December Presidential Election Sees Moon Rise Over The Republic by Malaxa

With a convincing 73% of the vote, the ticket of Moon and Grea Kriopia saw off the challenge from Gem and Kazaman in the recently concluded Presidential election. Running on a theme of “Equivalent Exchange”, the duo had strong momentum reflected in polls taken shortly after the contest was officially kicked off and managed to carry it through to victory. This is Moon’s first ever term as President of our Republic but features the return of a familiar face in Grea Kriopia as VP, having served in that role during the administration of UPC. As stated in their opening address, the region will “do what we've done best for the last two decades; survive and thrive.”

Senate Highlights by JayDee II

The Weighted Voting Amendment passed the Senate shortly before the New Year with four Senators voting in favor of the reform with Senator Lloenflys being the only dissenting vote. Speaker Malaxa presented the passed bill to President Moon who sent the bill to a referendum for the region to decide. With popular support, the bill seemed likely to pass, but spirited debate from dissenters such as Lloenflys, Peeps, and McEntire as well as pushback from people dissatisfied with the bill meant it fell well short of the necessary 50% to pass, failing with 13 voting in favor and 29 voting against.

Senator JayDee fulfilled his platform promise of delivering a revised Criminal Code which saw to update the law to align with the Senate’s Legislative Style guide and made some minor additions as well to the law. Debate on the floor was slow, but progress was stalled after Comfed came forward in the Grand Hall with concerns. Despite support within the Senate, the Criminal Code remains in reading and has been passed to the next Senate to decide its fate.

A Leek? No! A Leak!! by JayDee II

Shortly into President Moon’s term, First Citizen Domais of Lazarus released a statement in NSGP announcing that Lazarus would be repealing the Treaty of Styx with Europeia in light of what they claimed to be an bad faith attacks by the Europeian administration after failing to disclose a potential security threat for nearly six months.

President Moon published his response in the Goldenblock the next day, confirming that A Mean Old Man, Delegate of The East Pacific, and the Lazarene government had received intel that Amalteia, former MoWAA of Europeia and a member of Europeia’s EAAC, was actually Ernest Drake. However, both parties failed to share this intelligence with Europeia, claiming they wished to verify the information before sharing.

Due to the exchange, President Moon declared AMOM, Ernest Drake, and several members of the Lazarene government as Persona Non Grata, meaning they will be unable to gain citizenship or serve as Ambassadors to Europeia for any region.
