Class 55 No. 55009 Alycidon hauls the NYMR Afternoon Tea service

The day event had a unique character and a buzzing atmosphere from first-time visitors to railway enthusiasts.

Following its success, the railway is already looking into next year’s gala, but until then, they will be reminiscing for weeks to come.

“Behind the scenes, the event was made possible through months of preparation by NYMR’s dedicated staff, volunteers, and locomotive owners. From meticulous engine prep to top-tier customer service and seamless logistics, every detail was handled with care and professionalism. Despite a few locomotive issues along the way, the Diesel Team at Grosmont MPD, supported by visiting crews, rose to the challenge and ensured an exceptional visitor experience.”

Steam locomotive No. 13268 to travel by rail to The Greatest Gathering

Stanier 2-6-0 13268 on April 20, 2024

The Stanier Mogul Fund has sent over a small update on the work going on behind the scenes whilst the Severn Valley Railway has been blocked at Mor Brook.

The last few months have been spent completing the usual winter maintenance and replacing the hopper-type ashpan with a rake out type.

The fund says that the hopper one was problematic due to warping, which was caused by excess heat from the hot ash and this caused it to jam.

The locomotive has now been moved by road to Kidderminster and is set to work its first train on the 20th June, hauling the 10:00am from Kidderminster during the SVR Supporters Day, when no public service is running.

The Stanier Mogul Fund also say that it is planned that the locomotive will move by rail in late July to Derby to attend The Greatest Gathering.
