Consulate of The East Pacific

Long time, no see. My first diplomatic posting in the game was in The East Pacific (circa Jan. 2004) so I've always had a warm, nolstalgic feeling about your region.

Welcome back to the NP.

My thanks for your warm welcome. It is indeed a pleasure to have the East Pacific represented once again on this forum, and I truly hope it will strengthen the relations between our two great regions.

I am probably one of the more formal members of the region. I suspect, Blackshear, from what I've been told, that although the forum membership has altered somewhat, you would still find the forums themselves very familiar.

TEP has long been known for it's neutrality, and it's something that is spoken of often. We are also very much a role-playing region, so I hope it will not come as too much of a surprise that my reports will contain links to such.

My thanks, Haor Chall, for opening this Consulate.

Welcome to the Consulate of The East Pacific!

Government

As predicted, the Magisterial Assembly voted unanimously in approving Loop as TEP's new UN Liaison.

It's with great pleasure that TEP and TNP have once again resumed diplomatic relations. TEP is looking forward to taking part in The Feeder Summit in TNP.

In The Forums ...

The EP Wiki is now an on-going project. As more of us become familiar with the set-up and return from holidays (pesky things, those!), expect to see the content grow, and hopefully, the forum shrink!

In the RP Arena ...

Many nations new to TEP have asked, "How do I get involved in the RP?" in their introductions. To help them get started, many of them have either been TG'd or PM'd inviting them to take part in a new, introductory thread, "The Delegate's Reception". Nothing fancy, it's just an opportunity for individuals to create a character representative of their nation or not, and attend a social function in the regions's capital, Rillanon. It's even rumoured that the Delegate himself, Nicholas Richardson of Gnidrah, may ... wait for it ... actually put in an appearance. Granted, he may not speak, but in true Alfred Hitchcock-like fashion ...

After mainland Infinite Loop split off from Infinite Loop to become the United States of Korea (don't ask ;)), and following the outbreak of the Neko flu earlier in the year, Infinite Loop has virtually become a third world nation. It is now under attack by the U.S. of Korea and has, in error, deployed amongst its regular missiles, 9 nuclear warheads at Pyong Yang in The State of the Nation.

Shiro Academy students are also affected as they seek shelter from the bombing going on around the city of Cupertino.

Diplomatic negotiations are still underway in the nation of Reziel. Although there are certain personality clashes, to put it mildly, no one has yet come to blows!

Things are definitely getting a little warm for Geitz Freehold, the leader of Xiopothos, whose role is currently being played by FPS, our RP Administrator, in Private Calling. I can't imagine why unleashing a plague of metroids on a nation, or sending a group of terrorists after the daughter of a Kandarinese Elvan Lord would be cause for concern! ;)

That's it for now from TEP. If you find yourself craving for news, pull up a comfy chair and tune into either The East Pacific News Services or drop by the Forums.

As always, feel free to ask questions or express concerns, and I'll do my best to answer them. :)

Government

The term of the 3rd Magisterial Assembly draws to a close on September 3, 2006. At that time, nominations and elections will be held for the 4th MA. According to the Charter of the EP, the MA serves for no less than 5 months and no more than 7 months, the exact dates being determined by the Delegate. Go on. Guess. How long is the average term of a Magisterial Assembly? ;)

Congratulations to Kandarin who has been appointed RP Moderator for the Office of Role-Play Affairs. :D

The Department of Interregional Affairs is pleased to welcome Algaisia as the newest member to the diplomatic fold. As his first posting, Algaisia has been assigned as Ambassador from the EP to The Great Land of the Moon. :)

UN Resolutions

Repeal "Definition of Marriage" - passed
Help Prevent Ozone Depletion - failed
UN Educational Aid Act - passed

In The Forums...

Help! Spamtopia is taking over the region with the addition of new games. We're just RP'ers. We don't know what to do with these ... things ... ;)

The EP Wiki is receiving more and more attention as people take a look and try to familiarize themselves with the process. Definitely a work in progress ...

In the Role-Play Arena...

Things have been quiet this last week as everyone heads back to school/college/university/work or prepares to do so.

Because of the bombing of Infinite Loop by the United States of Korea (sorry, I still have trouble with that name :P), the poor Shiro Academy students are definitely having a rough time of it! So far this year, they've had exactly one day of classes, which resumed after the threat of the Neko flu ended. From there, it was straight into the bunkers to avoid the bombs, and now they've all been shipped off to an alternate site in Free Pacific States. Now, does anything strike you as odd about this picture? It's August 30. What are the odds that anyone can pull off a single credit before the start of next year's classes?

The Delegate's Reception has so far pulled six new nations into our RP'ing. So far we've encountered a madwoman with a golf iron, a couple of drunks and a spy. In otherwords, everything is as normal for the East Pacific!

A new thread, Master and Apprentice, is off to a great start as the Kandarinese and FPS' "Mr. Star" compare results of a secret biological WMD. Fascinating of course until one realizes that the Kandarinese version is a character we've come to know and love in at least two other threads. Interesting turn of events ...

That's it for now from The East Pacific. As always, feel free to post any comments or questions, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. If you find that you're simply dying for news between now and my next report, please tune in to The East Pacific News Services.

Government

The first round of elections for the 4th Magisterial Assembly are over. Elected as Magisters to date are: Kelssek, Dovakhan, Kangarawa, Dannistan and Black Panther Cats. The next step in the process is the locking up of the new MA in order that they may elect a Consul. We've been assured that the rumoured fare of water, no bread, this time round, has been grossly exaggerated.

Edit: My head should be on a platter and I've been threatened with 50 lashes with a wet noodle! Also elected to the MA was Reziel! My apologies for the omission.

Codex, the 9th member of the East Pacific Forums, one of our administrators and Viceroy of the Regional Court, has tendered his resignation. He will remain as temporary Viceroy until someone else is appointed to the role. While we may well be able to find individuals to take on his responsibilities, it is extremely unlikely that we will ever be able to replace him. He will still be around the forum, but RL catches up to us all.

Algaisia, who was welcomed to the Department of Interregional Affairs in my last report, has had to resign due to RL committments. Why can't life be a game? ;)

In the Forums...

Its insidious presence is increasing! What started out as three games in the "Fun and Games" forum has suddenly mushroomed into twenty-six! Do you realise that each of these ... things ... has RULES? And that in order to play them properly, one is supposed to follow those RULES?

The Alternate Universe is a truly bizarre little place on the EP forums. "Second Thoughts?" is an off-the-wall list of role-play bloopers or alternate possibilities. Well worth a look if you have the time. :P

In the Role-Play Arena ...

After transferring all of the students to Tilden Island in FPS, life simply grows stranger at Shiro Academy! We now have a cocaine addict, a psionic void, a shaman trying to contain the psionic void and yet another student traced by e-mail by the country from which he and 10 000 others escaped. You'll be pleased to note, however, that we finally finished our second day of classes ... I think. ;)

A power struggle is emerging between the forces of the dark and the light in Foundations of Reziel. The Kandarinese are looking for a source of "That Old Black Magic", and seem to well on their way to finding it.

Please drop by and visit our role-play forums, "Inwardly Angled Hostilities".

That's it for now from The East Pacific. As always, please feel free to post any comments and/or questions and I'll be happy to answer them. If you find yourself at loose ends, and just dying for IC news of the EP over the next two weeks, tune in to the East Pacific News Services. If you can, try and find one of Kelssek's KBC World News Podcasts. I still can't figure out what he does to his voice, but it's hilarious! Unless ... nah ... can't be his real voice ...

Welcome to the Embassy of The East Pacific!

Government

On September 19, the 4th Magisterial Assembly met for the purpose of nominating and electing a Consul from amongst its members. The Consul is responsible for moderating discussions of the MA, calling votes on bills and, in general, ensuring the smooth running of the MA. In a close vote between Dovakhan and Kangarawa, Kangarawa was elected the new Consul of the 4th Magisterial Assembly after promising admin powers to all members of the MA.

The East Pacific is pleased to announce the opening of a new Consulate with the Alliance of The Federated States.

On the Off-Topic Forums ...

The "Fun and Games" forum continues to grow at an alarming rate, with the addition of even more games. ;)

"The Lounge", always a place to let off a little steam, has now become home to the addicting game of "Airport".

On the Role-Play Forums ...

Shiro Academy students have time-warped three months into the future and are finishing their first set of exams. Not bad ... Two days of classes, not even full days at that and now another holiday period approaching! Nice life, if you can handle the pace! :P

Foundation of Reziel drew to a close last week with the departure of all diplomats to their own countries. Diplomatic ties and friendships were formed.

War Games, a new thread, attempts to build upon the exchange of Military Installations discussed in the "Foundation of Reziel". The rogue Faction of one of the two governments involved, however, apparently has different ideas.

The 5th East Pacific Hockey Championships (EPHC 5) will be getting underway October 5th. Hosted this year by Free Pacific States, who definitely needs the home ice advantage, this promises to be yet another exciting year for hockey fans across the NS World! Several team rosters have already been posted, but many of the teams remain coy in terms of both rosters and point allocations...

That's it for this report of life in the East Pacific. As always, feel free to post comments and/or questions and I'll be more than happy to get back to you with the answers. Feel free to come by and say hello on the Forums.

My sincere apologies for the lateness of this report. With the Canadian Thanksgiving last Monday, I've been running around a day behind all week! Fortunately, I only managed to miss 3 appointments, instead of 6...

Welcome to the Embassy of The East Pacific!

Government

An act to amend the "Magisterial Assembly Act" by separating the legislative and executive branches of the government by removing the Delegate's right to cast the tie-breaking vote in the event of a tie vote by the magisters, was defeated. Ironically, it was a tie vote, so ... ;)

On October 10th, the Magisterial Assembly voted to confirm the appointment of Free Pacific States as Viceroy of the East Pacific upon the resignation of the incumbent Viceroy, Codex.

On October 13th, the Magisterial Assembly voted to confirm the appointment of Kandarin as RP Administrator of the East Pacific.

As mentioned in an earlier report, Codex, although still present in the East Pacific, will be sorely missed for his integrity, his humour and his wisdom, both as an individual and as Viceroy. Similarly, Free Pacific States has done an outstanding job as RP Administrator, and for such a superb RP'er to give up a position so near and dear to his heart could not have been an easy decision. He is, however, leaving the position in the hands of one of the best RP'ers in the East Pacific, Kandarin. Congratulations to both of them, and to the East Pacific. We're lucky to have them.

On the Off Topic Forums ...

As always, the Lounge is still a popular place to let off steam.

After six weeks, I've finally resigned myself to the fact that the number of games in the "Fun and Games" forum is simply going to continue to keep on growing! "Last One to Post Here Wins" is by far the most popular thread, but ... but ... hasn't anyone yet figured out that unless you're a mod, it's a no-win game? ;) With 35 games, however, there seems to be more than enough to keep everyone amused. :P

The EP Wiki is starting to grow and grow and grow ...

In the Role-Play Arena ...

In his usual inimitible fashion, Kandarin has started a thread comparing East Pacific Role Play to Cattle Politics. If any of you know many of the nations involved in EP RP, you'll get a kick out of his off-the-wall insight.

"War Games" seems to be heating up. Instead of regular troops, Marines have been sent to take part in the games against Reziel. Not only that, but it would appear that the Marines in question have been the test subjects of some sort of aggression-enhancing vaccine administered by the rogue Faction of the other government. Unwanted family reunions and mounting tensions on the eve of the games are making for a good read. At least, so I'm being told. I have a little trouble remaining unbiased. ;) :P

In "Shiro Academy", students are having a riot trying to bring Loop's character, Nei, up to speed on what's been going on. Actually, we're trying to bring Loop up to speed! ;) Apparently the last date she remembers is November 5, 1955, and is carrying around a picture of a Flux Capacitor. Only from Loop!

Only five teams entered the "EPHC 5" this year. Rumour has it that the reputation Coocoostan's Fighting Ibix established last year was enough to scare off all but the most intrepid. Granted, they are currently in first place, but the Kelssek Blueleafs are currently running a close second. We ... uh ... won't mention the nation from which the team in last place comes, but with players like Meadowlark Lemon, what can you expect? ;)

Other threads worth mentioning are "The Twin Grand Duchies" and, once it gets underway, "The Retiree Appreciation Banquet", in honour of Loop, Codex and FPS. Both of these threads can be found in "Inwardly Angled Hostilities".

That's it for this report from the East Pacific. As always, feel free to make comments, suggestions and/or ask questions and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Government

The Magisterial Assembly passed the "East Pacific Standard Time Act", and just voted to approve the "Feeder Summit Treaty" written predominantly by Haor Chall of TNP and discussed by representatives of the feeder regions, Lazarus and later on in the discussions, the RR, at the Feeder Summit. Our Delegate, Gnidrah, has now signed the Treaty.

Off Topic Forums ...

I still don't understand it. In our "Fun and Games" Forum, "Last One to Post Here Wins" has almost 1100 posts. Doesn't anyone else see a problem here? :duh:

Loop has damaged the relationship between each and every forum member and his/her aquarium for life with his thread, "The Truth about the Dreaded Guppy". Parental Guidance is advised. ;)

 In some cases, we're finding out far more about our members than we really wanted to know. Some of the reasons given for their Nation Name Choices are ... interesting ... to say the least!

In the RP Arena ...

Many of you will remember one of the EP's best RP'ers and smoothest talkers, Krechzianko. After a prolonged absence from NS, he's returned as Isla Platano, and talks about his new Banana Republic in the thread, "Scenes from the Island".

The results of the EPHC 2006 caused an absolute uproar! The Coocoostan Fighting Ibix, believed to be unbeatable, were defeated by the team with the home ice advantage, Free Pacific States! FPS placed last in EPHC 2005! An amazing comeback! Third place, ironically, went to the basketball stars of Kangarawa when they somehow defeated the Kelssek Blueleafs. Dannistaan placed last. Unfortunately, Dannistrian team Captain, Zah'orr Forr'sith was murdered by a Bai Lungese fan shortly after the final game between FPS and Coocoostan. And they say it's rough ON the ice ... ;)

For more RP news, "War Games", "Retiree Appreciation Banquet" and "Freedom Rings With the Coronation of a King", pop over and take a look at our RP forum, "Inwardly Angled Hostilities".

It seems only fitting that today, marking Remembrance Day, or Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I, Kelssek started a thread in "The Lounge" entitled "War Poems". May all those who served and who didn't come home be remembered. May we remember to thank all those who served.

Other topics in "The Lounge" include 'Lucid Dreaming' (I have figured out that I need to get to sleep first ... ;)) and 'NK goes Nuclear'.

Heaven is here to stay for those who love spamming games in the "Fun and Games" forum. :D

In the RP Arena ...

Three years ago, there was a conflict in the nation of Irem with a group of over 10 000 leaving the nation and finally settling in the East Pacific in the country of Reziel. "The Twin Grand Duchies" arises out of revenge and treason on the part of a group of the original Iremians. Thinking that they have traced the whereabouts of Grand Duke Reziel, they have deployed a massive armada to track him down, and have managed to involve five other nations using his name as well as create an international incident. Some of their lies and the lies of Airbus UK are about to come out into the open as Summit Talks begin in Dovakhan. Kudos to Bakostrovia, a new RP'er, for jumping into the thread.

For those of you who aren't getting quite enough hockey, "Winter of Discontent" may fill in some gaps. The respected hockey coach of the Coocoostan Red Menace and assistant coach of the national hockey league has quit over a conflict with ownership. He is now attempting to turn a barren team into a winning one.

The first day of planned "War Games" between the Archangels of Reziel and the Marines of Kangarawa went well, despite the duplicity on the part of the Kangarawan General in charge of organising the games. When one of the Marines has a "rage attack", and is subsequently murdered, and two others are diagnosed with similar symptoms however, a slew of frightening possibilities open up, and conspiracy theories abound.

Feel free to drop over and visit us on the forums. We seem to be suffering from an abundance of alcoholic squirrels, however, so just as a precaution, be sure to leave anything stronger than Loopian ale at home! ;)

Running true to form, here I am posting early this time, rather than late, but never exactly when I'm supposed to be! :P

As you are no doubt well aware, Server 1 at InvisionFree (IF) suffered a major crash and burn earlier in the week. As a result, TEP, at the decision of the admin, has been offline until this morning.

Even now, there have been TEMPORARY areas set up for RP, OOC discussions related to RP and off-topic postings. We've been asked not to post anywhere else. So far, IF has been able to recover the posts up to about March/06, but the latest word on the IF forum is that they are confident that they will be able to recover everything within one to two weeks.

At that point, the admin of TEP will merge the temporary posts with the pre-existing ones.

I must confess that I hadn't realised quite how often I checked in each day until there was nothing to check into ... I believe I'm in withdrawal! :bye:

As most of you are aware, Server 1 at InvisionFree is still down. When it crashed on November 15th, it was suggested that things should be up and running within 12 - 14 days. I know I'm out of fingers, and seem to be almost out of toes ... ;)

As it has been suggested that posting in broken threads is not a wise move, the Admin of TEP has set up temporary forums, one for updates, one for Government Communiques, one for Role-Play (seems I wasn't the only one in withdrawal :P) and one for OOC Role-Play. At present there are six RP threads attempting to pick up where they had left off prior to the crash, and we have still seen at least one new nation register on the forum!

When the crash occurred, our DefCon level reverted back to level 3 where it had been in early March, so unfortunately I'm unable to provide any links to the forum.

Kudos to our Admin team who have done all that they can to keep us up to date as to what is going on in the face of little output from IF.

Please keep your fingers crossed for both us and TSP who were also affected by the crash. With luck, we'll see the lost data restored ... sometime ... maybe. :eyeroll:

Seasons Greetings to all from The East Pacific!

On November 15, the day the giant IF meteor crashed down on Server 1 causing the great tsunami to wipe away much of our history of the last ten months, it was declared by IF that within twelve days the world, and our missing data, would be as we once knew it.

NEWS FLASH: It is now December 23rd. :P

It would appear that setting up the temporary forum was a brilliant move on the part of our admin team! (Just ... don't tell any of them that I said that ... we have a love/hate thing going ... ;))

Our tsunami survivors have made the temporary forums a refuge for our strongly knit family of chatters and role-players.

"Shiro Academy", now with temporary degrees of course, has reopened, picking up where it left off and three new students have appeared in the dorms.

The "Twin Grand Duchies", "War Games" and "Winter of Discontent" have also picked up where they left off. In "War Games", the time gap HAS created a wee bit of a problem as one of the two RPers seems to have forgotten the names of some of her own characters, but all threads are action packed and moving well! :D Anyone know of any herbal remedies for memory loss? Folic acid, perhaps? ;)

Seven other threads, some of them news feeds, others RP are also contained in the temporary RP forum, while ideas for even more RP threads abound in the temporary OOC RP forum.

Much as I'd love to be able to provide you with links, I'm still unable to do so.

To you and yours, my personal wishes for the best of the season, and the New Year.

As always, feel free to post any comments and/or questions. I'll get back to you as soon as I finish the rum balls possible. :P

Welcome to the Embassy of the East Pacific!

Government

Following the most recent announcement from InvisionFree, it would appear that the recovery of the data lost is not possible. Their announcement does make for an almost humourous read ...

Our forums will be reconstructed beginning sometime today and hopefully finished on Sunday January 21. All of the threads currently in the temporary forum will be integrated into their respective new categories. At present, until there's an opportunity to go through all of it, all pre-temporary material will be archived for referencing.

All of our best wishes are with Loop and Gnidrah and their merry bunch of administrators as they work this weekend. With luck, there should be no blood-letting ...

In the Role Play Arena ...

Remember the Pax? Resistance is futile ... you WILL be assimilated, and so on, and so on and so on? Packilvania has reappeared on the scene in a new thread, "Babel". To date, all leaders of EP nations, from tribal chieftains to the leaders of FPS, Kandarin and Kelssek have been summoned to a meeting in Rillanon, the capitol of TEP. Each was handed either a red folder or a blue folder. Reminiscent of anything? ;) Those handed red folders were told that they would be annexed by the Pax Empire. Those handed blue were given the option of becoming vassal states instead. General Tlant, leader of the Pax and a man of very few words, seemingly just wanted to know where each national leader stood on the issue ... :o

The war has finally begun between the Iremians and Airbus UK in "The Twin Grand Duchies" after Summit talks broke down in Dovakhan.

"The Elevator", a somewhat off-the-wall new thread, takes place in ... THE ELEVATOR! Every character, despite being in an incredible hurry to get to wherever s/he is going, is dedicated to stopping the thread from moving forward through IC means. :D

As always, should you have and questions or comments, please feel free to post them, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Update from the East Pacific

Ever looked at before and after pictures of a child's bedroom following a temper tantrum? Comparing the East Pacific forums of two weeks ago with what currently exists is remarkably similar. Our admin team has done an amazing job of restructuring the forum and tidying up at the same time ...

The behind-the-scenes work is still on-going, and doubtlessly will be for some time, but for the average citizen or visitor, the East Pacific forums are now fully operational! I feel as though I should be uncorking a bottle of champagne here ... ;)

Construction in Embassy Row is complete, and the decorators have finally left. Fresh paint, new furnishings and with luck, sturdy walls that will withstand any type of crash now stand on the tree-lined avenue. PMs welcoming either the MoFA or the Ambassador in each region with whom we have diplomatic ties have been left in their home regions to let them know that their "new" Embassies are now safe and ready for occupancy.

Government

In the Role Play Arena ...
"Shiro Academy" has seen the introduction of three new students, and the reemergence of two old-timers. Now in Liberty City to attend a social function on honour of Matt Terrus, Sr., the President of Free Pacific States (FPS), it would appear that Matt _______, one of the Shiroettes, may finally have to reveal his secret identity! :o

In a coup d'etat in "Shadow of the White Dragon II", the communist Republic of Bai Lung was taken over by nationalists. As the leader of Kelssek was heard to remark, "... so the evil communist dictatorship is replaced by psychotic nationalist slash fascist decapitators?" Bai Lung and the country of Dannistaan have always co-existed on rocky terms at best. The nationalists have fired cruise missiles into North Dannistaan resulting in retaliatory strikes. The Dannistrians now find themselves in the uncomfortable position of inadvertently aiding a communist regime which they detest in order to deter the nationalists.

The "Razor's Edge" is a new counter-espionage thread. A lone, female agent of the Cheka (think of the initial Soviet secret police) from Coocoostan is said to be operating as a junior officer in the FPS Navy. This is more or less both a character and a national RP. Where it goes from here is anyone's guess.

Get ready and hold on to your seats! Bids are underway for hosting the 6th East Pacific Hockey Championships! To date, only Coocoostan and Dannistaan have submitted bids, but rumour has it ...

For more on these and other role plays, visit "Inwardly Angled Hostilities", our RP forum.

Why thank you, Dalimbar. It's good to be back visiting here, again.

As for the forum, yes, I'm glad things are operational again. There for a while, I was really nervous about forum activity due to the forum crash. But things are picking back up and headed in the right direction, so I'm satisfied with that. Of course, there is more work yet to be done. But we've got the important parts squared away, fortunately enough.

Oh, and love the pink, by the way.
