Office of the Delegate of The North Pacific

To Victory

To all North Pacificans and the world,

We have achieved victory over the Brotherhood of Malice.

Nearly two years ago, our Regional Assembly recognised that a state of war existed between The North Pacific and the Brotherhood of Malice, triggered by their audacious invasion of our homeland. We stood firm against their bullying tactics and relentless hatred of our freedom, pledging to protect those we hold close to our hearts. This conflict brought our region together against a common adversary, one that defied the peaceful order of our shared community and refused to stop antagonising us, our friends, and innocent regions who only wanted to find their own happiness and purpose. In the end, our resolve proved greater than theirs. There may have been a time when both sides of this conflict could say that they were willing to continue this conflict as long as it took, but it was they who broke first. They scorned true alliances and bonds, sought the enmity of the world, and thrived in chaos and pain; as a result, they had no one to truly rely on when confronted with our united front and our unshakeable bonds. We stood up for our friends, we fought together, and we gave them no quarter, not in diplomacy and ultimately not on the battlefield.

Our sanctions worked. For all the protestations and the mockery, they could not advance in the World Assembly, and their monuments crumbled. Those who orbited them could not pursue their own interests there without paying a price for their tolerance of the intolerable. And in the end, this strain broke many of their would-be allies, some of whom they chose to destroy in consequence, further reducing their chances of longevity, and revealing how transactional and petty they truly were. While they threw away the few allies they had when times got tough, we resolved our differences with defenders and became part of the greatest military coalition the game has ever seen, dealing decisive defeats to their sphere. In the end, this overwhelming strength proved too much for them, and they fled back into obscurity, as we had predicted would happen when this conflict began over three years ago.

The Brotherhood of Malice was the architect of their own undoing. The journey we have all been on since 2022 could have ended very differently if they had not taken the destructive, foolish path that they chose. For most of its existence, the North Pacific has been a proud Independent region and has opted not to choose one side of the R/D divide. As we have always done, we chose the best path for us and our people, responding to the dynamics in gameplay. When former raider partners crossed a line and hit our longtime ally Stargate, we broke off relations, and we forged a bold new path that led us more toward defenders. This could have been resolved in time. When the Brotherhood of Malice resurfaced, they were the only raiding organisation of note not involved in the Stargate events, and could have forged some kind of partnership with us. They chose instead to quietly resent and rebuke us for our recent course as charted in our statement “On Alignment.” These bad feelings, which they never articulated to us in our initial conversations, led to their refusal to respect our allies and our process for forming embassies, and their first, of many, raids of our ally, Stargate. In response to this outrageous aggression, we led the effort to repeal the condemnation of their leader. In response to repeated aggression against Stargate, we formed the first multi-lateral military pact of its kind, the Pax Polaris Occidens (PPO), and forged the closest ties we have ever had with two regions we historically had strained relations with in the past.

In turn, our talks turned to further cooperation, and given the strong mutual ties between The West Pacific and our historical allies, Europeia and Balder, we formed a new independent coalition, the Modern Gameplay Compact, which brought two distinct spheres of the game together for the first time. When our adversaries sought to subvert our ally Balder with their ill-conceived and poorly executed Operation Ragnarok, we worked to rally the world against them and tore down long-standing relations with Osiris for their decision to stand by them. And when they rebuffed attempts to come to some kind of understanding, and struck again at Stargate and then Equilism, we established the sanctions that would prove to escalate the conflict in new dimensions that had scarcely been seen in this game’s history.

For almost a year, our sanctions ran their course, and we learned which regions of the world would join us in confronting Malice’s aggression and disruption of our collective community’s order, and which were content to let the chaos play out. At several intervals, the conflict could have been resolved, but Malice was content to continue antagonising and encouraging their allies to do the same, causing the diplomatic networks of The Black Hawks and The Communist Bloc to shrivel and those regions to become glorified subsidiaries of Malice. As a consequence, when Frontiers and Strongholds took shape, The Communist Bloc found themselves injuncted and without a reliable governor to fully secure their region. As always, the consequences of their own actions were blamed on others, and they ultimately collaborated with The Brotherhood of Malice to invade The North Pacific on August 27, 2023 and tip our delegate. A blatant act of war such as that required swift and resolute action, and in short order, our regional assembly officially recognised that a state of war existed between our regions. The full range of our military and diplomatic forces were now unleashed on these regions. Our allies followed suit, and we rallied to fight them explicitly in the field of battle in addition to our prior diplomatic efforts.

The most significant act of the war occurred within its first month, when our coalition destroyed The Communist Bloc’s frontier Solidarity in October 2023. Their spirit was further crushed with the repeal of their other leader’s condemnation that same year and the dual repeals of The Black Hawks’ condemnations in late 2024. A single-update raid of Europe led by The Black Hawks in February 2024, where they purged half the residents of the region, only served to tighten the sanctions and add their ally Sparkalia to the list, which ultimately led to the loss of Sophia from their network later that year and increased the negative impact on the outer edges of their network. Their best opportunity to deal a similar blow to us, the invasion of The Wellspring, was called off in May 2024 when they realised the numbers we had amassed to counter their effort, ending the battle before it even began. The massive victories earlier this year in Lonia Kreptia Llor, Dystopian Utopia, and Federation of Sovereign States further cemented the impossibility of their situation. The departure of The Communist Bloc from the NSLeft following their inability to negotiate with their partner regions in getting Solidarity back guaranteed that leftist piling options would cease to be a possible benefit for the Malice sphere, and further diminished The Communist Bloc's flagging influence. Because the Brotherhood of Malice antagonised the new frontier regions rather than build on that front, regions like Talonia joined the MGC and participated in the liberations that swept away their hope of military victory. And because they avoided competing for one of the new sinker regions late last year, they found the numbers skewed even more against them. Their inability to invest in region-building or alliances proved to be fatal. They had no friends to call on, no diplomatic efforts to help get them through the lean times. Faced with inevitable defeat and a prolonged period of isolation, they effectively surrendered instead.

The Brotherhood of Malice was an organisation that aspired to be the most evil and uncompromising in the world. It considered everyone a potential target unless they capitulated and formally committed to them through a treaty at the end of a blade. We always rejected these strong-arm tactics and rallied as many like-minded regions as we could to reject this attempt to ransom the world and reshape it around themselves. History will show that they bent their knee and succumbed to the world we created together, one that refused to let them call the shots. They were the ones who yielded. The Brotherhood of Malice is now a footnote in this game’s history. The North Pacific and our coalition continue to stand firm as a beacon of hope, freedom and self-determination for all the nations in this game. Our light shines through the darkness, which now shrinks and retreats, and illuminates the path forward toward a brighter future.

This administration would like to thank the citizenry for never losing hope. This region is only as strong as its inhabitants, and it has been proven by all of you that we do not falter when faced with a crisis. We would like to thank the North Pacific Army for its relentless pursuit of the war effort on the battlefield, where it spearheaded several victories for our cause and assisted in many others. We also appreciate our diplomats, who fought tirelessly with the pen as hard as our soldiers fought with the sword. Lastly, we would like to thank our allies for standing by us in these dark times. War in the North is a rare sight to behold, but we must recognise when war is necessary and when we must unlock every tool and resource at our disposal to engage in it. We appreciate that we will always be able to rely on the commitment of our friends and allies, who have demonstrated these past three years how committed and loyal they truly are, and whose support we will not soon forget, and will repay in kind. In the days ahead, we will work with these allies to determine how to adjust and redirect our sanctions and military orders. The war we recognised may be over in light of these recent events, or it may take on a different shape. We must evaluate what the new reality is, and then, in consultation with our Regional Assembly, determine how to adjust, if such adjustment is necessary.

Malice may be gone, but the war and the conflict surrounding it do not automatically end as well. We are still in a state of war with The Communist Bloc, who remain unrepentant and defiant even now, and have thrown away all efforts to make peace and make up for the wrong they caused. And the Brotherhood of Malice had many client states. No matter how these regions scramble and contort themselves into new shapes, no matter what political tricks they employ, we will remember what they did these past three years. We will remember that when they had the chance, they chose to make themselves nothing but a number, extensions of Malice. Many of them betrayed their friends, threw away opportunities for cooperation, and corrupted their convictions. And if they try to sidestep this history, to deny these transgressions, we will not let them get away with it. The North Pacific can forgive, but we will not forget. We will not yield like Malice has, and if any of their followers or future imitators seek to repeat what they have done, we will be there to bring an end to it. The Malice sphere is crumbling to dust, and we will not allow anyone to empty the dustbin of history.

Signed,
