NOT SO FAST, me hearties!
You thought this would be a regular list, didn't you? Well, like it or not, something's a bit different this time, but I think you'll like it. See, there is a tale to tell, and if you'll listen for a moment, you might even get a chance to sway how it ends...
The sky stretched crimson over the waters. The sound of a bell tolled in the distant harbor, accompanied only by the rushing of waves that gently rocked the ship on which the young pirate-captain stood. The taste of the Sea was fresh in the crisp air, and as she looked out to the direction her ship would soon sail, Captain @Nimarya felt her heart soar somewhere with the seagulls above. It was a feeling she still relished, to stand on the deck of her own ship, confident that she was backed with a loyal, competent crew to call her own. This vessel was a tried but true schooner, affectionately dubbed the Home Affairs, and now it was being readied for a new adventure.
“We’re ready, Captain!” Quartermaster @Bobberino informed her, coming to stand at her side.
“All provisions accounted for?” she asked, reaching into her pocket and pulling out a small, silver spyglass.
“Aye, and more than we’ll need most likely,” Bob replied, eyeing the trinket with some curiosity.
“Never say that, Mr. Bob,” Nimarya rebuked him sharply. “The Sea is not kind, and you’ll have us jinxed.”
She turned the spyglass over in her hands, tracing over its engraved markings with her calloused fingers. The silver seemed to shine in the fading light of the sunset.
“Captain, if I may-” Bobberino began, only to be abruptly interrupted.
“Captain!” First Mate @Arichia ran up to them, short on breath. “Captain, a messenger hawk from the Delegate."
“A message?” Nimarya exclaimed, snatching up the proffered letter from Arichia’s grasp and breaking the seal hastily. “Rather last minute, he’s lucky it got here in time.”
“What’s it say?” Bob asked eagerly, attempting to peer over Nimarya’s shoulders.
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” Nimarya scowled at him, raising the letter and whacking him over the head with it.
“Aye, fine then,” Bob snickered, not at all contrite, and sauntered away to go harass some poor crewmate- most likely @CD- betterThanFlash, the cabin boy, who had earned Bob’s ire earlier that week by staining his laundry pink.
Rolling her eyes, Nimarya unscrolled the message and began to read. Her countenance soon changed, her expression darkening like a thundercloud. At last, she abruptly pulled out a lighter, set the page on fire, and tossed it vehemently overboard.
Arichia, who had watched the entire thing, gawked first at the ocean where the mysterious letter had met its end, and then after the irate Captain, who had turned on her heels and was stalking off, muttering under her breath too quietly to be heard. Arichia scrambled after her.
“Wait, Captain! We are… well, we are departing tomorrow, correct?”
“Well, we were,” Nimarya huffed, pausing long enough for Arichia to catch up with her, and the two began to make their way towards the Captain’s quarters, deep in the ship. “Our dear Delegate @TlomzKrano has seen fit to shake up our plans.”
“Oh, how so?”
“We’re leaving now.”
“What?” Arichia squaked, nearly stopping short in surprise. Nimarya’s scowl deepened, and as they reached the Captain’s quarters she shoved the door open and pulled Arichia inside hastily, slamming it shut behind them.
“Not so loud,” she hissed. “But yes, we’re leaving tonight. As soon as darkness falls.”
“Captain, why?” Arichia asked, utterly baffled.
Nimarya strode over to her desk and pulled out a large, detailed map of The North Pacifc, laying it out on the table before them.
“You know the usual route and task of the Home Affairs. Our primary assignment is to send messages from the Delegate to all the corners of the region, recruiting more pirates to our ranks and sending them back to the capital. Well, this time around, we have a secondary task, one that is to remain a secret, Arichia. Do you understand?” Nimarya glanced at the First Mate from across the table, her eyes searching.
“Aye, Captain, this stays in this room,” the First Mate responded immediately, standing taller.
“Good. The rest of the crew will be informed of some of it, eventually- they’ll have to be. But we’re waiting until the ship is a good distance from the shore beforehand, and even then they won’t be told everything. Not yet.”
“What is it?”
“We’re going after a long lost treasure, one that used to belong to the Delegate’s office, in the times of old. And in order to find it… we’ll have to follow the path that can only be seen in starlight, through this spyglass.”
“The spyglass?”
Nimarya nodded, placing the device on the map before them. It looked like an ordinary, albeit expensive spyglass, and it did not seem very magical at all.
“You must be joking,” Arichia blurted.
“I wish I was.” Nimarya sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. “I knew Tlomz was particularly invested in this voyage, and that he was likely going to instruct me to do something with this spyglass he had given me… but I did not anticipate this.”
“If the path can only be seen at night… that’s why we’re starting out now.”
“Aye, and next time we’re in port, remind me to inform Delegate Tlomz that a Captain could use a bit more warning if they’re going to be given an epic quest.”
“Hm… I hope we don’t encounter any sea-serpents,” Arichia mused.
Nimarya stared.
“Why in the name of Davy Jones's Locker would you say that?!?” she exclaimed, looking somehow even more stressed than before.
“Well, in epic pirate adventures, there is almost always an encounter with a sea-serpent,” Arichia informed her solemnly.
“Between you and Bob flirting with the Fates, this is going to be the most ill-fated expedition,” Nimarya said glumly, shoulders slouched in resignation.
Perhaps Arichia would have said something more, but a harsh knocking on the cabin door prevented that.
“Captain!” the voice of Third Mate @Cretox State could be heard. “Bob needs ya on deck! There’s trouble brewing.”
“We haven’t even left yet…” Nimarya whispered sadly. Arichia patted her shoulder consolingly.
Regardless, the two of them rushed outside, following Cretox to the ship’s deck where they found the rest of the crew assembled.
“What’s the matter here?” Nimarya shouted, striding to stand next to Bob, who was looking out over the ship’s port side railing towards the sea.
“A ship approaches,” Bob answered, pointing. “And I don’t like the looks of ‘em.”
Raising her spyglass, Nimarya looked and saw a large ship with no discernable flags bearing down on them at an impressively high speed- and they did not seem to be slowing down.
“Whose ship is that?” the ship’s cook, @BMWSurfer, asked, squinting out across the water.
“I don’t know. They’re flying no colors,” she replied, mind racing.
“What are we doing, Captain?” Bob asked, his hand drifting towards the hilt of his sword, eyes never straying from the approaching vessel.
“We’re ready, Captain!” Quartermaster @Bobberino informed her, coming to stand at her side.

The NPA is The North Pacific's military force, and it is currently the largest military in the game created regions (GCRs) and one of the largest in all of NationStates (NS). The NPA participates in both raiding and defense operations, and so we are involved in a wide variety of missions including: tags, detags, refoundings, liberations, hold missions, support missions, and much more. The NPA holds training exercises and formal operations on a regular basis, and on top of that, the NPA has the ability to field more than 20 troops at most updates. This makes the NPA one of the most active and experienced military forces in all of NationStates.[/spoiler]

I want to invite you to become part of this elite military organization and represent TNP at home and abroad by joining the North Pacific Army. The only requirement for joining the North Pacific Army is that you have a World Assembly nation in The North Pacific. Upon joining, we will assign you a military rank, and you will start training with the most experienced commanders and most friendly troops in all of NationStates. The NPA has two active branches to accommodate everybody's needs with a Special Forces corp for players that are online and active during update times and an Auxiliary Force for less active players who can still serve as backup troops.[/spoiler]
