Of the Elder Gods and the First World

Once there was another world, another sun, and another moon. The stars in the sky were different, and the winds that blew were not the same winds we know. This was Prim, the first world, and it was the home of the Elder Gods.

The elder gods ruled over Prim and its inhabitants, great monstrosities and demons, shades and goblins. For Prim was a world of darkness, of sulfur and ash, of stagnant oceans filled with ooze, of volcanoes spewing forth brimstone and fire. And the gods went across the face of the world, making and unmaking at their whim. For they were absolute in their rule, and their malice and cruelty were without bound. To them the world of Prim, and the inhabitants there, were nothing but playthings for their dark will.

Chief of the gods were Zgovednal the Discordant, and his mate Bezvoldwa the Chaotic. They were the mightiest of all the gods of the first world, and their very presence was enough to send mountains crashing to dust and to boil the oceans away. They were monstrous in form and terrible in authority. All other gods paid homage to them. And they had two children, Poszarwa the Burning Flame and Iodzwa the Freezing Cold, who were the living embodiments of the extremes of Prim.

And there was also Nedzgrubal the Shadow, the schemer and the destroyer, and he was the brother of Zgovednal, and he coveted his brothers position. And he would often wage war against the other elder gods, or he would set in motion schemes that would pit the other gods against each other.

And then there were the great horseman of the gods, the four winds who acted as messengers and enforcers to the gods. Estglodvja the East Wind, Sudzarazja the South Wind, Walstpodboszja the West Wind, and Nordrazbja the North Wind. And they rode great steeds, and brought war and famine and pestilence and death to Prim.

And it was from Nordrazbja the North Wind that the doom of the elder gods and the destruction of Prim would come. For Bezvoldwa the Chaotic lusted after him. She entangled him in her web of seduction and made him her lover, and from their dalliance came Dzaikozja the Mad Wind.

When Bezvoldwa gave birth to her bastard child, Zgovednal flew into a rage and commanded Nordrazbja to bring forth his steed and slaughter him as an offering of penance. Nordrazbja did as he was bid, slaying his steed, and then Zgovednal cast him out into the outer darkness of Pan, beyond the walls of Prim. And he sent Dzaikozja with him against the protestations of Bezvoldwa.

And in the outer darkness of Pan they lived, Nordrazbja raising the child. And here Dzaikozja prospered and grew, devouring the spirits of the outer realms, becoming stronger and more ravenous. And he became like his father, a great and terrible wind that ravaged the reaches of Pan. Soon he was more terrible and more ravenous than his father could handle. He grew so powerful, and so hungry, that he devoured the moon. And then he devoured the sun. And finally he came forth to the walls of Prim and began to devour the first world.

And all the gods gathered together to fight Dzaikozja, and there was a great and terrible battle and Dzaikozja devoured many of the gods including his mother Bezvoldwa. But a couple escaped and hid in fear as Dzaikozja continued to devour Prim. Zgovednal, who had escaped the defeat of the gods gathered together the east, west, and south winds, and escaping into Pan sought out Nordrazbja in a last effort to stop the Mad Wind.

Zgovednal brought forth a new steed for the North Wind and offered it as an offering of peace. Nordrazbja, accepted the offer and together the four winds and the mightiest of the elder gods made a final charge to defeat Dzaikozja and save Prim. But Dzaikozja had devoured so much, and grown in immensity, that even as the final charge came against him he was devouring the last remnants of Prim. In the last moments of the first world Zgovednal met Dzaikozja in final battle and they slew each other. And the four winds also perished.

But not all of Prim’s inhabitants died. For the final charge gave enough time for many shades and demons and monstrosities to cling to the ruins of Prim as it crumbled with the last throes of Dzaikozja. And also the steeds of the four winds survived though their masters perished. All the gods also perished except three. Poszarwa and her sister Iodzwa clung to each other as they were flung forth into the darkness of Pan upon a shard of Prim. And also Nedzgrubal escaped the doom, having earlier fled the last battle upon a great winged beast constructed from ash and flame.
