Repeal: “Protecting Press Freedoms”
Category: Repeal | GA #644
Proposed by: Varanius, Co-authored by: Kavagrad, Feux, Rhaza | Onsite Topic
Replacement: None

General Assembly Resolution #644 “Protecting Press Freedoms” (Category: Education and Creativity; Area of Effect: Free Press) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

The World Assembly,

Critically concerned by the innate vagueness of clause 1’s prerequisites for the prevention of reporting, with neither “necessary for the wellbeing of society” nor "of interest to the public” being defined terms or even remotely measurable;

Horrified by subclause 3.a., which exempts journalists and news organizations (both undefined in the target) from any civil or criminal penalties not outlined in other unspecified World Assembly regulations, even if that content is produced via actual malice;

Disappointed in the whole of clause 4’s restrictions, mandating content warnings and permitting the restriction of content in accordance with what is “suitable for minors” or “inappropriate for consumption by minors” with no guidelines as to what that content may be, allowing news organizations to argue that any number of things are or are not culturally acceptable for minors and so prohibit their transmission;

Troubled by clause 4’s decision to mandate the creation of content warnings absent any additional guidelines, giving way for potential abuse or neglect in this regard by the press;

Finding GA#644 to be woefully inept at outlining the freedoms of the press much less protecting them, and critically overbearing in those areas which allow the government to limit misinformation,

Hereby repeals GA#644 “Protecting Press Freedoms”.
