Closing Address - July 2026
Friends, colleagues, and fellow TNPers,
Goodness gracious, is it the end of the term already? I still have a hard time processing it. While I have only sat in this office for 21 days, it was nevertheless 21 days packed with action and excitement, as the Ministry prepared for and later witnessed the greatest changes to the WA since its founding in 2008. 862 resolutions archived, a blank slate of international legislation, the WA Secretariat, a new Adoption/Compliance mechanism, new rules and concepts; it feels like the dawn of a new age. At the beginning of my tenure, I identified four priorities for the Ministry not only to excel in its duties, but also to adapt to revolutionary circumstances brought forth by the GA reset. At this stage, I'm happy to say that we have fulfilled those fundamental priorities, and successfully advanced our interests in the post-reset GA.
The implementation of an IFV claims thread has allowed for systemic tracking and pre-planning of IFVs, resulting in their timely production and delivery. Our operations have since settled into a regular and predictable schedule of posting a voting thread 2 days before voting and writing an IFV 1 day before voting, giving the Ministry ample room to prepare and publish IFVs when a proposal comes to vote, the most important time to get them out. Under my watch, the Ministry has not missed a single resolution, and we have largely been successful at pushing IFVs out early through telegrams and RMB posts, getting around 70-100 views and 15-20 upvotes on each.
The GA reset provides a rare opportunity for new TNP authors to make their mark, and our Guaranteed Sponsorship program has received renewed attention from WAA staffers, with several new applicants signing up for it. Currently, we have 9 proposals in the drafting process, three of which have been posted on the forums and one of which is in queue, and 2 additional proposal ideas under development. I'm particularly excited to see our slavery ban proposal become the first Guaranteed Sponsorship resolution to be passed.
Prior to the GA reset, elections for the WA Secretariat opened on June 24th-25th. With incredible tenacity and coordination, the government nonetheless mobilised our support and successfully elected Islandwalk to the office, greatly increasing our reach and influence in the new GA. TNP now has a large platform to advance our interests and ensure our authors are properly supported, which is a great achievement. While this wasn't one of the Ministry's priorities at the time, since we thought the election was still some time away, WA Affairs did everything we could to assist this enormous undertaking, and I'm proud of the contributions we have made.
The new GA Adoption/Compliance mechanism introduced a new element to WA engagement, where member-nations must actively adopt at least 80% of the proposals to keep their votes. Yes, presently the threshold is 0% due to the low number of resolutions, but site admins have confirmed that they will gradually raise it back to the original once the resolution roster becomes longer. Early on, I recognised that this feature might result in member-nations losing their votes due to not wanting or too lazy to adopt resolutions. I sought to address this by designing a new WADP dispatch regarding GA compliance, and now it is waiting to be published on our regional nation. Looking at the low rates of adoption for Daybreak and National Sovereignty, I think this issue will need to be more broadly and comprehensively addressed next term to maintain our voting power.
Lastly, I'm very pleased with how active the Ministry are at present. The GA reset, the opportunities offered by Guaranteed Sponsorship, and the IFV scheduling reforms have fostered a more energetic and engaged staff. I want to thank @Inevitable Poverty, @KGR and @Josi in particular for stepping up a lot to write our recent IFVs. @Voopmont and @Cretox have also been immensely helpful as Deputy Ministers, offering valuable advice and guidance to Ministry staffers and proposal authors. Truly, your services are what make this Ministry so great and fun to serve in.
Based on data provided by @Kaschovia, the Ministry published 46 IFVs this term, with @Voopmont being our most prolific writer at 16, followed by @KGR (8) and @Inevitable Poverty (6). Congratulations and thank you, staffers, for your service!
