Chipoli 4 Vice Delegate

Introduction

It was not my original plan to run for Vice Delegate in this election cycle. After taking a break from the government, I intended to set my attention exclusively on a different area of our region. However, after watching the nominations period play out, I felt like I had a duty to my home to step up once more in this role. This campaign will not be structured like my previous ones - I was a different player when I crafted them. The position where I stand now, along with the fact that this platform was put together on very short notice, means that it will be a much, much more concise version than what you’re used to seeing from me. To put it simply, I won’t promise the world or try to reinvent the wheel. The position of the Vice Delegate is one that requires stability and an experienced hand. As a three-time former Vice Delegate and the most recent elected Delegate, I have more than enough of it to serve you all capably. And with that said, I would like to make myself available as an option for the next four months.

Prior Service

The majority of this community knows who I am, but I won’t keep our newer players out in the cold by not giving them an introduction.

I am Chipoli, first of all! Nice to meet you. I’ll give you folks an idea of my career of service here in TNP. My first major role was as the Minister of World Assembly Affairs, a position I held two separate times. In it, I was responsible for enforcing our agenda in regards to the World Assembly. Later on, I also served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs for five months under Delegates Simone and Picairn. I have served for a joint record of three terms as Vice Delegate, and have been on our regional security council for almost two years. I also served as your region’s Delegate in an “Acting” capacity from August to September 2023, and was elected to two terms a couple of years later, serving from January to August of this year. Some of my more minor roles include serving as Deputy Speaker, Election Commissioner, Gameside Advocate, and a Deputy Minister in Foreign Affairs and World Assembly Affairs.

Endorsement Situation

Our endorsements have been going up and down as of late, and have been quite inconsistent. Our endorsement situation showed plenty of promise early in the calendar year, as we made progress by managing to steadily increase our endorsements. However, the summer slump was a brutal one and eroded much of our progress as our WA population continued to tumble. As it has approached its end, we are beginning to see signs of improvement again, and I hope that we can get it up to previous levels. We need to build on our culture of exchanging endorsements and encourage folks to bolster our regional vote. We have tools at our disposal, such as dispatches that alert those to slack off in endorsing our regional security officials. I will also work with our folks over in Integration, along with Gameside Advocates, to promote the culture I discussed earlier. Being in the World Assembly and being a meaningful member in it needs to become the new normal. Everyone in the region has to pitch in.

Weekly Endorsement Events

This was an initiative I conducted in my earlier tenures, and I will be bringing it back. They will be spread out over the course of the term, and are intended to gradually build up both Ruben’s endorsements, along with my own. Additionally, they would hopefully bring our region more WA nations in a time when they are desperately needed. How they work is as follows: every week, I will post a weekly endorsement goal in publicly available places such as the WFE or the Vice Delegate’s weekly report. If that goal is met, there will be a reward for meeting it; examples include a free legendary card or being able to change the regional flag for a few days (to something appropriate, of course!). An incentive will make the idea of joining the World Assembly more enticing and will encourage more individuals to get out there and do so.

Weekly Reports

I will continue the tradition of the Vice Delegate’s weekly report, which will provide the region transparency on what is going on in the Council Chambers. Information will include, but not be limited to, our plans for the future, statistics on security checks for the week, possible security threats, and data that represents our current endorsement situation. It is my intention to publish these reports once a week on a consistent basis, whether it be on a Sunday, Monday, etc.

Prepared for Emergency

Delegates resigning in the middle of their terms has become a more popular course of action in recent years. (Trust me, I would know) I am very confident in stating that I would be more than prepared to step up as the next person up in the line of command, having been thrust into this position more than once, and having been elected as your Delegate twice. So, if there is a Delegate emergency, you can count on me to fill in the meantime.

Other Basics

If I’m elected, a transition would not happen, as I am already in second place for endorsements and am a good bit behind the current Delegate as well. It’s safe to say I am in a good position in that regard. Having been a deputy speaker and a three-term Vice Delegate, I am familiar with what to look for when processing citizenship applications, and can reject potential security threats when needed. In my capacity as Vice Delegate, I will be a member of the next Delegate’s cabinet, more than likely. Vice Delegates have typically been afforded that privilege, and I don’t remember an instance when it was denied.

Activity

Given my recent resignation as Delegate, naturally some will have questions and enquire as to why I am taking on another elected position. My resignation was looking out for TNP in the long-term, but myself in the short term. When I’m burned out, a “short” break is often enough before I’m itching to get my hands dirty again. My schedule is similar to what it was in my first full term as Delegate, and having experienced the difficulty of that position, I’m confident that I can handle being the Vice Delegate.

Conclusion

Thank you for taking the time to read my platform! I’ll keep my message short and sweet: I’m capable of serving as your Vice Delegate - I know what to expect of the role and know what the people expect of me. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about my candidacy or my platform. I hope that I’ve earned your vote!

This is a strong and comprehensive platform. I am glad to see you run for office again.

I must say I was surprised to see you run for office so soon after your resignation, although I'm glad it's someone who's experienced that's stepping up. I've got a couple of questions, though.

Do you see yourself run again in the next election, even if a newer person would like to give the job a shot?

I'm sure it's no secret that you're an experienced member of cabinet and thus would be considered for a role on the Executive Council. How would you balance your duties with those in the executive, should you be appointed, and those in the Security Council? I was often criticised for prioritising my role as Chief of Staff instead of that of Vice Delegate, so I'm curious how you would handle such criticism.

That depends. If someone else would like to run for Vice Delegate, someone who has sufficient ability or experience, then I would happily step aside. I ran to provide the region with an experienced option for the position in the short-term, but that could change - I'm not gonna make any commitments yet.

I will prioritize the position where I'm needed at a certain time. The Vice Delegate's position is often reactionary, depending on the security issues our region faces. A cabinet position, is not, however. I have experience balancing a cabinet job and the Vice Delegacy - I did so two years ago. In this campaign, I also made it a point not to promise the moon, so I wouldn't feel pressured to complete my promises while serving in the cabinet - this term will be focused almost solely on the fundamentals.

Thank you for your answers. Full support from me. I'm looking forward to serving side by side again, Chip.

How the turns have tabled

Can you clarify why you didn’t have time to finish the term as Delegate, but now want to be Vice Delegate? Maybe I missed an announcement or something, so apologies if I’m missing some context here.

As I mentioned in my platform, part of the season I resigned was to improve the future of the region long-term and to regain some energy in the short-term - something which I believe transpired. It was never my intention to take a prolonged break from our government. After having a chance to get some rest and recover from burnout, I figured that after having one of the hardest jobs in the realm of NationStates, I can handle the position of Vice Delegate.
