And...we are here.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my predecessor @St George for helping to steady the ship and doing a great job in resolving many pressing issues that we have faced over the past month. I would also like to @Pallaith and @Gorundu for putting their faith in me to be the new Foreign Minister. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead this Ministry and a wonderful group of staffers as we move into this F/S era proper and deal with the ongoing issues at hand.
I am also very satisfied with the current pool of Deputy Ministers and the work they have contributed to the discussion of issues concerning the Ministry, and I would like to announce that I am reappointing @Treekidistan @Attempted Socialism and @Bobberino as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Please take your oaths.
The main theme of my term will be to build a community-led approach to Foreign Affairs. This means that the larger TNP community, especially the staffers we employ, are going to take a much bigger role in helping us expand our Foreign Affairs outreach and participating in discussions around certain issues.
The first point of interest would be the role of ambassadors. I believe that it is important to keep our ambassadors continuously engaged with the communities of our embassy regions, and that through a stint at a region, they should be able to increase their understanding of the given region. While I am keen to push for the return of the Ambassadors Reports, I find it to be overly clunky and unsuitable when it comes to more RP-oriented regions as well. The compromise I am suggesting is something I would call an Ambassador's Digest. Ambassadors would still be required to give report updates about their region, but we will cut down the length and requirements of such reports. Instead, the frequency of such reports will be increased to once every two weeks, with faster intervals required for some of our allied regions & partners. This would allow our ambassadors to play their role in helping to bring timely news from abroad back to share with the rest of the Ministry, while giving them more time to engage with their assigned regions. Such Digests can come in small pieces of bite-sized information, and even can be as short as one sentence with some links, such as "This region has passed ammendments to their Regional Charter to allow non-WA residents to apply to be citizens" and then attach a link to the relevant ammendments.
The second point of interest would be to give Staffers an avenue to voice their opinion on FA events. St George started off by converting one of the FA channels into a discussion channel, and that has become a place to discuss some of the more pressing FA issues we are facing right now. Going into this term, this channel would be kept for this purpose. Staffers can use the channel to discuss some of the news reported in the Ambassador Digest, or even raise suggestions to the leadership regarding new partners and embassies. The channel will serve as a platform for people to voice differing opinions, and provide new perspectives to issues that even the leadership has not considered before.
A third point of interest would be to engage the entire TNP community on Foreign Affairs. As mentioned in Gorundu's election campaign, we intend to offer updates akin to the Foreign Affairs Reports that are targetted at the wider community. Content of such a publication would be drawn from the wide range of news in our embassy regions, and from any points of discussion raised in our Discord Discussion Channel and/or Ambassador Digests. We will be looking into how we can shape this publication, and speak to our friends at the Ministry of Communications for ideas on the presentation of such a report.
Finally, to round off, as Minister, my target for this term would be to increase our engagements with other regions. I would be talking to fellow counterparts from other regions, and also working with my fellow ministers to see if we can have more cooperation, whether it is in hosting cultural events, having guest writers for publications, or cooperating on new WA proposals.
With all that done, let us have a great term ahead!
Yours,
Fregerson
