Diesel Emissions Act
Category: Environmental | Industry Affected: Automotive
Proposed by: Fort Chaffee | Onsite Topic
The World Assembly,
Knowing that Diesel engines emit significantly higher emissions than conventional combustion engines;
Understanding that diesel engines make up a large portion of all vehicles, especially commercial vehicles;
Concerned that without action, harmful emissions will continue to be put into the air affecting the environment; and
Hoping that further strides can be made to reduce emissions by using different fuels to power said vehicles;
Hereby enacts as follows;
- For the purpose of this resolution, Ultra low sulfur diesel will be defined as any diesel fuel that has less than 15 parts per million of sulfur. Diesel Exhaust Fluid is a fluid used in the exhaust tailpipe to reduce emissions by turning the harmful gases into water and nitrogen. Diesel Particulate Filters are used in the exhaust system and used to filter out the soot produced by diesel engines;
- All member nations must use ULSD and DEF for all new diesel vehicles. Each member nation will implement this throughout fuel stations in member nations. In the case a WA nation requires funding for such renovations, the WA General fund will provide it. To oversee implementation for all technologies, the International Automobile Emissions Commission will be re-established to oversee and coordinate the implementation of all emissions devices;
- All diesel vehicles must use DEF and have DPF in their exhaust systems to minimize the release of sulfur dioxide and soot into the environment;
- All new diesel vehicles imported to or made in a member nation must implement this technology into their vehicles. Any vehicles that can have any of these technologies listed above implemented shall do so as soon as the technologies become available in the member nation;
- In the case a consumer removes or alters any of these emissions systems, they will incur a fine and will be required to reimplement the altered system to meet the emissions standards. In the case an emissions system becomes damaged or broken, it will be on the consumer to replace the emissions system;
- If technology becomes available, such as natural gas or electric powered vehicles, to reduce the emissions further than said methods above, a member nation will be encouraged to use said methods.
Note: Only votes from TNP WA nations, NPA personnel, and those on NPA deployments will be counted. If you do not meet these requirements, please add (non-WA) or something of that effect to your vote. If you are on an NPA deployment without being formally registered as an NPA member, name your deployed nation in your vote.
