy. The the crowd watching the tour immediately began running away as the guards who didn't get hit with the oncoming bullets took cover and returned fire. Terrorist started coming out of the vehicles that had came in after the explosion. In the battle some of the guards started trying to get the royal family out of their vehicle, but the terrorists saw this and started aiming of the royals. A sniper named Cisco was watching over the family and guarding them on top of a building and when the attacked started. When he saw the terrorists aiming for the royals he started giving the covering fire letting the royal family escape. But unfortunately a bullet had hit Lord Aldrich in the leg, but with the help of the guards he made it to safety.

Once the terrorists knew that the royals had escaped the started retreating, but we're intercepted by reinforcements were they either surrender or were killed. Forty one terrorists were confirmed to be there but more were likely, and out of the forty one eleven were caught, twenty one were killed, and nine escaped. Out of a total of thirty three deaths ( not including terrorists ) twelve were civilian and twenty one were royal guard/police, and 48 civilians and guards/police were injured during the battle.

Leopold van Coeverden purchases lavish estate in Aydin

Leopold van Coeverden, several months after his not-so formal state visit to Aydin, has now purchased a lavish estate, named the Saphire Estate (Safir Mülkü), near the city of Konya.

Leopold van Coeverden was rumoured to have attended a lavish party with the ruler of Aydin during his 'state visit', which was described in Parliament as 'not so much a state visit, but more a big party'.

The purchase of the estate comes a few months after the abolition of the monarchy, where Leopold had land, titles and possessions stripped from him, barring Constantin Palace, which has transformed into a tourist attraction and museum, as Leopold hasn't spent a single night in the palace since the abolition.

The purchase allows Leopold to resume a friendship with Osman, the ruler of Aydin, who were said to have gotten on well during the state visit.

Leopold is expected to spend a lot of time abroad following this purchase, specifically in Aydin, where he can continue partying and enjoying the benefits the estate may have. Away from the media and the hassles of politics and Aubervijr as a whole, it may be perfect for the former King. To live like one, even when he lacks any royal titles.

As the first foray outside of Gotho-Craviter waters since the end of the Fascist War the Ilian SDN announced the importance of choosing a flotilla made up of elements of fleets representing all three member-state of the Coalition a spokesman working for the SDN was quoted earlier today stating "... The whole of Coalition stands by the the idea that there is too much suffering in this world and we want to make it clear that our people wish to finally put our foot forward on the international stage as mediators and a people willing to put themselves in tense situations to draw down tensions."

The Flotilla will be mustering at Port of Eliar in Central Itrea before making it's way easy north of Craviter before diverting south to pass by the waters of Prydania and Norsia as a symbolic nod of it's mission being part of the Luscova Pact. Expected to reach Auroria in roughly 2 weeks hopping to dock in Saudivici shortly to engage in initial talks before taking up it's final patrol area in International Waters between Suadivici and the Rayvostoskan Islands.

SDF suffers embarrassment as Whiteout '21 called off after just 10 days

KARISTE, VA -- The General Staff of the Scalvian Defence Forces announced the early end of exercise Whiteout '21 just three days ago, but new disturbing details have been leaked to the press as to why it was called off.

Exercise Whiteout '21

Exercise Whiteout '21 was a major exercise of the SDF, originally slated to last from the 7th of December to the 29th of December, that is 22 days. It came as a surprise, then, when the SDF confirmed the end of the exercise on the 17th of December. Though welcomed by many of the participating soldiers, who would get to go home for Christmas after all, new disturbing details have emerged, that tell us why the SDF was so vague in its statement declaring the exercise over.
Leaked documents confirm, that Exercise Whiteout '21 focused on an invasion of the Eastern Scalvian Coast, by a fictional country called "The Socialist Republic of Arkanskaya," likely intended as a fictionalization of Rayvostoka. The exercise foresaw a significant combined arms operation, involving elements of the Arkanskayan Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force.
The Exercise foresaw a delaying battle across Tauroga, until another fictional country, the "Imperium Sanguinum" (likely intended as a fictionalization of the Imperium Suavidici) intervened in Arkanskaya. The whole fighting was intended to take 22 days, with the enemy getting no further than the city of Mažeikmene, in central Tauroga.

Reality

In reality, by day ten of the exercise, the fighting power of the Scalvian Defence Forces had been totally destroyed. The 2nd Armoured Brigade, the SDF's premier armoured formation had effectively ceased to be a unit capable of any fighting. Upwards of 80% of its equipment and personnel had been lost. The 1st Infantry and 3rd Mechanized did not fare much better, losing upwards of 75% of their manpower and equipment. In the air, the Scalvian Air Force had been almost totally destroyed, with just four combat aircraft available for missions, while the Scalvian Navy's Eastern Flotilla had lost all of its vessels. The Exercise was called off as Arkanskayan forces began to enter Selia, having dislodged all resistance from Tauroga. The rest of the report was quickly classified by the government, but the details now known to the public are in stark contrast to the SDF's original plan.

Political backlash

The response from the Government was immediate, as Prime Minister Voldemar G. Tamm immediately stated his intention to have the Government Present a new Defence Review, with consultations between the Government and the SDF already underway. The Defence Review is predicted to bring a significant increase in defence spending, as well as significant acquisitions. The Opposition has indicated that it would support some limited increases in spending, but nothing radical, with the Leader of the Opposition Andris Pētersons stating that he would support increased defence spending, but not at the cost of human welfare. The Scalvian Government would not need the opposition's support in passing the Defence Review, and it is likely that such a review would not have the opposition's support.

Regional Instability

The SDF's failure comes during a period of deep instability in Auroria, with Ultramont also debating measures to increase its defensive capabilities.

New Year Marks Closure of Beloved Library

The Bibliothèque Municipale in Charbonne closed today in a bittersweet moment for the townspeople. The building was constructed in 1876 and has served as a library for the town ever since. The late internationally-renowned Professor Jacques Tipaire worked at the library for a number of years in the 1950s before ultimately working his way into the academic scene in Saint-Cyr and his physics innovations.



"I've been to this library regularly since I was a little boy," said Marc Hadrien, 81, "It's been a special place where I've discovered and learned so much about the world. It's a shame that it won't remain a library, but I'm glad at least they're not tearing it down."

The heritage property will go up for sale in the coming weeks. Celebrity chef Rous Maton announced he would be placing a bid to turn the old library into a restaurant, hoping it becomes a new institution along the main street in his native town.

The Union of Aurorian States was founded yesterday, formed as an organisation to promote stability, economic growth and cooperation between Aurorian nations, with its headquarters based in Kariste, within Scalvia.

This follows rumours of instability in Rayvostoka, which is still shrouded in some mystery. Not much is known about the potential situation, however updates are guaranteed to follow.

Aubervijr's delegate to the Union is Christoffel Sempier, an ambitious and young diplomat who has prior served as a Member of Parliament for the Republican Union Party. Although of Faursian descent, with his parents being from Dedemstad; however he was born in Saint-Constantin, after his father had become a judge within the city.

Paulus d'Ansembourg is his deputy and aide, who is older, however less experienced, and has routine communications with Saint-Constantin over matters of great importance, which is then passed on to Christoffel.

Christoffel will be cooperating with representatives and diplomats from both Navsland and Scalvia, and any future, potential members. The government is understood to be opposing the entrance of Tardine and Rayvostoka into the pact for the time being.

RSP, NDF, and WCP to Collaborate on Removal of Peers from Chamber of Law

With less than a year to go before the next Parliamentary and Prime Ministerial election, party leaders from Royal Solidarity, New Democratic Frontiers, and Workers Comradeship have jointly announced a major plank in a combined platform. RSP Deputy Chairman Jean-Baptiste Chastain, the new NDF Chairwoman Félicité Jaubert, and WCP Chairwoman Christelle Alard released a letter to the press this morning indicating that an early priority in the new term will be the removal of the peerage from the political system.

Citing continued opposition from the vast majority of the peers against the reformist and liberal agenda of both RSP and Princess Claidie herself, the parties conclude in their letter that the removal of the peers is the only solution that allows the RSP to "continue its work to show its solidarity with the princely family." While NDF and WCP also make the removal of hereditary rule altogether part of their party platform, Chairwomen Jaubert and Alard admit that "the journey to that point will be long, but removing a group of entitled aristocrats from politics is a good first step."

The trio of parties mention in their letter that they will also be giving their endorsement to "a Prime Ministerial candidate with views on the peerage consistent with the advancement of democracy," triggering speculation among pundits that Prime Minister Ellison may be losing support from her own party. Even if the Chamber is able to pass a law to remove the peers, support from the Prime Minister is essential, given Princess Alice's historical opposition to assaults against the barons. To have a chance at passing the law in the first place, the alliance would need a pick-up of six seats.

When asked by Lodestar News, the Prime Minister's office responded with a short note saying that "The Prime Minister was not involved in the discussions between the leadership of the three parties. Regardless, the Prime Minister looks forward to advancing the will of the people."

KARISTE, VA -- As the Federal Assembly continues to debate a border reinforcement package, the Scalvian Border Guard is moving additional assets south.

Background

With the opening of the Esthursian border, with its ascension to the Union of Aurorian States the Border Guard vacated most of its posts in the north, with significant staff cuts likely. Staff cuts, however, have not happened, as the additional personnel relieved the elements of the Vaigan Home Guard deployed on the border of Grecoideatia, a country bordering Scalvia's Vaigan Republic. The country is known for its religious zealots, and is considered a security risk by the Scalvian Government, as a potential source of religious terrorism.

Deployment

The Scalvian Border Guard has moved thousands of personnel to relieve the elements of the Vaigan Home Guard assisting the Border Guard up to this point. Elements of the 1st, 4th and 6th Vaigan Home Guard Battalions have been allowed to return home. Additional Border Guard UAVs have been deployed to patrol the border. In total, about 3,500 Border Guards from the Esthursian Border have arrived to the southern frontier, and have begun assisting in setting up the temporary barbed wire border fortifications.
In a statement, the Federal Ministry of the Interior has confirmed that the redeployment will likely remain permanent, with no agent layoffs expected.

Border Reinforcement Package

The Union Party with its new outright majority is looking to push through a 220 million crown (277.2 million IBU) border reinforcement package, which would extend the urban border fence to cover the entire border. The package also calls for the building of 32 watchtowers along the fence. Additionally, the Border Guard is to be equipped with new aircraft, and monitoring devices. There has been broad Federal Assembly consensus on reinforcing the border.

Rosemary Manning's economic proposals mark shift towards one-nation conservatism

The Conservatives' continued leftward shift under Manning is undeniably a gamble - with the hard-right of the party already having broken off - however it might just finally stop the alienation from the Union that has locked them out of power for over a decade.

Rosemary Manning's recent conference in Thurrock has, for the first time in post-Greenwood Conservative history, committed the party to some form of fully nationalised sector of the economy. Manning told an audience of a few thousand last night:
Manning's recent positions have been nicknamed "blue socialism" by critics, with the EPP's leader and former Conservative Baron for West Downstonshire Graham Ingley branding her "a radical leftist at the heart of our once great party".

With the general election coming up in April, Manning seems increasingly committed to win back voters alienated by the Einarsson crash of 2010, rather than the "one more heave" mentality of Alborough - which famously backfired in 2014, resulting in a left-wing coalition government. The proposals themselves have been nicknamed by Esthursia Elects - an independent think tank based in Brantley - as a "natural process for a party, whose flirtation with free-market economics has drawn the short straw one too many times", and stated that "Manning has little to fear from her party - the few vocal critics to this shift have long since left, and the most she may expect is some unease and a smattering of concerned letters from the Harding Group of her party." Manning's party currently remains in second, with predictions pointing towards net gains but no control of government.

Forethane Osborne has remarked that "even the Conservatives have given up being conservative", and that "the attempts by their party to shadow our party's great economic recoveries from their great economic wrecking balls won't be fooling anyone". Whether it will pay off, and result in electoral gains - even the end of socialist government - or whether it will only deepen the divisions dealt by an already controversial leadership, is still not yet known even to Manning herself.
