I think it would be fine to do that for current elections, once nominations open. To do it for future elections or before nominations open might cause confusion.
 
I agree with r3n. It doesn't bother me in the slightest that people are starting campaigns so soon. I've always thought it was stupid for people to wait until the nomination period. Having campaigns start with enough lead time could help to create a more informed electorate. :)
