Ideale Sociatas

Society according to the ancient customs and practices of the Suavidici people.

Marcus Verus Chicagus

The root of Suavidici society is the Domus, the master of the Domus is the Pater Familias who should be heeded at all times. The Pater has in the past been the sole legal authority in his Domus, casting a vote for all family members and having the power to sell his children off into indefinite servitude.

The Authority of the Pater has changed over the millennia. What was once an all encompassing legal authority has diminished, while culturally children and especially women of the household are expected to vote as their father does, there is no longer the legal impetus to do so. The Pater no longer has the power of life and death over his Cliens.

Cliens are and have been a person under the patronage of the Pater or the Patronus and in the past these people were at the legal whims of the Pater (Pater and Patronus will be used interchangeably). Cliens are considered to be, Wives, Children, Servants/Slaves, and Tennents. Slaves were expected to be freed Bondage, however they would likely move to the category of Tennent. Latifundiums survived off of these arrangements, slaves and freemen would work side by side with the latter taking a portion of the day's work to sell or keep.

Children, and especially male children made up an odd section of this arrangement. The Pater was the head of both the Domus and Familias, meaning that sons who had their own families were still subject to their fathers will. This arrangement would continue until the fathers death and the naming of an heir. Normally the oldest son would assume the title of Pater, but in the Suavidici custom an heir had to be named.

Sons from the age of fourteen until the death of their mothers had, and still do have social superiority. If a son and mother get into a disagreement about the direction of the family, the son's decision shall be implemented.
The Domus is also represented in the Senate, the upper house is made up of the original families that landed on the shores of Auroria. Entry to the Senate is at the sole prerogative of the Imperator, or invitation by the body itself. The Pater Familias of each family shall be called to the Senate to cast the vote for his Domus and the State.
