Repeal "Asbestos Consumption, Disposal and Worker Protection”
Category: Repeal | GA#435
Proposed by: Moduland | Forum Topic
Replacement: Fibrous Mineral Safety Act

The General Assembly,
Acknowledging the importance of Asbestos Consumption, Disposal and Worker Protection, hereafter referred to as ACDWP, in establishing safety requirements for the use of asbestos related materials;

Praising the reasonable removal and safety requirements listed in the ACDWP;

Concerned that the ACDWP was limited in scope and does not provide protections or requirements for similar fibrous minerals in member states that could potentially pose a health risk and may be present in construction materials in member states;

Believing a broader scope regulating fibrous minerals could alleviate the aforementioned concerns;

Noting that there are no requirements within the ACDWP to inspect established public buildings for asbestos containing materials or other potentially dangerous fibrous minerals;

Nervous that the lack of inspection requirements creates the possibility that friable asbestos containing materials remain in place in public buildings;

Further confused about timing of Section 3 which states the resolution would come "...into force by 6 years after the enactment of this resolution" as various member states use various calendars which are not always consistent in length;

Hoping a new resolution is drafted which addresses these concerns.

Hereby repeals Asbestos Consumption, Disposal and Worker Protection.
