Hello everyone!

I noticed we needed a fresh spot for some casual conversation, so I decided to open this thread. Whether you want to talk about your day, share what’s on your mind, or just drop a quick 'hello', you're more than welcome here!

To get things started: How is everyone’s week going so far? And what’s one thing that made you smile today?

Looking forward to some great chats with all of you!

I'm about to embark on a hellish travel experience. I'll be flying with my girlfriend from Hong Kong to Doha to Madrid to Lima. That's a 9 hour flight followed by a 7 hour flight followed by a 12 hour flight. With about 100 kg of total luggage.
Traveling is wonderful. Enjoy it.

Let me tell you about my night. I have a pretty big Steam library. I'm trying to work out how to back everything up (two times over, because it's best practice to never have just one backup), and save bandwidth should I have an urge to play a game that I haven't played in a while. I'm also trying to do this without spending any more money. I have a couple of storage servers, but they can't each independently store my entire library.

Some games are just not going to have redundant storage. Ark: Survival Evolved (a gigantic game, 300+ GBs!!!) is going to be one of those vulnerable games. I've never played it, but it landed in my library during a promotion where it was free.

Which game do you play the most?

Not gonna lie. I hate where you need to pay for games then download them onto your computer

EA says The Sims 4.
Steam says Space Engineers.
Recently, though, it's been Mechwarrior 5, both Mercs and Clans

I only have one perfect game on Steam, Clustertruck, and two games missing one achievement, To The Core and Poker Night 2.

I think it's now possible to create some really great AI-powered games.
There's a story-driven game that was released in August called Whispers from the Star that is entirely AI driven. You have to talk (actually use your voice) to give the game's main character instructions, the game converts your instruction into a prompt that it sends to ChatGPT, and the response drives what the character says or does.

I don't have it. I'm not going to get it. I think the concept is creepy. I am just acknowledging its existence to let you know that what you said is already out in the wild.

I'm curious. I'll research this game. Is there a limit to the amount of time you can spend talking? Do you have to pay a fee constantly?

In my opinion, EU5 is one of the best games you can play right now. I don't have a computer suitable for it, but I recommend it; the game is excellent.

I have no idea.
“The AI-driven conversation experience in the game is fully generative, meaning it responds to your inputs in real time rather than following preset dialogue trees. However, according to community reports, there are daily limits on playable AI interaction time. One player reports that conversations and calls with Stella are limited to approximately 40–60 minutes per day, which becomes especially noticeable after completing the main storyline.”

I’m a bit surprised, to be honest :D

It feels like threads that actually try to start a discussion tend to go quiet, while spam-style topics get all the attention.

Don’t get me wrong activity is good. But are we really competing over who can post the most messages by just dropping numbers, or are we here to actually talk, argue a bit, exchange ideas, and enjoy the forum?

I’m not complaining, just genuinely curious. I’d personally prefer fewer messages with substance over endless posts that say nothing. If that’s an unpopular opinion, fair enough but I figured this was worth saying.

Anyway, I’m always up for real discussion. If anyone else is, this thread is still open

Admittedly, general discussion is just more convenient over Discord, as those conversations happen in a more real-time mode, almost as if you were speaking to someone in-person. The RMB is also kind of a half-way in-between the Forum and Discord for conversational convenience. A lot of stuff you find on the forum is more centered around government business or roleplaying.

The spam games are kind of a tool to maintain citizenship, since we require posting here or the RMB once every 30 days to maintain citizenship. They're just an easy way to get a post in.

Yes, I agree. Forums were very popular when I was a child. We couldn't keep up with the speed at which topics and messages were shared. Over time, their popularity decreased. Instant messaging applications gained importance.
