Repeal: “World Assembly Central Library Compact”
Category: Repeal | Target: GA#397
Proposed by: Fachumonn | Onsite Topic
The General Assembly,
Acknowledging the intent to archive and preserve written works for the international public through GA#397 "World Assembly Central Library Compact",
However finding that the resolution exhibits problems that render the resolution devoid of its original goal,
Annoyed that the presence of a central library in the multiverse is an issue because such space is slow, disadvantageous, and inefficient for a majority of the 20,000 member-states that make up this body, and is made further unreasonable when it is realized this inconvenience means that it is likely not being used in a way worth the resources consumed,
Distraught that the target resolution requires "adequate" transport from this hub and central library to member-states while designating this task to the Office of Building Management, not considering that it is simply not possible for one committee to manage and create transportation for many thousands of member-states, leading to an extremely costly endeavour,
Concerned that the target resolution necessitates member-states to "adopt standards governing the preservation, restoration, and security of historical, cultural or important works", which is counterproductive because not only could a member-state easily set their standards as low as possible under this provision, but, since there is no specificity, useless, as nations already set standards regarding these practices,
Reasoning that this resolution has a similar premise to GA#78 “Universal Library Coalition”, whose universal library and overall network hosts truly accessible copies of works that cater to the tremendous diversity of World Assembly member-states, rendering this resolution redundant with respect to its educational, cultural, and informational aims,
Recognising that while the purpose of GA#397 “World Assembly Central Library Compact” may have been to protect prized information and works, the resolution does not adequately solve this goal, and instead of letting member-states develop collections by themselves, the resolution creates an unnecessary library that fails to accomplish its unrealistic vision,
Maintaining that this resolution, due to its many flaws, needs to be repealed, so
Hereby Repeals GA#397 “World Assembly Central Library Compact”.
