So I have to ask....

Thirty lashes with a wet noodle!

"Romanoffia meets out punishment without mercy......."

:D

I actually think penalties should be in the form of community service. For exmple: 5 posts a day on the RMB for 30 days, 10 forum posts per day for 2 weeks, create a new topic that runs at least 3 pages, etc. Also, displaying an appropriately embarrassing avatar or sig for the duration would be a suitable sentence.

Now why don't any other regions factor in community service as a form of punishment....it's much more rewarding and beneficial while also still penalising the offender, no?

 Nice job GBM for your thinking ^_^ :ADN:

Hehehe. I like that.

And how about posting "I have been a bad boy/girl' every day for a month on RMB with a link to an appropriate thread detailing the offense?

Talk about public service! Think about it - if we had enough minor legal infractions by enough forum members, we could keep the RMB free of spam forever!

*Romanoffia sets dangerous legal precedent by convicting himself of a parking violation (he illegally parked...right on a policeman) and sentences himself to make anti-spam posts in the RMB at least one time per day for 30 days*

Actually, GBM, your idea is great!

You'd have people volunteering to be convicted of offenses just to free the RMB of spam.

The first law enacted is that using excessive punctuation is a criminal offense. Polsty would then automatically be our entire anti-spam force!

But really, I like the idea!

Community service doesn't quite work as a punishment because it's basically saying "you have to post or else we'll prevent you from posting."

Actually, it replaces punishment with positive reinforcement - and makes the punishment fun for the punished and useful for the region. :D

It also doesn't make enemies of people that are given penalties for offenses while helping to prevent the overflow of RP issues into personal grudges that fester.

I personally like the idea of community service interspersed with punishments. It provides variety and more of a sense of "punishment fitting the crime" than suspension or banning.

It's not a matter of whether it's preferable, it's a matter of whether you're able to enforce community service. There's no way to enforce it.

It's not that hard to enforce. If they refuse to do community service, there can be consequences.

I think this is a good idea and something that should be seriously considered. Having them perform community service will allow them to still be penalised, while allowing them to make amends by performing some form of community service, and be able to be shown that they have learned the error of their ways and still can contribute to the region. :ADN:

Changing the frame of reference a bit...

Community service as a penalty works when the trials are part of the fun, because then the "penalty" is to continue having fun. Like losing a bet with friends.

Community service won't work if it's all got a nasty feel and overtone. Because frankly, a trial like that has only one enforceable penalty (banning) and it's not fun for anyone.

So somehow we have to make it work so it's not too fun nor too negative, like it is a form of punishment/rehab...

btw, is that Neptune in your avatar? :ADN:

OOOH! OOOH! I've got it!

If someone refuses to do community service, we can have a subforum that serves as a 'jail' - you mask the offending nation as 'prisoner' and restrict them to that section of the forum for a few days if they don't want to do community service.

Indeed. It actually sounds like a good idea. I like it!

BRILLIANT! :D :ADN:

Hint: That didn't work for the NPO. I can't see how it will work for you.

The point I was trying to make was that it should be kept in the "fun for all" category. There is no actual "punishment." It's fun.

The Gulag was a miserable failure, IMO. Even the one person who went in willingly only produced one article/act of penance before getting bored and vanishing.

So, a trial with community service attached is great, provided the "punishment" is understood to be fun.

Like Flem's avatar or the tutu avatar worn by... (can't remember his name now) in the NPO. Those people are more likely to remain with a community they consider fun than with a community they consider filled with dull obligatory tasks.

I'm just sayin'

I think you are headed in the wrong direction with the Gulag/prison idea.

If it was me, I would keep it fun.

Fair enough so still community service without the prison thing.....perhaps the prison could be part of RP? :D :ADN:

I think the prison thing would be hysterical. The idea is to make it fun for the prisoners too. Tres could be the warden of the TNP Correctional Institute. :D

Sounds like a section of the .info board I was playing around with. Suppose I could whip up the plans for those if you really want. ;)

Fine, either do the community service or be denied membership to the RA. It's just that simple, I mean you people have committed crimes against the state, you've torn our region apart for the past several months and when faced with an opportunity to redeem yourself you just bitch and moan.

Forget it.

lol @ Grimalkin and JAL

Anyway, I still don't understand why you complain so much, Sniffle. I don't think any of us bitch or moan yet so don't get your knicker in a twist. We wouldn't be here if we don't think TNP can be better and that we like to contribute to it.
