Now this is a bit much...

I realize we (the NPIA) are doing about the same thing with the sign-up topic, but then this is a game...

But has anyone else seen the TV advertisements from the CIA where they're quite obviously trying to look for new employees/agents? :eyeroll:

Outside the US, so I'm unlikely to see one (they're not recruiting in Europe right? ). Can someone describe it?

I admit I read a recruitment poster once - "foreign language instructor" or something like that (I was born in the US, which appears to be a requirement).

I read as far the polygraph test and broke down. Seriously, what is it with Americans' belief in the reliability of these things? :P

Apart from that, the background check would have revealed that I think Bush is a chimpanzee and that I have played subversive, communist internet games which include politics. And have debated about the Iraq war. Vigorously, in fact. So I guess that kills my life-long dream of being a spy.

I would hope they aren't...

We had the sound muted (probably a good thing), but it's this really weird commercial that looks like a Picasso in motion... there's this "robotic fly" that flies around watching people, and every now and then you see some other espionage equipment "cleverly" disguised a some other animal - last I saw was a fish with a rather obvious antenna sticking out of it's head. Then it switches to the CIA logo, with the CIA's website (www.cia.gov, if anyone cares), and the very helpful statement "An Equal Opportunity Employer."

My dad works somewhere where you need a security clearance - which involves one of those things - he's heard stories where the person goes in to take their test to renew their clearance, and they fail. The guards doing the test know full well this person isn't lying, so they do it again (right there), and they pass the second time around. :eyeroll: If they're not admissable in court, why do they still use it in the government?

Wow. That just tops it. So not only is the polygraph about as accurate as a skilled hand-reader, but they actually let you test again until you pass? What use is it?

Oh, and the "Equal Opportunity Employer" line was on the poster too...

I love how it has a "Say no to drugs" when the CIA doesn't really care that much about it, sometimes it is a good thing depending on the field they have in mind for you. :shifty:
